The best traing program Ive taken is by Ryan Deiss' Digital Marketer company. Just goto his website digitalmarketer.com and im sure youll find it.
Ben adkins has an email marketing program which taught me a lot about writing emails, frequency, and sequencing.
Anik Singal has a program called Inbox Blueprint i hear is good.
If you dont want to buy anything, i would simply subscribe to as many email lists as possible, especially in selfimprovement/bizopp types of niches, and see how people mail and monetize.
If you want to do CPA with email this is a great program

it is run by Ricco Davis, who focuses on content rich email (like mini advertorials and cpa offers), i.e. no Bulk Email
there is a lot of emphasis on building the right infrastructure for mailing millions of emails without being a spammer
if you want to sell products (especially at increasingly high prices) then Ryan Deiss "Machine" (that is more appropriate if you want to sell your own products though)
I know Ryan Deiss and Digital Marketer base about 99% of their stuff on the work of Andre Chaperon, and his product AutoResponder Madness (the course even has a video of Ryan directly saying this).
I actually just purchased access to it last weekend, and it has blown my mind, and made me re-work the way a lot of my businesses function. Expensive, but worth every penny in my opinion.
There are a number of great videos on YT with him that can give you some of the basics of how he does things - (providing value, storytelling, open loops, etc.).
I'm implementing the strategies now in a client's business that gets around 1k opt-ins per day, so we'll see how it effects the revenue on the backend.
Autoresponder Madness by Andre Chaperon is worth checking out.
Ben Settle also knows his stuff when it comes to email although he has a slightly different approach to it than Andre.
