8+ Stupid Mobile Mistakes That You Can Easily Avoid - An Italian Tale

Hello amazing people,

If you are interested, i've introduced myself in this thread >> Finally here I am: Filippo, 18 years old, AM from Italy - That's My Young Story

The goal of this thread, beyond my personal success, is to give something value back to this awesome forum rather than just money, really.

1# Before starting in affiliate marketing i studied a lot. But then i realized that i will never reach 100% knowledge so i started with my first campagin. If i would have done that earlier i would have been some steps ahead right now in this industry.

1) First Campaign
2# OMG i feel ashamed about this, i tried to run an Antivirus CPI with Display . (Today i know that "virus detected" landers in PPV works just a bit better )

Geo: IT
Offer: 360 Security
Cost: $80.82
Conversions: 1
Revenue: $0.38
Profit: -$80.44
Creatives: http://prntscr.com/aw6dxo, http://prntscr.com/aw6ejv

2) Second Campaign
3# Listening to the Charles Ngo video The Top 5 Mistakes Newbies Make in Affiliate Marketing i learned that on of the biggest mistake that newbie make is that they pause campaigns too early, but as much as i was able to bring very cheap clicks to the offer and blacklisting bad placements the campaign was still very far for profitability, the converting placements were 3-4 with hell low volume.
Most of the revenue comes from the White-List campaign that was bringing just 1$-2$ profits a day, what do you think i should have done?

Geo: IT
Offer: Swift Wi-Fi
Cost: $155.37
Conversions: 59
Revenue: $19.13
Profit: -$136.24
Creatives: http://prntscr.com/aw7a2p

3) Teespring Experience
Took a course on udemy about Facebook Ads and start with teespring, i had make money selling teeshirts before and Facebook is the best traffic source, what could go wrong?

I learned that Facebook is the best traffic source but even the most diffcult to master, there are hunderds of variabels and because it is not built for affiliate marketers i moved back and keep my focus to learn something more before working with king Facebook.
4# Don't get shiny objects syndrome, everything needs time to master. Easy money on the internet dosen't exist, or everybody would earn them.

Geo: Europe
T-Shirts: Illuminati Are Baked, Programmer, Reggae Shark, The Big Bong Theory
Cost: $289.32
Conversions: 8
Revenue: $35
Profit: -$254.32

4) Back on GO2MOBI with Native
I learned that CPI don't work very well in EU and that banners are dying and the future is Native. Highly motivaed i worked hard to apply those new things i've learned.
5# I applied in LeadPages and wrote a landing page that i was split-testing with direct linking using Voluum. For my small experience i assumed that with App Installs, that are impulsive actions, is better to direct link to the app/play store. I've attached the copy of the english landing page to this thread if you want to take a look

Geo: ID
Offer: WiFi Master Key
Cost: $223.00
Conversions: 282
Revenue: $58.03
Profit: -$164.98
Creatives: http://prntscr.com/aw7xbr, http://prntscr.com/aw7xod

P.S. This was my first profitable campaign, but to work with the profitable placements with my eCPM i was getting hell low volume. Once i started to raise the bidding the offer was not yet profitable and i quit it.
6# Listen to the big guys when they suggest to work with high volume offers, you don't want to invest hunderds of dollars a campaign that brings you just 3$ a day.

5) Working with Pin Submits
Talking with my AM in the traffic soruce i learned that CPI are hard on GO2MOBI, now Pin Submit are the best vertical, because the placements that have a fairly low CPC are very few and there isn't a lot of volume on those ones. I wrote an email to Benjamin Yong, he replies OMG (If you are kind and very short super affiliates respond!!!)

He told me: "Well I do not advise running app install campaign on Go2Mobi. I know guys are doing good on Social traffic, try that". So i listened and to keep my focus with GO2MOBI because i was understanding well how to optimize it.

Geo: IT
Offer: WhatsApp Emoji
Cost: $43.12
Conversions: 0
Revenue: $0.00
Profit: -$43.12
Creatives: http://prntscr.com/aw8195
7# I stopped that early because i tought that it was not converting because some italian carriers have blocked pin submit subscription cause to law issues, i was wrong. Since pin submit have higher payout they need higher budget to test.

GEO: Portugal
Offer: Win GoPro
Cost: $82.63
Conversions: 0
Revenue: $0.00
Profit: -$82.63
Creatives: http://prntscr.com/aw875x
Clicks: 531
Comment: Talking with my AM he told me that 0 convresion after 531 clicks for a top performing offer like that are not normal and he suggested me to talk with my AM in GO2MOBI, so i stop the offer and waited for a response from the Traffic Source but i didn't recieve any illuminating answers. I was direct linking on it, maybe it is the wrong approach?
After that i promised myself that i would send a loot of clicks to the next offer until i get a conversion.

GEO: Portugal
Offer: IQ Test
Cost: $56.52
Conversions: 0
Revenue: $0.00
Profit: -$56.52
Creatives: http://prntscr.com/aw8bce
Clicks: 774
Comment: My AM told me that the advertiser told him that i have managed everything correctly in that campaign, i was excited, but still get 0 conversion. Reached 700+ clicks and my AM suggested me to change traffic source because if i was getting 0 conversion with 700+ clicks he don't see any reasons why i should get them in the next 700...

The vertical is right, the traffic is right, the banner are congruent with the offer, people are making money, what the hell am i doing wrong? Some genius out there can explain it to me?
After that i promised myself that i would send a loot of clicks to the next offer until i get a conversion to give GO2MOBI one last chance.

GEO: Portugal
Offer: Win Supermarket Voucher
Cost: $86.93
Conversions: 0
Revenue: $0.00
Profit: -$86.93
Creatives: http://prntscr.com/aw8joo (just native because i've seen that they work far better)
Clicks: 1,894
Comment: My AM teached me that:
"affiliaXe: every time you get to 1K clicks with no conversion you should check 2 things:
1. with your AM (me) if the offer is active?
2. with your traffic source, as much info regarding the target of your traffic and how can you control it to be promoting in the most relevant sources of traffic
There are always exceptions in this industry so there are more variables to consider like traffic cost / offer payout... and more"

8# When someone with a lot more experience than you says something in your best interest LISTEN instantly. Period.

6) Conclusion from my experience and next moves
Maybe pin-sumbit in 2016 cant work with direct? I read this article in the blog of Charles Ngo and it says that pin-submit convert even with direct, so i tought let's test them with direct and when i build the a convreting campaign let's boost the results with a LP, does it makes sense?

Now i'm going to work with InMobi, but i think that i will not get a lot different results if i don't change something, let me know if you have some ideas, i will be grateful for life to you.

I really hope that this thread will help some newbies out there save some money and make better choices,

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading this one,

P.S. Sorry for my bad english

Ciao Filippo!

You have a good attitude keeping positive, a lot of people would of felt sorry for themselves at this stage!

If I were you would head back to Wifi Master Key. Indonesia has 250ish million people there is definitely money to be made. The traffic is also super cheap which makes it easy to learn.

You may be limited for traffic on Go2mobi Native with the targeting that works for you. But after browsing around on Adplexity I saw that most traffic for Wifi Master Key in Indonesia come from these traffic sources:

  1. PropellerAds
  2. PopCash
  3. AdCash
  4. PopAds
  5. Avazu DSP

That would be a good place to start if you were looking to scale

04-24-2016 04:09 PM #5 filippoteodoro (Member)

OMG Mr Green, are you the real one? Really? OMG
I'm the happiest affiliate on earth.
The STM membership is the best thing i could buy do right now.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for that answer.
Obviously i will follow your advice and work with WiFi Master Key, thank you again.
I can't afford spy tools right now because they are too exepensive, the informations you gave me are pure gold for me at this stage!

I read your story, and if you have done that after the Allan thing i will do that too, i promise.
Quitting is not an option, i will keep going despite everything because it's worth it, god if it's worth it.

P.S. I look forward seeing you in Milan, i hope that we could exchange greetings

04-24-2016 04:28 PM #6 Mr Green (Administrator)

Haha you have one month till Milan, I want to hear your success story in person!

04-24-2016 05:13 PM #7 kepe95 (Moderator)

Haha very nice , you've got the right attitude , sharing what you've learnt even though you have not had your big success story yet. But with this attitude it won't be long until you'll hit success

Maybe pin-sumbit in 2016 cant work with direct?
You definitely want to use a landing page for pin submits , you can find good ones in AdPlexity , just search for the GEO + running longest , and choose what you see the most at the top. You'll also have to go aggressive with PIN submits.

Once you have a good lander the real trick is finding some unique angle , a less well known traffic source , a hot offer that just came out , or some other edge = good profits.

Good luck!

Here is my advice - if you get approved to zeropark, they will give you a month of using Voluum for free)

04-25-2016 08:10 AM #9 filippoteodoro (Member)

Yeah thank you felyx but i already use Voluum

This is a TIP that i share:
9# When you start don't subscribe to Voluum alone, build a team and subscribe to it together

Since voluum cares about the number of clicks,
you can bought a voluum account together with your team-mates to split costs.

The only thing you should care about is that you have to create different traffic source for each person because each account in the traffic source needs different postbacks.
So we have like:

- GO2MOBI Filippo
- GO2MOBI Francesco
- GO2MOBI Matteo
etc...

Hope that helps some newbies with low budget

04-25-2016 09:17 AM #10 guyver888 (AMC Alumnus)

You have the right attitude and some really good tips here for newbies.

However I will advise against sharing costs for Voluum. Once you exceed the usage costs then it be difficult to assign costs fairly. The costs can reach really high when doing volume and with several users this will be even faster. Some of you with be running more traffic than others....

I guess for newbies volume is not a big problem at start however you will be surprised how quick the usage costs add up.

04-25-2016 09:24 AM #11 filippoteodoro (Member)

Yeah guyver888 i totally agree with you,
for the first months sharing Voluum subscription cost can be a great solution,
but, of course, when you deal with massive voluume you'd better get your own personal account.
in fact my tip was just for newbies.

Thanks for the answer,
P.S. I really hope that the usage cost will add up quickly for me, this would mean that i've finally reached my goal

I think I met you at AWA?

You've got the right attitude man. Keep working for it.

A spy tool or manual spying is a very important investment. I'd recommend that. Direct linking is going to be difficult for PIN Submits most of the time.
Direct linking works well on FB though, but it's a very different traffic source.

Don't forget to do your research and split test offers, landings before pausing campaigns. I'm not sure but I think you were testing only 1 offer per campaign?

Awesome story Filippo!

You learned a lot of valuable lessons and draw good conclusions on them very early on. I am fully convinced you are destined for success in the affiliate marketing space. Looking forward to seeing many more updates from you with green numbers.

Cheers to your success

Hello Servando,

You didn't met me at AWA but i wrote to you on Skype and you were one of the awesome affiliate who reply when someone asks for help,
thank you again for that, that's extremly valuable at my stage

Back to your reply: so you recommend a spy tool, i'm going to subscribe to Adplexity i think, i was trying to cut costs but i think that it is the wrong approach.

Yes i was running just one offer per campaign, that's a mistake right?
So you suggest to pick some similar offer, build some similar landers, and split test them with Voluum all in one campaign, i understood,
it looks like a lot of work, i'm very excited about starting with that approach.

Thank you again man,

I'm confused too about testing many offers per campaign. Can you explain what do you mean?

Dear Filippo,

I would like to recommend you some browser extension that could help you to do some manual spying. Btw, it's total free (http://www.ghacks.net/2014/02/14/ran...ation-firefox/).

Some times it works with pin submit offers , you just need to set the the right IP address for specific carrier that acceptable for your offer (like 87.103.34.24 for Vodafone PL). The main problem with this extension that Exoclick can detect this extension and prevent you from seeing many ad formats on their inventory sites (and there are many of them ). So if you want to try to work with this extension try to install it on separate browser.

Best,
LawyerD
