FB is cutting down on clickbait ads.

Anyways, how would they measure those things? Time you have been away or can they measure the actual time on the link after the ad?

Because, if you would redirect immediately from the safe page, the time spend over there would not be too much . But i am not sure they can measure this?

Ideas anyone?

so, if it's a quick opt in / splash you're going to be deferred?

wtf.

This only affects the actual newsfeed, not ads at the moment.

Technically speaking, it's easy to implement. Google has been doing it with search.

I imagine they could monitor the time without using the pixel; elapsed from when you click an ad to the next `window.focus` (or equivalent event, in the case of a mobile app) of a Facebook page

Exactly. An obvious measure for sure - I suspect it hasn't be used sooner because no site really wants a user to 'leave'.

Facebook apparently now seeing the bigger picture.

Yes, they can measure that pretty easily..

1. On mobile, links open in their frame/browser - so its pretty easy to measure that
2. They can measure time indirectly by measure time when user comes back to browsing news feed or doing some other actions on FB

In that case using a flog article/farticle would be fine.

This is why long copy in your ads is so important.

Huh? This is about what happens after you CLICK the ad. I don't see why having long copy will help people to stay longer on the page after.
