First campaign after joined STM! Sweepstake & Mobile Pop

Hey everybody! Just joined STM last month, done lots of reading and man this forum is the best!

So after much reading I've decided to launch my first campaign on PopAds with Mobile only traffic to 'win iphone 6' offer targeting MY.

Offers: iPhone 6s Giveaway
Payout: $2.05
Network: Prefer not to tell
Overall Conversion Rate within network: 15%
EPC: 0.23

Day -3 to day 1 progress:
1. Ripped, tweaked and translated 6 interesting landers
2. Hosted these landers on my VPS
3. Done checking load speed and satisfied with them
4. Mapped out the bid landscape for my targeting and found my low, mid and high bid (had one conversion while mapping out the landscape with LP4)
5. Create Campaigns in Adsbridge for tracking
6. Load funds into PopAds, created 3 campaigns in PopAds with low, mid, high bid and group them together so receive unique visit across 3 campaigns, each group has daily budget of $10
5. Started the campaign.

Here's the Landers: (all in Malay Language)
LP1 - Quiz, iPhone 7 Test Group with Apple site theme, white background, entry and exit pop
LP2 - Quiz, iPhone 7 Test Group with Apple site theme, grey background, entry pop and exit pop
LP3 - Quiz, similar to LP1 but images and wording are different, entry pop and sound
LP4 - Quick, reward for loyal <isp> customers, facebook theme, entry pop and facebook comment
LP5 - Spin and win game, black background, entry pop
LP5 - Spin and win game, facebook theme, entry pop and facebook comment

Targeting:
MY, All categories except Adult, All Languages, Android & iOS only, Smartphone & Tablet only, All Connections, Blacklist 3 placements yield from mapping the landscape (2x payouts)

First day result:
1. Camp High:

2. Camp Mid:

2. Camp Low:

Lander CTR: (according to AdsBridge)
LP1: 266 clicks out of 1325 visits - 20%
LP2: 22 clicks out of 1331 visits - 1.65%
LP3: Decided to cut it before launch due to some errors that can't solve
LP4: 244 clicks out of 1324 visits - 18.42%
LP5: 42 clicks out of 1329 visits - 3.16%
LP6: 81 clicks out of 1328 visits - 6.09%

Thoughts on landers:

Action plan:

Day 2 progress:
1. Created English version of LP1, LP4, LP5 & LP and divert English Language traffic to them
2. Excluded Tablet Traffic, include only Malaysian, Indonesian, English Language in PopAds Targeting
3. Removed all <isp> from lander and use <os> instead.
4. AdsBridge haven't reply on visits & cost difference.

Day 2 result:

1. Camp High:

2. Camp Mid:

2. Camp Low:

Lander CTR: (according to AdsBridge)
(Malay Language Version)
LP1: 54 clicks out of 169 visits - 31.95%

Thoughts on landers:

Action plan:

Questions:
  1. In term of optimizing, what should I look into and what is the order of them? Blacklist placement? Find same/similar offers from other networks? Landing page?
  2. It seems Low Bid camp will provide me positive ROI soon, should I kill High & Mid camp or keep them running?
  3. Any suggestions on how can I improve my campaigns? Not aiming to have positive ROI but aiming to learn everything that can help me launch a good campaign.

Thanks for reading, please help me on my first campaign as I learn to become better each and every day. Thanks!

Hello, first of all, welcome to the forum

I see you really mean it serious with your AM activities, good job.

Now lets take a look at what you did here and let me give you some suggestions.

1. The discrepancy between what popads charges you for and what you see in Adsbridge - it will always be like that with every ad network, part of the hits is lost from legitimate reasons - people close the tabs, hit backbutton, there might be some technical reasons so the connection times out etc ... the rest is bots, raw VS unique hits, adnetworks playing tricks etc ... there is nothing you can do about it so factor it into your cost. Make sure your LPs load fast enough, looks like your loss is about 25% and thats pretty big. I usually see a loss of about 15% on average.

2. I know its tempting to cut LPs based on CTR, but its not the best idea - at least not usually. There are cases when you can do it, when the CTR is so awful that it simply cant work - for example your AM told you the EPC for this offer is 23 cents. So if the LP CTR is so low that every click to the offer will cost you lets say 10 cents, well thats fucked since it will never convert like 1:2. In other cases, you need to get conversions to be able to optimize anything.

3. Low/Mid/High bids - in theory, the highest bids should bring the best quality traffic for sure. The surprising truth is, many people from those that I talk to, report the best results with low bids when it comes to pop traffic - especially with poads and adcash. I have no explanation for that, it will probably something to do with their algos and the publishers. Or the spots with higher bids are targeted by botters more - hard to say. This leads to point 4 below ...

4. BOTS. Did you run any bot checks? The situation with bots really got out of hand lately. Ad networks dont care much and happily sell them, so we have to fight back, detect them and block those placements. This should be your number one priority now, bots are most likely responsible for the low amount of conversions in your testing campaigns. You really need to get rid of those, otherwise you wont be able to optimize anything.

5. Not sure how many offers you tested already, but you definitely should test more. But focus on the bots first.

Start with this : http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...detect+traffic

Good luck!

Just to add on to what matuloo said, check for bots (blacklist placement) and test more offers. pick 2 or 3 proven landers (commonly used landers) and run them with multiple offers. no point testing landers/angles if the offer is not going to work.
Personally i would not test bids at such early stage. stick to the low bid campaign and test more offers first.

all the best!

Hey matuloo & John,

Thanks for the suggestion, what I'll do next:

1. Test for bots and blacklist placement
2. Find more offers and split-test them (doing this currently before reading the awesome replies)
3. Pause Mid & High bid camp and test only with low camp
4. Optimize LP for speed again.

This place is awesome!
