Landing Pages. What's the purpose?

Hi guys!

A couple of dumb question here, please bear with me if I sound too stupid.

Most offers give you a link that you can use to send a lead to the advertisers website where conversions happen.

I see that tons people create landing pages for the offers they are promoting.

Here are the questions:

1. Do these landing page have links to the advertisers pages? If yes, what is the point to add an extra step between the click and the conversion?
2. Do conversions happen on landing pages? I.e. Is it possible to convert a lead on the landing page without sending him/her to the advertisers site?

I'm still a rookie and trying to learn, so criticize me a lot. Thanks!

Hello,

these are the very basics that you need to understand in order to move further with AM. So let me help you sort this part out

So first of all, LEAD is actually the result of a conversion. When you make the visitor actually do the desired action, you converted him/her into a Lead. So for example : Single Opt In - when a visitor enters the email address into a collection box, bang thats a single optin lead.

Not most, but ALL offers will provide you with links to send TRAFFIC (not leads) to the advertisers website where they can convert into leads

Landing pages, or bridge pages, are used to pre-sell something. A good example from real life would be a car dealership. You dont just walk in there and buy a car straight away. You talk with some dealer who tries to sell you the most expensive variation of a car with features that you dont even need. And thats exactly the role of a Landing Page You use it to get the visitors more interested, make them believe they have a problem you can fix for them etc...

Conversions don't usually happen on landing page, tho in some cases people have email collection boxes on LPs, so in such cases the conversion might actually happen on a LP. But usually its not the role of a LP.

To be able to transfer the visitor from a landing page to the advertisers page, there is obviously a link on the LP too. For tracking purposes, you should use a tracking solution like funnelflux, Thrive, Voluum etc ... These transfer IDs for every click from the traffic source, through the LP ... all the way to the offer page. With the use of a "postback url or tracking pixel", the affiliate network will let your tracker "know" what click actually converted, which is absolutely crucial info for the optimization process.

I hope its more clear now, I suggest reading the newbie tutorials on the forum to get a deep understanding about these basic of the AM

Welcome to the forum again

Matuloo, thank you for taking your time to post a detailed response. You were able to help me better understand a couple of concepts such as Landing Page and and tacking solutions. However, do you mind sharing a couple of examples of good landing pages? Although I understand how they work, I want to see them in action. thanks!

Click on any ad on your phone or desktop.

This exactly, its the best to click on a real ad and watch it in real time. The best would be to go to an adult site and click a dating ad, all of them (95%) lead to landing pages

Another reason to add a landing page is to sell a different angle. Imagine an app install for example, you could send them directly to the advertiser's page with a generic "Hey, download this browser" message, or you could create a custom banner and landing page that talks about a specific part of it that you think your audience would care about, like how it can download videos or something.
