Questions before my first campaign

Hello again everybody,

I moved some steps from my last post.

My ideas are a little bit more clear and I feel almost ready to start with my first campaign (mobile display - The Appetizer):

I have a Go2Mobi account, a couple of Affiliate networks (f5 and addiliate) and I also selected an offer that seems good for what I want to do (android app CPA - payout 0.15$ - 35 countries to chose from).

I'm studying product reviews, bulding my angles and designing my banners. I have a very broad idea of the target I want to hit (young 15-25, male ,android framework) but I still feel I need more info from you guys:

- First of all I need help in country selection; is there a way (for example with google trends or similar) to determine where this app is going to be liked most?
- Is there a way to discover which penetration one app has on the android market?

once selected the country I would like to see how others are proposing the same app.

- Is appropriate - at this stage of my experience - to go into spying tools? Is there a good spying tool on mobile? which one you think you can advice?
- Is necessary to use a tracking tool (like Voluum for example) or for my basic needs go2mobi tracking would be enough? Does it give differential conversion rates for each creative and placement?
- How can I discover which days / time of the week better works (by testing only)?

thanks a lot again
Lorenzo

May I ask you why you say this?
Questions I asked are about structure and campaign set-up...

Hello,

what johnaff had in mind was that sometimes its the best to take action, get a feel of the process and then come back with specific questions. Running a campaign for real for a short while, will give you a better understanding than reading about it for days. You will find out some things are not so important as they looked when you was studying, while there will be new issues popping out of the blue.

But anyways, lets take a look at the questions you had.

- app install offer, $0.15 payout - appinstalls are very hard to run now, you will most likely not gonna make this work. But whatever, its as good as any other to learn the basics, so if you want to try this one ... go ahead
- these multi-geo apps are usually suitable for a large selection of GEOs. There are some obvious checks you can do to decide what geos will work better. Figure out whether the app is translated into more languages, in some GEOs english is not a problem, in some it will be. I guess its some general utility app, so nothing GEO specific either. You will need to test a few GEOs to see if some work better than others - and you can also ask the AM, they should know what GEOs are working better than the others.
- penetration of a market : there is the amount of installs showed in google play market, thats the number you are looking for. The more installs, the more saturated the app is already. Dont think they show it on a per-GEO level tho.

- spy tools : I would definitely recommend to test some spy tools, at least for a month as they are usually pretty expensive - and download all you can - banners, LPs... studdy them and store them for later use. I use adplexity and find it pretty good for example.
- you can go with go2mobi tracking for now, but I always recommend to use a tracking tool to everyone, you will have to start using it at some point anyways, so why not right from the beginning.
- as for day/week parting - the goal is to have campaigns running 24/7 IMO. If you want to hunt for profitable hours, you will have to do it by testing, there is no other way.

Good luck

thanks a lot for the detailed answer mate.
It took a little bit long to answer back 'cause I was away for work.

I'll start my app-install campaign anyway, just to have a feeling of the end to end process and to start dealing with the metrics. since you say app installs are very hard right now, which vertical would be better in your opinion for my second campaign?

I'm also giving a try with funnel flux to explore tracking as well and I'm focusing on banner creation

I'll keep you all up to date, thanks a lot

Because success is correlated with action.

Self-doubt and second guessing is correlated with failure.

Hi sharkeuino!

As others have already said before, the best way of getting experience and information is to test!

Answering your questions:

- Geoedge and Adplexity are quite good spying tools to work with.

- As was pointed already, the best way of knowing where the offers are having a better performance is to contact your AM.

- AppAnnie can give you some useful info about the App behaviour.

- As for tracking tools, depending on how detailed go2mobi is, you can keep it but I also advise you to use some dynamic trackings to help you on the optimization process (for example, to track the performance of websites, banners or any other thing that the platform itself cannot provide)

- And yes, only by testing are you able to know what the best hours are for you to perform a day parting.

Concerning GEOS: for the first campaigns - and for you to gain experience - I advise you to try a country with a low payout and a high traffic volume, so you’ll get a lot of valuable data in a short period of time from where you can start optimizing your campaigns.

You should also try a country where the competition is not too fierce! As for the vertical of your next campaign, I suggest you try adult. One of the best adnetworks to buy traffic from is Exoclick since it provides you a nice platform and very detailed statistics that allow you to efficiently optimize your campaigns. Moreover, Exoclick allows you to use SmartCPM, where what you pay is not what you’re bidding, but 10% more of what the person below you is bidding. With SmartCPM, you avoid spending more money than you have to.

Here’s my suggestion – segments which have high traffic and where the competition is not very strong:

- Peru + Movistar + Android

- Honduras+Claro+Android

- South Africa + MTN + Android

A nice spot to start is the 300x100, since it has a high volume. This spot allows you to gather data more rapidly, thus becoming able to better optimize your campaigns.

Let us know about the results you get on your first and future campaigns!

If you want any other tips or advice, feel free to PM me.

Cheers!
