Opt-in Forms On Landing Pages

Hi,

I am quite new to email marketing, but have some good ideas for follow up emails. The majority of my traffic goes to advertorial type landing pages that are designed to get the user reading the presell, then clicking through to buy the product. Although I make sales..People leave my website and never come back ( a lot don't buy). I have seen some people have an opt in form with a little questionnaire, followed by an email submit box, where it is 1 click to submit, and doesn't send the user away from the page. Has anyone had success with this? I.e where the right sidebar would be, on the right of the presell text, a quick "do you suffer from "problem related to niche" they tick the box, enter the email, and then they continue reading the blog. (no opt in confirmation or taking them off my page, the form box just says thanks)

I am curious if it's a good idea to take their attention span away from the main text body for 10-20 seconds whilst they submit their email, with a 1 click opt in. I just feel that so many leave the site that I could potentially sell too later.. but worry if I have an opt in with the presell, it may distract the users flow and effect sales.

Anyone with email experience let me know!

thanks

Hello,
I think the second idea of having a questionnaire will work better because the people reading those questions will relate to them and answer them and they will be more willing to share their email ids in order to read the blog which might benefit them.

I'm just curious what you guys find the best approach to grab emails when you have direct sales landing pages.. stuff like advertorials/short to-the-point pages. I obviously don't want to wreck my conversions.. but at the same time, it seems a waste to drive traffic to pages and never get anyones email somehow. Just need the best mix.

The thing is, you will have an awful optin rate if you dont push the signup form aggressively - so for example with an overlay ad or a small pop window. If you do that, the optin rate will go up a lot but it will interfere with you original sales funnel and the CVR will go down for sure. Some people will simply think that was the action to do there and will not look further.

The best way to start experimenting with email capture and not wrecking your sales as you said, would be to target people who are leaving your sales page anyways. So focus on people who are leaving without clicking on any CTA - exit alert, exit pop, people hitting the X button.
