How to learn to build landing pages?

I suck big time when it comes to building landing pages. I have a very basic HTML knowledge and that's it. I always rely on wordpress and its lame free themes which aren't always suit to the purpose of what I want to achieve with a particular landing page. Do you have any suggestions ? Any tool that might help or maybe I should learn some coding (I have no idea where to start)?

Thanks!

(Sorry about my weak English...)

Go to the bookstore and pick up some books on design, torrent photoshop and dreamweaver, steal people's landing pages and look at the code, keep what you like and get a feel for how it's done. That's how I learned.

I think a intermediate knowledge of HTML and CSS is mandatory if you work full-time online so I recommend learning them. I agree with groomez, grab photoshop and dreamweaver if you prefer (Check out Notepad++ as a alternative if you wish) and look at other peoples work for inspiration. A great resource I used when learning was Nettuts which has great tutorials on HTML and CSS and full guides on building a websites from the ground up which I suggest you complete even if you have no use for the final product (For example - http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/si...-html-and-css/ - List of full site builds here). Good Luck!

I use this alot http://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/

can make the whole process quick and fast...

you still should take the time to learn some html and php and js

but that program can help you get up and running quick....

If your not interested in learning to code then polar's suggestion and some of the other ones above are the way to go. Also check out the posts below about how to rip & edit your landing pages.

I want to 2nd diplex.

Some of the WORST advice I EVER got was from someone 'at the time' very established in IM AND successful too'

He told me " Oh, you dont need to learn any code all the big people I know dont know it, they know other stuff thats more important [which he never said either]"

Fast forward 3yrs later [3 YRS IS LIKE 300 IN IM TIME] and I can tell you that the biggest hurdle I have is NOT being able to jump into MY OWN mysql, .html, .php, css. etc. etc.

I have seen time and time again that besides inside information or a clever angle [and a plum card], those who can code and make the 'net' do their bidding are WAY ahead of those of us that have to wait for a friend or hire a programmer or worse: do not even know what is possible; to get all the technical aspects we face each day dealt with [and with peace of mind]

You do not need to be a mechanic to be a great race care driver, but if you are a great mechanic and a great driver. Even the most 'grueling' course is less daunting. [maybe I should have posted this in Affiliate Confessions?!]

So, ya. learn that code or Like me... count the thousands to hundreds of thousands that slipped through your fingers because you had no clue what to do once inside your server or p202 install or you nice complex lander.

Now, I have to go to class and try not to let people 20yrs younger than me intimidate me with their mental muscle

*Thank you polarbacon and tijn!

*Phoenix- Thanks for the comment. Do you have any suggestion on where to find good learning material? And how long do you think it can take to learn the necessary skills for this purpose of creating professional landing pages?

Does anyone know what is the best WYSIWYG editor for Mac?

There are some Wysiwyg options, like dreamweaver, but for what we do its probably overkill.

Here is an article reviewing several options:
http://www.tuaw.com/2011/06/15/ten-w...-for-mac-os-x/

The other one I heard a lot of good things about is RapidWeaver but you would need to buy several modules to get the same features as WYSIWYG.

This is a new one I just discovered but not had a lot of time to check out:

A free one thats cool for simple jobs that is also cross platform (max, windows, linux) is
http://bluegriffon.org/

Heres a bunch of other options:
