* 49% of American adults ever play video games, and 10% consider themselves gamers. Public attitudes toward games – and the people who play them – are complex and often uncertain.
* Equal numbers of men and women ever play video games, although men are twice as likely to call themselves “gamers”.
* Four-in-ten adults believe that violence in video games is related to violent behavior.
* Among the general public, attitudes toward games are complex and often uncertain.
* Compared with those who do not play video games, game players are more likely to agree with the positives and disagree with the negatives associated with games.
This is one of the biggest unkown fact in Gaming History:

Great info, but one word of warning: be very careful with demographic stats on gaming as a whole.
"Games" are a massively broad field these days, ranging from hidden-object games on Facebook to ultra-arty desconstructivist stuff like Undertale to big-budget explosion-fests like Call Of Duty.
The same demographic does not enjoy all those games! In fact, gaming's extremely niche-oriented: there are many, many gamers who only play one or two games and won't even look at a different one, there are huge differences in platform (and most gamers are wedded to one or two platforms), and styles of gameplay are wildly different. Almost no-one, even the most dedicated gamer, plays games in every genre.
Targeting gaming campaigns is arguably harder than targeting something based on music, film, or books. You'll need to do research into exactly what demographic the sub-genre of gaming targets, and then target that very precisely.
Otherwise you'll end up trying to sell a hardcore military shooter to 46-year-old mums playing Crossy Road, (or a casual Facebook game to 16-year-old hardcore DOTA obsessives) and that won't go so well.
