need some advice on how to proceed

hi friends

thanks to the good people here who helped me on every step of the way , i just ran my first campaign and got about -70% roi

now i could use some advice on how to proceed , not sure if i should open up a follow along yet , let me know if i'm wrong , anyhow here are the details

i ran an soi iphone campaign with 4 landers i ripped from adplexity , ran it on popads for 20$ for 3 days , had some conversions added up to 6.21$ ,

i had these issues and now i am not sure on how to proceed forward ,

1. didn't setup Voluum properly and didn't see the conversions , and for the first day i couldn't see the clicks either .

luckily i did enter enter the right links from the lp's to the offer and enterd my postack url at the network right and got conversions .

2. i have plenty of useful data about the traffic that was exposed to the campaign however , once i saw the clicks from day 2 i noticed 2 lp's out bested the other 2 in clicks , adding screen shot Click image for larger version.

i have since then fixed the issues with Voluum , after getting some help from memo87 on my tracking post ,

now i ask myself should i take assumptions from these results in clicks and other data even though i can't see which converted ?

should i run another small campaign with the same landers to make sure i can now see which converted ?

what would you do next in this situation ?

any advice would be appreciated
thanks
ofer

Since your tracking wasnt setup properly, you cannot really do classified decisions here. The data just tells you what LP produced more clicks to the offer, but you dont know if those clicks also converted. In case you had placement tracking setup correctly, you should also see what placements sent you traffic that resulted in LP clicks, but again you dont see if the clicks also converted. The only thing you can do here, is to see if there are some placements that sent enough pops already but didnt result in any clicks and maybe cut those. But then again, you are rotating 4 LPs so its probably not enough data to cut anything just yet.

Im afraid you will have to rerun the campaing, but this time make sure the tracking works properly

thank you matuloo! , appreciate your help ,i'm not sure what you mean by placement tracking , i can tell you i have data filled in country , mobile carrier , devices, os and browsers , i can see some of them have 0 clicks

if your talking about specific ads placement in sites then i don't think i see any , let me know what you mean as for placements

is there anyway i can make sure the tracking works properly before running the campaign ?

thanks

Hello again,

did you setup the traffic source you are using in Voluum? Especially the advanced part where you can setup the custom variables? You need to do this for every traffic source you are about to buy traffic from and the "placeholders" to use will be different from network to network. If you dont do this, you will not be able to optimize the campaigns. How good do you understand the whole tracking topic, are you comfortable with it already?

You can test the tracking setup of course, first test the tracking link itself and see if the click is recorded in Voluum - this should work as you already showed some data. Make sure the custom variables are in place and working properly - this will be visible after the first few clicks. And as for postback - ask you AM to fire a pixel/postback for you to see if the conversion shows up in your stats.

hi matuloo

thank you for your comments , your help is well appreciated

i have to admit i am not well familiarized with all the tracking issues yet, i learn tech stuff pretty quick usually and i have read a caurmens post on Voluum and followed charles neo's guide to setup Voluum , but still can't say i fully understand it yet
i am also made contact with the voluum support team , trying to make sure i have everything covered .

i have setup my traffic source on voluum but not the advanced part of it , i'm using popads , i just read iam attila's blog post on popads and added [KEYWORD] , here's how it was before i added it Click image for larger version.

on day 2 and 3 of the campaign i could see the clicks quite instant but never got to see the conversions on voluum ,tried to fire a test from the offer page but it's in spanish and i couldn't figure out how to fill in the details ,
i'll contact my AM and ask her to fire that postback pixel and see if i can get the conversion to show on voluum . if that won't work i'll just give it another low budget try and see if i can get something to show .

let me know your thoughts and if there's anything i am missing in the advanced part of the traffic source ,
thanks

Hello again

Looks like the traffic source setup is correct now, tho Im not sure you need all the parameters. Focus on just those you can also use in the optimization process. The more parameters, the longer the link ... I was once told by a coder that very long links MIGHT cause problems - not sure if its true tho. One way or another, there is no point in collecting data that you are not gonna use anyways. So for example those as campaign id, screen resolution, impression id ... dont see much use for them.

If you still cant see the conversions, then there will be a problem with the postback setup. Ask your AM for a sample of a postback, they surely have other affiliates with Voluum, so she/he can just blur out the tracking domain and give it to you to compare it with your own.

The problem with postbacks is usually just the variable you need to put at the end of the Voluum postback : www.trackingdomain.com/postback?cid={HERE}, as it depends on the backend each network uses - dont forget it must be the same variable that you have put in the offer link, for example : www.offerurl.com/?s1={something}&s2={clickid}. In this case the postback would look like this : www.trackingdomain.com/postback?cid={s2} OR www.trackingdomain.com/postback?cid=#s2# ... the format depends on the network.

You might want to post the postback here so I can look at it and tell you if it looks ok.

hi matuloo , thanks again for your comments , all well appreciated

i couldn't hold myself and ran a small test yesterday and it works now ,i got 3 conversions =2.4$ on an 8 $run ,a bit better then the last time , tried to take some of the 0 clicks out of the campaign on popads ,Click image for larger version.

it was interesting to find out however that actually the lp's who converted were not the ones who were clicked the most ,
i had an issue with the offer link before and indeed was missing the &s2={click.id} at the end but sorted it out now thanks to memo87 .

i have now removed on the advanced part everything but websiteid , categoryid , keyword and country as its what iamatilla's listed on his tokens post .

any suggestions on how to proceed ? any tip will help thanks
ofer

This is pretty common. The next step is to figure out 2 things - what is the factor that is responsible for the higher CTR on some landers and what is the reason for higher CVR on the others... and then combine it into a new lander.

However, 3 conversions is not enough for any qualified decisions, its possible that the next 3 conversions will come from the worst lander and you're back at the beginning

thanks matuloo ,

how many conversions is enough to make qualified decision in your point of view ?
should i understand from this that i need to keep running the campaign as it is until i have more conversions to make assumptions on ? or should i take action now and start trying to combine the aspects you mentioned into a new lander ?

ive been also told to try and find the same offer on different networks but have rejected by most , do you think they'll have me approved now that i have some lp's to show them ?

You should reach statistical significance, there are calculators for that, you might want to look them up.

I would wait for at least 20 conversions to really make some decisions about LPs, unless the trend continues - so lets say after 10 conversions you really see one LP is waaaay better than the other one - so like 8:2 for example. Run for some more and the take a look again. You cannot act yet, because you are not sure whether it was coincidence or one LP really is better, you need more data.

For now you dont need more networks, Im mean its necessary to split test, but lets play with what you have for a few days and then apply for more networks. You will have more knowledge, more pages to show them and you will understand what they actually ask for

thank you matuloo ,

i will keep running it untill i have about 10-20 conversions and then see how to proceed , ive had 4 so far , 3 form the same lp and 1 from another , these are the same lp's that converted as my last conversion screen shot .

ill also search for the statistical significance calculators later today and see how that can help me .

ill keep you posted with my findings , thank you and have a good day

hi matuloo ,

i've searched for statistical significance and found charles ngo's post on it http://charlesngo.com/statisticalsig...3045104640%3A0 , after trying the calculators on my offers i found 99% difference between the offers .

i am currently at 9 conversions since the tracking works , 4 more from before the tracking was set right , after reviewing the lp's performance i have decided to replace one that did not convert at all so far , replaced it last night and it already converted 2 times
things are going pretty slow as my daily budget of 7-8$ at the range of 0.0012 - 0.0013 cpc is reached in a few hours of the day , tried reducing some hours but it doesn't really matters as the budget is too low i guess . so far its been about 10 days since i started running and had 47k visits 1380 clicks and 13 conversions. invested 52$ so far ( paused the campaign for 1 day due to the tracking issue)

i also got approved at adsimills as i've already sent them and f5 a message before i got your reply , added the same type of offer , not exactly identical but the same type of offer , at 0.44$ payout ( first offer is at 0.88$ ) splitted it 50-50 between the offers , also converted 1 ouf ot 3 from last night

after discussing the issue with a friend , it seems i have also made a mistake that i cannot see the placement on Voluum , Click image for larger version.

he told me to uncheck the impression tracking and change the [CATEGORYID] to [CATEGORYNAME] , hope it will work this time , i'll try running again today and see if i get any info

a small update : it finally works , apparently i was not aware that after changing the advanced section on the traffic source in Voluum , the voluum campaign url changes and so i needed to change it on the popads campaign

i presume i will need to run it for a while to get some data on the placement , let me know if you have any suggestions on how to take it from here ,

thanks
