celeb images/pics on creatives/landers

i see a ton of people use celeb images in their ads (and some on landers as well)... just look on any spy tool

what's your experience with this?

i assume people using the images do NOT have a license to use those images... they just risk it?

even if they use different domains, ppl can find out the who is and "sue" you for using their image?

i don't know, just wondering what you thoughts are. thanks

just wondering what the deal is with those guys using them...

guess they got lawyers or they just don't care about getting sued...

I would also advice against it. Unless you are based in India or China as its impossible to get sued by say Kim K if you're based there.

Correct.

It's very risky business. However it isn't stopping half of rebillers on Facebook using the celeb images.

what's the worse that can happen? won't they send a C&D before engaging further?

@lambertree - not necessarily. IANAL, but my understanding is that they've got a wide range of potential legal options depending on your country of origin, and some of them can be really unpleasant. "Punitive damages", for example, would be one phrase that might crop up in some jurisdictions.

If you gonna use celebs, you better use hosting and domain register in someone elses name that isnt you. Best would be to use bitcoins for everything and buy using proxies.
It's hard to be 100% on the safe side but always make it as hard as possible for people to find you.
From my own experience you usually just get a C&D and you have to remove the content and they will be off your back.

Please avoid using celeb images in your ads as that can be risky and you might unnecessarily invite trouble.

I've actually had the most trouble with the magazines used in the landers, for example meredith network (shape magazine) etc

No, they can sue you directly without sending a C&D first.

Does the same advice go for brand logos? They're all over the spy tools - EG antivirus landers using the google logo, or sweeps landers using the apple logo to promote an iphone offer...

Yes, those are all trademark infringements.

Celebs Image is 3rd party trademark so without prior approval they will suspend your acct directly.
