VPS option for South Africa

Hi Guys,

I´m about to do something in South Africa. I really like Linode and Digital Ocean but the closest datacenters are in Frankfurt and London.
Do anyone know a good local option?

Thanks!
Pablo.

Any advice is appreciated!

What are you looking to promote there and on what traffic type? - Speed is more crucial for mobile pops for example than it is for desktop banner clicks.

Do you even need a VPS, cant you host it on a CDN for example?

You might want to take a look at this case study of mine : http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...-make-you-more

In case the LPs will load fast enough on a VPS, you dont really need a CDN or localized VPS.

I will be running pop traffic. Since o need to run php I need a vps. That' s why i can't use the cdn.

are you loading php on the initial page that pops? Speed always helps, but I think it's only most sensitive on the initial presentation to users.

I would do this : pick a VPS closest to the location that you can find, but I guess most will be in USA or EU, so whatever you pick it will have to do. Put some landers on it, try to run some speed tests from various locations. If it loads FAST from all parts of the world, chances are, it will load fast from ZA too. Speed is important, but its not about chasing miliseconds, its about having the page delivered fast, without any hiccups or timeouts. Im running ZA too, the LPs are in US and I dont really see any problems.

If you are really serious about that market, maybe it would be a good idea to look for something in africa, but Im personally not a fan of having a VPS in every geo that I target.

Will pick one from London.
Thanks @matuloo!

What PHP do you want to use on the pop page? You can probably use Javascript instead, at which point you can use a CDN rather than a VPS.

(Apologies for not having chimed in on this one before.)

If you absolutely need a VPS, looking at the Internet cabling maps for ZA I'd recommend either one in New York or London. There's a direct cable connection from ZA to both those cities.
