I just came across a Chinese article on WeChat, in which interesting stats that were collected on the Leo Privacy Guard app were revealed. If you're promoting a privacy app or an app that has privacy protection as a feature, the summary below may help you with angle creation and traffic targeting. You can read the original article in Chinese by clicking here.

1. Main Channels Through Which Privacy is Compromised:
-lost phones
-cloud storage
-hardware trojans
-QR scanning
-mobile device software
-mobile device viruses
-free wifi networks
-phishing websites
[Amy: Some of these can be worked into your angle and headlines. e.g. "Do you use free wifi? Protect your privacy now!"]
2. User Demographics:
Gender Ratios:
68% of users are male, 32% female [Amy: Looks like guys have more to hide!
]

Age Distribution:
13-17: 20%
18-24: 56%
25-34: 17%
35-44: 5%
45-54: 1.2%
55-64: 0.4%
65+: 0.4%
[Amy: Useful if you're running on a traffic source that allows targeting by age group, e.g. facebook.]
Users by Geo - Top 10 Rankings:
1. India
2. Brazil
3. Indonesia
4. USA
5. Mexico
6. Thailand
7. Russia
8. Pakistan
9. Colombia
10. Argentina
[Amy: Good geo choices if you're running a similar app.]
Commonalities Across Major Geos:
-large populations
-developing countries
-most people are very religious [Amy: Thus the need to be extra discreet about stuff like porn and extramarital affairs.]
3. Most Frequently-Protected File Types:
Photos: 43%
Videos: 37%
Contacts: 12%
Text Messages: 8%
[Amy: These can be used in your copy, e.g. "Stop your girlfriend from spying on your photos!" "Keep your vids secret!"]
Preferences by Geo:
-Users in India like to hide photos - average of 18 photos/user.
-Users in Spain like to hide videos.
-Users in Thailand like to hide contacts and texts.
4. Preferred Device Unlock Mode:
When setting a lock on their devices, 69.2% of users chose to unlock by pattern, and 30.8% of users chose to unlock by password.
[Potential angle: "Lock your phone easily with this app." and use the unlock by pattern as the image.]

5. Most Frequently Locked Files/Apps:
Personal data (including photos, videos, music, documents): 39.99%
Instant Messaging Apps (e.g. Whatsapp, Messenger, Snapchat): 28.89%
Social Media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram): 14.88%
Others: 5.11%
Basic Device Functionality: 4.13%
[Amy: Again, stuff to work into copy, e.g. "Keep your pics safe!" "Keep your Whatsapp messages private."]
6. Apps Most Spied-On:
Every user's device is spied-on an average of 1.25 times/day. [Amy: Based on my understanding this includes intrusions or "break-ins" from friends/family/etc. that have attempted to access the protected content but were blocked.]
The most spied-on apps are ranked as follows (in descending order of incidences):
1. WhatsApp
2. Photos
3. Facebook
4. Settings
5. Text Messages
6. GooglePlay
7. Contacts
8. Videos
9. File Manager
10. BBM
[Amy: More angle ideas: "Someone may have accessed your whatsapp... Find out who it was!" Note: The app can snap a photo of the intruder. Warning: This type of angle may be rejected by some traffic sources for using scaring tactics - I've never used this angle.]
7. Exercise Caution When Using Public WiFi:

The Leo Privacy app found that although only 9.5% of wifi connections were classified as "risky", these connections can cause major damage, such as compromising device data, or obtaining our personal information through phishing websites.
[Amy: e.g. For angles associated with free wifi, "Free wifi can be dangerous! Find out more." then a landing page with bullet points stating the possible consequences.]
8. Most Users Are Still Not Sufficiently Protected:
According to the app's stats, 90% of user devices scored less than 50% on the "Privacy Status" scale. [Amy: Which means devices are at risk.] Only 4% of user devices scored in the "safe" zone. Scoring criteria included: internet security, password protection, app locking, number of intrusions etc.
Safe (score of 76-100): 4%
Average (score of 51-75): 6%
Risky (score of 26-50): 11%
Very Risky (score of 0-25): 79%
[Amy: Angle idea - "Fact: 90% of phones don't have sufficient privacy protection. Does yours?"]
9. Theft-Prevention Functionality Underused:

Based on general stats, 70% of people have lost their phones at least once.
However, among Leo Privacy app users, only 6% have activated the app's anti-theft function.
[Amy: Another angle idea - "70% of people have lost their phone at least once. Get anti-theft protection now!"]
10. Suggested Good Practices:
-Download device software only from authority sites.
-When installing apps choose to "Allow" less.
-Avoid scanning just any random QR code.
-Avoid connecting to wifi networks that are potentially unsafe.
-Avoid uploading sensitive data to the cloud.
-Make good use of privacy protection software.
Privacy apps, boosters, battery savers and screensaver apps are killing it on our network. What makes them especially interesting is that these apps have global reach and unlimited budget so once you find the right angle and get it profitable there is HUGE potential to upscale
FYI:
I was chatting with a rep from Leomaster. For those of you that are pushing the Privacy Lock app, here are their best-performing geos:
India, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, US.
Also - if anyone would like to get in touch with Leo (to potentially run direct with them etc.) please let me know and I'll put you in touch.
