Hi Alexander! Thanks for starting this follow along!

I really like your banners! They're simple, clean looking, and the message you want to convey is clear. No suggestions in that department.

The trick with app installs is to test many angles until you find one that works. Try to brainstorm more angles, and create 2-3 banners from each so you can see a trend.

Also - I'm not sure GB is the best geo for a newbie to tackle. It may be easier to start with an Asian or South American geo. Was GB recommended by your AM or did you pick it yourself?

As for when to drop a camp - it really depends on how many angles and banners you're testing. With only 6 banners, $35 spend means each banner got around $6, which is 20x the payout with almost no conversions. I would say test new angles altogether or try another geo. I know swift wifi is a solid app, but every person is different so there's no need to feel bad if you can't get it profitable after doing your best to come up with angles.

At any rate - having started your first-ever campaign is a big step! From now on it'll just be a matter of testing until you find something good enough to scale!

Looking forward to your next update!

Amy

Hi Vortex,

Thanks for taking the time to read & comment.

I'm working on new angles now (banners next).

I'll take your advice on the current geo... to Asia I go. UK was my decision, not a recommendation from my AM.

Back to testing

(Very) quick update before class…

Started a new campaign targeting a different geo (BR), running the same SwiftWifi offer. Immediately noticed traffic was much cheaper (duh). That said, ROI still sucked (~ -90%). After allowing each creative to spend ~10x offer payout, and only banking 3 conversions total, I paused the campaign. Going to dig a bit deeper come tonight to see if it's worth *trying* to optimize to profitability/less un-profitability . I may try regardless, as I'd like to practice cutting creatives & placements (I was never expecting to make money on these first few campaigns anyway).

I'm getting accustomed to making banners, setting up tracking and familiarizing myself with the various tracking metrics. I think I'm going to bump myself up to the Mobile Cookbook: Main Course. I'll give a more detailed update tonight.

Try some different angles and LP. Try direct linking as well.

I'm about to test two different angles with 8 new banners each. Does it make sense to start a separate campaign for each angle?

I'm only direct linking at this point.

It's not necessary to start a separate campaign per angle, as you can see from your campaign stats how each banner performs. It would be best to make 2-3+ banners per angle so you can see a trend and be more certain on whether a particular angle is working well or isn't. The 2-3+ banners should have different headlines and ideally different images as well. When you only have 1 banner per angle, it would be harder to tell whether an angle is actually bad or if it just happens to have a bad image etc.

8 banners per angle is a bit of an overkill when you don't even know which angle works. IMO it would give you much better value to test 5 angles x 3 banners/ea, than to test 2 angles x 8 banners/ea.

Brazil is a LATAM geo for sure, but based on personal experience it's not the easiest geo to get profitable (YMMV, and it would also depend on the offer of course). I agree with you that at this point, you only need a camp that will give you enough conversions to allow you to learn optimization. Even now though, you're getting a lot of practice coming up with angles and making banners, so it's all good. The key is coming up with more angles and making more banners from them to test. Testing a few more geos would be a smart move as well. If you limit your spend on each geo, testing several geos at the same time won't break the bank, and will give you more opportunities to hit on a good geo.

You're awesome Amy!

I'm very appreciative to you for taking time to pop in and guide me in the right direction (you saved me a few hours and some $$$).

New camps should be up and running in a couple of different geos soon. I'm just waiting on translations to get back to me.

I'll update here once I've allowed a few days spend.
