f5 + ?= $ Journey to profitable campaigns

I figured no one would mind too terribly bad if I started a new follow along thread as the traffic and technique I am using is going to be different.

For the most part I will be using the mobile cookbook.

However to start I will be testing offers with some mobile pop ads.

My first campaign is a high converting offer.

I hope I do not get n trouble for sharing offers on f5 if it is a problem I will remove it.

Antivirus black - glomobi - 1 click - poland
4.80 CPA
Traffic source popads.net
Mobile pop unders
Spent 6.32
Views 3316
conversions 0

I pray they do not get mad at me for running traffic and it not converting......

Well so much for the idea of running nude but I needed to get a good gauge of rather or not it converts so I know if it is worth getting some landers made for it as I do not speak polish. I thought of google translate but something always gets lost in the translation.

So let's hear what is going on here.

BTW Sam at F5 someone give that man a raise he is awesome! He just told me that the anti-virus MIGHT not be the best bet for me and advised me a better choice. I am down to rule this thing. So gonna go ahead and run that .

Popads has literally no carrier traffic in poland. Switch traffic source or GEO. Popcash and adcash have lots of traffic in Poland, propeller some.
Spy and copy lander (Adplexity), don't create them yourself. The google antivir lander you will see floating around still works very good.
Anyway, Poland has already been hit hard on pops with Antivir pins, you're in for a tough fight.

Yeah thank you Sebastan just swtiched offers on advice from my advisor at F5. I am now doing an MY first page submit. Gonna give that one a run for the money and see what is up. Payout is really low. .40 so hopefully that means conversions are high. I honestly do not care about the money at this point as long as I break even or barely lose which would be awesome. I can test and tweek later.

Do you have any raw traffic advice for testing purposes? I am using popads.net right now. I DO have go2mobi and exoclick in reserve and I CAN use adcash but I am arguing with there support and just got fed up of them changing there story and BSing me I just told them to refund me my account balance.

You're right - a low payout may not be a bad thing, and some low payout offers can convert extremely well. Let's see about this one.

Which niche is this offer in? Go2mobi doesn't have pop traffic. Exoclick is mostly adult traffic - although they do have mainstream traffic as well I don't know how much of that they have for MY (you can check using their traffic estimator).

Adcash is a one of the biggest pop traffic sources - if possible you may want to keep your account alive for future need.

Thank you for starting this follow-along! And I don't imagine any network would have a problem with you "exposing" their offers - it's extra advertising for them which they probably appreciate.

Thank you Amy/Vortex!
The offer is in smasong apple voucher department.

4 conversions cost me 4.00 made 1.60 Honestly that is not bad. Yes I lost but not by much. Not even enough to really sweet the small stuff. Kind of happy really my first day and bam made conversions. I feel I am ahead of the game as the rest is testing and tweeking now.

I will TRY and smooth things over with adcash. I hate eating crow. I guess if I put some salt and ketchup on it it might cover up the taste....

You're right - 4 conversions totally 1.60 with 4.00 spend isn't bad for a first attempt! Since you have a converting offer, I would suggest to focus on testing landers at this point. Try to rip at least 5 landers that look very different, to get an idea on what type will convert the best and go from there.

No need to think that way. It's business - you're just helping each other to make profits. You don't need to be best friends. Potentially losing out on a ton of money because of a couple of support staff is not worth it. If you think this way you won't be eating crow - you'd be eating the best steak with worchestershire sauce...

Adcash rejected my campaign again... This time it is we can not reach your lander excuse.. Yeaaaaa...They swore they use country specific IP's to check landers. Why do they have soo much confusion if this s true?

03-02-2016 04:10 PM #11 christopherh (Member)

okay finally my adcash campaign got approved. Time to see what is what.I will update here in a bit with the stats for today. I have high hopes.

03-02-2016 05:58 PM #12 christopherh (Member)

Okay hit my budget for today. 10.00 ad spend on adcash and did not getting any conversions running nude. I do not think a lander will help there. Not sure. Maybe I need to start doing a little more filtering? However if it does not convert nude it will most likely not convert with a lander right?

There is a lot of settings and I am only targeting right now Android. Should I try targeting blackberry and IOS?

If I can at least get a few conversions off of running nude I will assume I am on the right path.

Also once again having trouble with my postback not working not sure what I am doing wrong with these postbacks.

So total 10.00 budget on both pop ads and adcash and popads.net seems to be the clear winner in terms of conversions.

It took me 1 month of testing to get YTZ profitable. I will surpass that on F5 and mobile. After pops I am going mobi traffic. I will get that green in less time than I did pops. In short I am going to really be busting my butt to excel in every vertical I can excel in.

Correction a stray conversion came in so 1 conversion from adcash.

That's a common misunderstanding. If that was true, then nobody would be using a lander!

There ARE some offers that can convert without a landing page. For something like vouchers though, having a good landing page will almost always make the offer convert better.

This is because most visitors need some preselling before they're ready to take action when they land on the offer page. Some examples of landing pages and how each will help with conversion rate:

1) "Our company is conducting a customer survey. Answer 3 questions for a chance to win a $1000 shopping voucher!" After answering 3 questions, the visitor will feel more entitled to a reward.

2) "Spin the wheel for a chance to win a prize!" And of course you'll let them win! Then: "Congratulations! You've won a $1000 shopping voucher!" This kind of lander entices the visitor to start engaging with the lander. Once they do, they'll be more likely to take subsequent actions - i.e. click through to the offer page and sign up.

Basically, the lander makes things "real" to the visitor by providing them with a believable story. It answers their questions of "What the heck is this? Who's running this? And why are they giving out free vouchers?"

And really, with tools like Adplexity, there's no excuse not to at least test landers!

There is a lot of settings and I am only targeting right now Android. Should I try targeting blackberry and IOS?
Wouldn't hurt. It's a good idea to target broad in the beginning to see where the majority of your traffic is coming from (do check which OSs, carriers etc. are accepted by the offer first), and whether a part of your traffic converting better than others. For example if most of your traffic is for Android and IOS, and Android is converting a lot better, you may decide to just run Android for now and optimize for that to get green sooner.

Also once again having trouble with my postback not working not sure what I am doing wrong with these postbacks.
Are you talking about the affiliate network not posting conversions back to your tracker? Which tracker are you using? If it's Voluum I can help you. And which affiliate network is it? Are they using CAKE? It would help if you could provide the following:

1)A screenshot of your affiliate network postback page with their postback tokens,

2)The offer url from your Voluum offer settings, and

3)The postback url you've entered into your affiliate network.

So total 10.00 budget on both pop ads and adcash and popads.net seems to be the clear winner in terms of conversions.
$10 doesn't give you much data, but if you feel better about popads, then by all means use that for your lander testing.

It took me 1 month of testing to get YTZ profitable. I will surpass that on F5 and mobile. After pops I am going mobi traffic. I will get that green in less time than I did pops. In short I am going to really be busting my butt to excel in every vertical I can excel in.
That's a great long-term goal to shoot for! But you'll be way more effective by concentrating on one or at most two verticals at any one time, especially if you're new and/or flying solo.

BTW are you still running YTZ? If so I would highly recommend Monetizer.co. People I know that have run both, told me Monetizer converted better. Results may vary from geo to geo but it sure wouldn't hurt to split-test!

Wowsers thanks Vortex/Amy!

I am using Voluum.

YTZ yes using DNTX today I actually ht 400 percent ROI. Yes this guy here hit 400 percent roi. I get my free T-Shirt now and a welcome to the club thing?

I am usng F5 over mobile pops and going to get adplex in a few. This will solve my lander problem. Dealing with some real life drama so tomorrow when I update will post all the good stuff. It takes me a minute to make some screen shots.
I will test out Monetize on my fave Geo. The one that is blasting me some income like no tomorrow.

Holy smokes 400% ROI! Please tell me which geo this is and your target placements and what you're bidding, in a PM. Thank you very much!

Enough kidding around. I hope your "real life drama" has been resolved.

I can't see your attachments - got the "Invalid Attachments" error when I clicked on them. Could you please upload them to an image hosting site like imgur.com? We need to get your postback working. How else can you optimize your campaign without knowing what's converting?

(In the meantime, you can manually update Voluum by copying a list of click IDs that have converted, from your affiliate stats, and then pasting them into Voluum. If you don't know how to do that let me know and I'll post some screenshots.)

Afraid not Amy/Vortex my life is CRAZY. Lol but I just try not to focus on it too much.

http://imgur.com/a/vplW9

I did even better than 400 percent today.

14.98 ad spend and made 120.00 even. WHAT? That is CRAZY!!! That is crazier than my life is right now lol.

Your postback should look like this

Code:
http://xxxxxx.voluumtrk2.com/postback?cid=#s2#&payout=#price#&txid=#leadid#
And the offer url in Voluum should look something like
Code:
xxx.com?s1={campaign.id}&s2={clickid}
That's how you setup the postback for networks that use cake, like the one in your screenshot.

Cheers,
Brad

I'm pretty sure the above is wrong since the offer is using cake. You need to change the curly braces to #'s.

Since you posted your link, here is what it should look like:

Code:
http://qtpfr.voluumtrk2.com/postback?cid=#s2#&payout=#price#
This is because this network uses cake, a popular backend which requires you to pass your click ID through S2. In your screenshot you can see the "Tokens". These are the things you can have the network pass back to your tracker (Voluum) when a lead is triggered. In our case all we need is the clickID so Voluum knows which campaign, lander etc.. triggered the lead, and then for payout we use cake's #price# token to pass back how much revenue we earned from that lead.

Most networks you deal with will use this setup, because most use cake for their backend.

If you still need more help setting this up you can PM me and I will get you sorted.

Cheers,
Brad

Okay so 7 landers and 2k clicks each lander = nothing. Only 2 clicks zero conversion. Landers where in English as is the offer. This is discouraging but I need to figure out why this happened.

03-06-2016 02:03 AM #29 christopherh (Member)

Any idea how I can begin to fix this hot mess I got myself into?

Thanks for all your help Brad with the link problem! It's helping out each other that makes us a great community - always good to see!

Christopher: Has your postback issue been fixed?

Okay so 7 landers and 2k clicks each lander = nothing. Only 2 clicks zero conversion. Landers where in English as is the offer.
Are you still running that MY samsung voucher offer? Which traffic source? What's your bid? How much did you spend on the traffic in testing the 7 landers? Are you saying that direct-linking is doing better than all your landers?

Once I know more details I may have more useful suggestions for you.

It is successful. I just gone with it as far as I can go. I buy up the traffic on converting days. Not all days are profitable but overall I win. I think I can win even bigger but in order to do that I need to find a bulk traffic supplier.

03-20-2016 11:47 PM #36 ysekse (Member)

I have also had super low CTR too with ripped landers, here's a few things to try that might help:

*Check DNS load speed, if it is "bad" it could add 200-300ms, though usually it should be fine, but definitely check it out.
*Kraken.io minimize all images as mentioned above
*Cram all the html, css and js into one file
*No <script> in the <head> if possible, move it to bottom of the body tag
*Defer loading all images/mp3 not showing on the page immediately visible to the user ( https://varvy.com/pagespeed/defer-images.html )
*If you have testimonials with many little pictures, load those via a script after the page is loaded
*Also as mentioned above, try to simplify, clarify and dumb down the copy so a five-year-old could understand it

Though even after doing all this the CTR is 1-2% in SE, but in some tier 3 geos the CTRs have been much more "reasonable"

03-22-2016 07:07 PM #37 christopherh (Member)

Amy sending you a PM with my professionally made just for me lander. I might as well I need a ground zero and there should be no errors and it should be optimized.

03-23-2016 10:33 AM #38 vortex (Senior Moderator)

OK I ran your lander last night and got 0.40% CTR. I didn't run a lot of budget to it but with CTR being that low I didn't have to (i.e. more traffic wouldn't have made 0.40% jump to 40%).

It just occurred to me that although I no longer have stats from my previous AU sweeps campaigns, I still have all the landers. So what I did just now was added one of them into the camp and gonna run another $5 and see. My landers are very old and I wasn't doing a whole lot of testing in AU sweeps in the first place (got distracted and moved onto something else back then), but let's see what will happen.

Will let you know.

Amy

03-24-2016 02:10 PM #39 christopherh (Member)

Yes it is possible it might be the geo. I ran it through Malaysia got the same CTR and on that one thought hey must have been the geo which is why I switched to AU. I get this all figured out I will have a couple more landers done up and then start split testing. Then hopefully be back on track.

I had the same CTR for my AU Sweeps camps with PopAds traffic. CR was like 10-20% though. So that made up for the difference. I could not figure out what was the problem.

I just created my very own lander and sent it off to you to critic. I am really happy with it though I know it can still use a lot of work. The copy is week I know. The page is not optimized. I did just optimize the image but it did not shave much off of it only 10kb. The buttons do not display right in all sizes.

Okay I have good news and bad news.

Good news
My lander I created got a 36 percent CTR. This is the highest CTR I have received and I did it myself. I fixed the CTR problem!

Bad news
Still no conversions....

However let me remind you of the good news..
My lander got a 36 percent CTR.

This means I fixed one problem. Just one more problem left to go. I ran naked traffic to the offer and I still could not get it to convert.

So maybe I need to look in at lower cost point offers. As the offers I am running have a 2.80 CPA I will talk to my AM see what is going on.

Edit: Talked to Sam he is all up on getting me some new offers on Monday.
I named my campaign winning in popads because I am going to win. Just to put my mindset right every time I look in my dashboard and see WINNING. Maybe that is why CTR was high? Nahhhhhh. Still sounds good though right?

Big shout out to Amy for not letting me give up and move onto something else. I will be in GREEN in under two more months.

Fuck yeah!!! That's the reward you get for being original and actually putting thought into your creatives. Heck - after seeing the low CTR my old landers did, I don't think I could do better. So congrats on an amazing job!

Have you added a backbutton script to that lander? If not you'll want to do that. If you don't want to bother split-testing the redirection destination, just put the same Voluum click url in the backbutton script for now, so when people click back they'll be sent to your offer page directly.

So you KNOW people are interested enough in your lander to click through! Now try different questions and headlines, and "bridge" your lander with your offer more (so people can see the relevance straight away).

Testing lower payout offers would be nice as well - usually the lower the payout the higher the conversion rate - ASSUMING it's a good offer. But that's why we test different offers.

And I love your campaign naming convention! Expectations are everything - and as long as you don't give up testing, you WILL find success. I know that must sound so cliché, but I've seen it happen time and time again. Especially for something like AM where the learning curve is so steep. You really just need to persist for long enough to learn all the basics and experience your first success. After that you'll know to test different things, optimize the most promising until you hit profits, then scale.

AU isn't the only good geo and sweeps isn't the only hot vertical. If it works out great. If not there are lots other geos and verticals to try. The green will happen in good time.

Okay okay okay sorry about no updates in a while. I have NOT been having any luck what so ever. However my luck has changed. I got excepted into Charles Ngo "AFFcelerator Newbie FastTrack". I feel so blessed to be one of the ones he has chosen first. I feel blessed I get to learn from him. So for a minute I am going to go over everything he says and do everything he says to a T. Emulate my way to success.
