I'm currently a member of Max Bounty and was wondering if its required for Affiliate Managers to have to approve custom banners for all campaigns, or do people here use custom creatives without approval while still following the advertiser's rules to keep their angle a secret?
I dont know what is MaxBounty way of doing things, but basically every advertiser has his own restrictions on it. Some lets you do whatever you want, some has general lines that the network can decide for itself and some demand to approve every custom creative.
You should just ask your AM what are the restrictions in the offer you are interested in.
As for keeping your angle a secret - you should have the trust and confidence in your AM and network that they will not share your creatives with anyone else.
