We need to calculate the Cost(Traffic Source) per (Voluum) Visit = $36.72/75,260 = .000488
Or .488 per 1,000 visits. We can estimate and in the back of our head we say 50 cents per 1000
Based on your traffic source, do you use the AUTO selection under cost model to get your overall cost on the traffic source? It seems that you don't use that method given the screenshots you provided, and that you let your campaign run a week to determine the overall CPM on a campaign.

With that being said, how often are you changing up the bids on your campaigns during the week? Wouldn't you be blacklisting placements as you go.

Lets see if OS has anything interesting we can cut. Most of the volume is windows. So we would kill the camp if we effectively BL windows. OSx we have about .25 in spend and 1.62 in rev. nothing to do here so we move on.
So apparently you expect your VA to do 5 hours of maths without screwing up (?) as he'll have to calculate the spend for each line ?

I suspect for his own sanity, that it would make sense to copy/paste data from Voluum to an excel sheet which calculates the costs automatically.

The process itself seems good, the specifics not too optimal/feasible of you don't want the guy optimizing getting crazy and screwing up all the time after 5 camps.

Cheers,

Hey Simon - You bring up a good point. Once a campaign is stable, we could effectively calculate cmp. At one point, we manually updated cost in Voluum, but that is a royal pain based on the refresh time alone. We have a daily process we go through to do a quick P&L check at a high level. Also on the daily routine, we check for runaway sources as well as in depth for any new campaigns.

Regarding auto - for us it would not work because the cost fluctuates in the system. Last week our CPM on a campaign almost doubled without any change in bid on our end. After heavy analysis, we made a determination that a competitor upped their bid right below ours. In a traffic source where you pay 1 cent over the next highest bid, cost can definitely fluctuate.

Cheers,
I expect my VAs to be able to go through this process and execute. If not, i wouldn't hire that individual to begin with. I walk them through the process with a screenshare session, i thoroughly explain what needs to be done, I then have them work on a few and make recommendations before I let them loose. Along the way they always have the ability to implement what works for them like the use of a spreadsheet. The calculation on this is so simple, it takes more "administrative time" to export that many camps into a spreadsheet.

For other types of reports, we absolutely export and pair up costs to get a good global view of how campaigns are doing.
