Prerender/prefetch does it have an impact on load time?
See caurmens post if you're wondering what that is.
I'm wondering at what point does Prerender/Prefetch start to gather the resources? AFTER your page loads? Or before/during your page loading? If the former, then it shouldn't have any affect on your LP loading time, correct?

I would put it at the end of your landing page. Assuming most browsers will handle it like loading in a CSS file - in order of markup.
This doc gives a little more insight into all the options available:

The snippets has to go before the </head>. Thanks for the link.
Important: Would using prerender pass on the referrer? How can we hide the referrer with prerender?

Prefetch / prerender are specifically designed not to have an impact on the load time of the page on which they're called. They do their prefetching in idle time after the current page has rendered.
Referrer pass-through is more of an issue. I'm not sure if prerender or prefetch pass the referrer - I'll have to do more tests on that. Good thought! I shall report back.

Thanks for this thread.
I just edited many new untested Landing Pages of mine to add "preconnect" instead of "prerender" to my Voluum link because I do not want to distort initial statistics with false clicks... Perhaps after a specific Landing Page(s) proves itself I will switch "preconnect" to "prerender" for additional load time savings with the expectation of skewed clicks statistics. Even so, maybe it is best to keep "preconnect" to prevent the problem of "prerender" not supporting all browsers as mentioned in caurmen's article linked in Post 1.

@dabrostyles - that's a sensible approach. Don't forget to use prefetch too for big image assets etc.

OK, Thanks. I am currently rotating a few different offers in a single campaign. Since it looks like prefetch requires the offer URL instead of a generic Voluum click URL, I assume it's not the best idea to use prefetch at this current time because I can't predict what offer will be displayed... I guess to use prefetch now I could separate each offer into its own campaign.

I would like to add on to this question to caurmen:
Example, if I am rotating 4 different offers, is it feasible for me to put 4 X prefetch codes in my header? So regardless of whichever offer the visitor goes to, it would have already been prefetched?
Does this have any effect on loading time of LP, etc?
