Clicks from Countries NOT targeted on Facebook

So yesterday I received ~2k unique clicks from FB on a US Dating campaign but only ~1600 clicks went to the offer page . Suspicious, I checked things out and noticed a LOT of international traffic (phillipines, Jakarta WTF?) and they are still billing me for these clicks.....this is killing my bottom line and I'm not sure what to do. Should I email them about this? My ads were hard enough to get approved in the first place so I'd rather not draw attention to them but this is some BS should I just risk it? ....any ideas?

There's pretty much always going to be a discrepancy between FB and your network, always more clicks charged than actually hit the offer page. Just like with other ads, people click accidentally and cancel/close etc.

That being said, your out-of-geo clicks can happen for multiple reasons. I think the main one is people who are from the country you are targeting, i.e. it is the country on their profile, who are currently overseas. I had a lot of out-of-geo clicks with a DE/AT/CH campaign I recently ran and I reckon it was because there is a significant amount of people at any one time from those countries who are currently physically located in a nearby country. Facebook still serves them ads but the network tracker redirects them away due to their IP location.

I think the severity of the discrepancies and out-of-geo ads served depends a lot on the country your targeting and the demo. That's my take on things at least.

Also, I don't think Facebook often screws up and serves to people from the wrong countries (as set on their profile). That would be a class lawsuit waiting to happen. Unless in their T&C they have a disclaimer for 100% accuracy of geo-targeting.

Happens all the time depending on the country you target (people on holiday, people working overseas, geo ip database not accurate, ...)

So ~25% international clicks and facebook billing me for this is normal (when targeting US)? I just have to bend over and take it? sigh

Well, It sucks but it's unlikely Facebook will give a rats ass given the people being served the ads are listed as from that country, and geo-based redirection is against their advertising terms in the first place. So the fact your getting people currently located in the Philippines going through to your affiliate link is at the bottom of their 'give a fuck' scale.

In my DE/AT/CH campaign I think it one point I had about 4,000 FB clicks and barely 3,000 on the offer page, still ran at a profit though. BTW, are you direct linking or using an LP? You could potentially ask your network to get your affiliate link to redirect out-of-geo clicks to a certain landing page of yours where you could tell them the dating site only allowed people from the US and then offer up a different site for them that allowed international sign up, or you could geo redirect them yourself to whatever offer was appropriate. Guess you could also ask them if they are temporarily overseas and will be coming back to the US, then link them back to the original dating offer with a secondary affiliate link that has had the geo-redirect removed.

Yeah I think that's quite excessive though, and I don't know if networks would like it - the are you temporarily overseas stuff, because then anyone from anywhere could sign up through your aff link and you'd get paid.

I didn't know this until recently, but if your doing volume for sure bill Facebook (include proof) with the click discrepancies and they might pay you back for the invalid clicks. Just make sure to include as much proof as you can to make your argument stronger. People have received money back!

are you sure they are all unique clicks? Unless you have a way of tracking that its likely that its a percentage of clicks.....esp if you were running multiple ads on the same demo...

pretty much figure that on any given camp on fb there will be a10% click loss....some countries its much higher.....also seems to be worse on CPM

Oh yeah I also suffered a lot of duplicate clicks, definitely likely if you're running multiple ads, especially across different interest-targeted demos. That and people are retarded and will click things and then think 'oh yeah, i clicked this yesterday'

hey thanks for all the ideas. yea its unique clicks, and ive pretty much accepted that there's nothing i can do about it....definitely not going to complain to fb and get my account banned oh well. at least its profitable. really appreciate the input though guys.

I don't know if it was Besmir or Jordan did make a post on this before and he said he got a refund up to $9000 from facebook.

I have the exact same problem too. So can I ask...

1. I am tracking all the clicks with P202
2. I have all the IPs from the clicks
3. How can I upload this database of IPs to check what countries they are generated from?

This is essential for me to prove to FB that they over charged me with invalid clicks. I hope you guys can help me on this. Much appreciated!
