Mateens Mobile Break (17)

Mateens Mobile Break

Hey All,

I've done a lot of FB the last couple years, this year I thought I'd mix things up and learn mobile.

So far I have,

- Read caurmens 'Mobile Appetiser guide'
- Signed up to Go2Mobi
- Signed up to PopCash
- Launched 2 x Go2Mobi Camps using the appetiser method
- Launched 1 x PopCash Camp, (sweepstake offer)
- Signed up to Adplexity, (wow, great tool!)
- Spoken to an AM to figure out some good, converting, low payout offers.

I've learned that being specific with your targeting/angle is where the small pockets of gold lies so I'm just going to keep whipping up angles and offers till something shows up.

After designing over 2,000 Teespring designs, I'm pretty decent with PhotoShop so making banners and landers is usually not an issue.

I'm going to focus on launching campaigns as soon as I learn the basics - Happy to burn about 5k to learn and hopefully find a profitable campaign.

Current Issues

I'm promoting a mundomedia offer and I've just received a notification from Go2Mobi saying,
'It looks like one of the URLs in your link ('mmtrkvk.com`) has been flagged as malware, leading to your campaign getting flagged.'
I don't get it, isn't that just the Mundo Media affiliate domain? Anyone have a similar issue?
Hopefully they're not flagged on Go2mobi - that would suck.

Current Goals

Launch More Campaigns and learn the basics/fundamentals of the launch -> optimise process.

Cheers

Check out the smart redirect in your Mundomeda account. Sometimes it redirects to adult offers. You can usually turn it off to fix this issue with your traffic sources. (in account settings)

Thanks for your answer.

It says 'disabled' in the account settings so it's not that. (Will keep this in mind though - never knew about it).

good luck man! Looking forward to some updates Tracking domains can get flagged sometimes, most of the time its a smaller company who flags it.
Should be able to request another one.

Set up 5 new campaigns on a few different mobile traffic sources.

Current goal is to just spend. $25/campaign, get some data and learn the basics of mobile.

I had no idea how many traffic sources there were for mobile, Crazy!

Anyway, no conversions at the moment so no real stats. What's a good CTR for mobile banner ads? I'm getting something around .5-2%, is that good, bad?

Are there any mobile specific networks out there? Would love to get on those.

Cheers

Hey mateen, I've moved your thread to the follow along section with the rest of them, because it was posted in Mobile.

If you're talking about banners on go2mobi, that's what I was getting on average on Smaato and a few geos, I guess it's decent. It would obviously be different for all of the exchanges, placements and geos though.

There are plenty of mobile focused networks out there, Appflood, Avazu etc., a quick search around STM and you'll find plenty more.

Looking forward to your updates!

I set up a few campaigns just to get the hang of things. Didn't bother with tracking.

Campaign 1
Cost: $15.15
Revenue: $1.20
P/L: -$13.95

Campaign 2
Cost: $33.35
Revenue: $0
P/L: -$33.35

Campaign 1 is via popunders. I set up it up real quickly with a simple landing page and 0 tracking. Just wanted to set something up to see how the whole mobile system works.

Campaign 2 was via banner ads, (Go2Mobi) but I left the OS filters untouched even though the offer stated iOS only. Woops! That's about $15 wasted on traffic that didn't even take them to the offer.

Also, I drilled down and most placements were giving me .50% - 1.2%. There was one placement with a $5 spend giving me 0.06%. Clearly a loser so I blacklisted that.

I know I shouldn't play with filtering too much so I didn't really touch anything else.

I just signed up to Voluum and now need to figure out how to track with it for my popunder source.

Go2Mobi seems fine or should I be setting that up in Voluum as well?

I like mobile. I can see how it can be quite scaleable as the filtering allows you to drill down into exactly what's converting and volume is ridiculous.

Might set up another 6 campaigns today if I can figure out this tracking. $10 on each for the day just to get more data so I can learn.

Set up a few more campaigns but they've just got approved so not much data.

Campaign 3

Cost: $19.19
Revenue: $0
P/L: -$19.19

This campaign is being run on Go2Mobi and has a CPM of over $10! I've been charged $20 for only 4 clicks, (CTR = 0.21%), how do they determine what to charge you? I feel that's excessive as I'm being charged much less for my other campaigns on Go2Mobi.

Going to launch a few more campaigns.

Hey mateen. All the best with your mobile journey, I'll be following it closely. I remember reading your posts on another forum that focuses on PPV which lead me to your blog. We're from the same city btw. Don't worry I'm not a stalker!

Hey guys,

Many campaigns I set up end up spending a lot less than my daily budget. I'm assuming this is because my bids are too low? How do I bid so that I can masimize my traffic/data for the day.

Eg, for popcash, where can I see what the max bid should be or what is a good number to aim for on pop unders?

Cheers

Wow that IS excessive! Are you autobidding? Have you checked your placements stats to see if it's one bad placement sucking up your ad spend? It's a good idea to set a daily budget for each placement to avoid this type of situation.

Unfortunately popcash won't tell you that information. One of my favorite bidding tricks, is to set up several camps (normally 3-5 to start) at different bids so I could see which one gives me the best ROI. That way you'll also see how much traffic you'll get at each bid.

If you like seeing numbers on max bids etc., try popads - their traffic estimator is pretty helpful although at times not entirely accurate.

I trust that the "link is associated to malware" issue has been resolved - now that you're using a tracker.

Are you running one offer? How many landing pages? And are you still running on both go2mobi and popcash? Would be nice to see some stats.

Keep the updates coming please!

Thanks for your answer vortex,

I'm running a few offers with mostly 1 landing page each.

Honestly, I'm taking it slow till I've got my tracking set up correctly. Yes Go2Mobi & Popcash.

question

[Edit - I think I fixed this!]

One of my offers seems to be tracking right in Voluum as I can drill down into device, carrier, lp ctr info, etc but my affiliate network isn't registering any clicks? When I type the Campaign link Voluum generates it takes me to the offer and everything seems fine. It's just not registering in my affiliate network

Any ideas what the issue could be?

My biggest issue right now is getting enough traffic. Seems I'm bidding too low or something.

Questions
With popunder ads what kind of a bid should get you decent top 1-2-3 positions? I usually put 0.004 or something, maybe that's too low.
Are website IDs different for each traffic source? Can't I insert the url of the website I want or it doesn't work that way?

Yeesh Mobile is complex...but I like it!

Hey Amy,

Thanks for your feedback,

I'll definitely try the multiple campaign idea - I think that's a good one!
I'm currently trying Australia but have chosen only a few categories out of the many. Maybe that's why traffic is slow.

I've seen that 0 appear in popcash and can't be blacklisted. Probably an issue on their side but never bothered to ask.

If you're running sweeps, because these offers have such broad appeal, I would suggest to target all categories from the start.

Pop traffic is so fragmented across so many sources, that it's already a problem trying to get enough traffic as it is. Unless you're dealing with large traffic volumes, I'd doubt that optimizing by category would be worth the effort.

I would optimize for OS or mobile carrier instead.

I added their rep on Skype and here's a small snippet of the convo,
Very nice to know! Thanks so much for finding this out for us. Now when other people ask I have a post to refer them to.
