Mobile to get even tougher - First Carriers in the process of blocking ads
Not enough that carriers are heavily policing pin submits, soon the first will start blocking display ads to protect users from spending for data driven by ads.

Three in the UK are already in the process of doing this on a network level. That's a switch that will turn off 9m users from the majority of mobile ads, I'm sure they'll have secret deals like all the leading ad blockers to let some companies slip through with less obtrusive advertising.
Surely this raises huge censorship issues? Haven't seen any comments on this side. 'Oh we thought xxx was an ad serving site'

"Dear visitors from carrier XYZ: unfortunately you can't visit our site. We don't believe we should handle the costs associated with serving pages to visitors from carrier XYZ which is blocking ads and don't generate any revenue for us.
If you are upset we recommend you to switch over carrier ABC (aff link) or DEF (aff link)"

Hmm...interesting. Personally, I see this as an opportunity for the wireless carriers to generate additional revenue from the ad networks. Just thinking out loud here but as an example, the wireless carriers can offer their subscribers a FREE unlimited data plan (or double their data plan, or whatever) that is totally subsidized by ad revenue. The wireless carriers subscribers must agree to receive ads on their device by receiving the benefit of their "new" plan. I see this path as a win win situation for advertisers, publishers and the wireless carriers. Amazon does something similar with their Fire tablet. For example, you can save $10-$20 on the tablet hardware with the knowledge that you will receive ads as a result of the price reduction. I think the the wireless carriers are being really short sighted by mass blocking ads. Give your consumers a choice and let them decide. What do you guys think?

I think google wont let this happen since they own a mega monopoly on mobile ads and it constitutes to their mega profits which they only want to increase not decrease.

Yes 3 are doing it and are becoming ever more powerful, but it must be noted that unlike other countries Ching have done this in, the UK ad blocking is opt-in (you won't be automatically blocking ads, you'lll have to change the settings to block ads) rather than opt-out (where everyone is automatically blocking ads once service begins).
This is important, as it will be slower to take off this way, and plenty of the Target Audience for many offers (Women 30+) will never actually bother or figure out how to change the settings. (Sorry if that sounded sexist, it is in no means intended to be).

I'm wondering how will Google get impressions for their advertisers if the wireless carriers (currently in parts of Europe) are implementing a complete block of all ads including search, display, pop, etc...at the wireless carrier network level? You're right though Attilia. Google is the 200 pound gorilla monopoly in the room that want to increase their bottom line. So I recently discovered that Google is building their very own mobile phone service in partnerships with leading wireless carriers. It's called
Project FI. So, ads will continued to be served at least on Google's mobile phone network. Damn smart!!!
Anyway, to the OP. I think its too early to tell what will transpire with this recent news. Something to keep an eye on though.

I think this will only continue. If I was a mobile operator, I would probably do the same thing ...
