hello everyone,
i am currently reading this book called work the system by sam carpenter, and he talks alot about working on documentation, so that everyone else can do the work for you, faster and better.
he recommends to think that everything in life is a system and that we can make it better by working on it, and then recording it (documentation) so that someone else can do it for you.
the purpose of this thread is to discuss how we can implement his suggestions and what other ways are STMers already doing?
our current documentation and its issues
1. we have simple documentation for creating of campaigns, cutting placements etc
2. however, the documentation does not specifically state who is supposed to do it and also the frequency, so its not done as often as we like it
3. sometimes certain processes lapse, for example instead of entering a 50 budget, the employee enters 500 instead, how can we trace these mistakes especially if they dont turn up in a report?
4. documentation usually also requires some form of training of staff, they get confused when we suddenly change the things we do, and it can be difficult to understand.
what kind of documentation are you doing? and where do you do the documentation?
the book recommends that u document EVERYTHING, but where would you start? does your documentation include flow charts? would it apply to just the lower-skilled workers? what about the higher skilled ones that are sometimes better than us in understanding certain portions of the business?
and also for affiliate marketing... what is our real goal? of course its making money, but what kind of a service are we providing? acquisition of customers for big app companies?
Like many things in life, you can answer your own questions with a matrix.
Take a piece of paper, an draw a rectangle. Now draw a line through the middle of that rectangle both vertically and horizontally, so that now you have 4 rectangles. Now on the vertical axis draw an arrow going up, and label that "Importance and Impact". On the horizontal axis, draw an arrow going to the right and label that "Ease of implementation".
Now try to mark where in this matrix whatever process you are planning to document falls. Do this, and then upload an image of your endproduct in your next forum post.
I think you will see that by then you will have figured this out all by yourself.

looks like there were many important things we did not work on
There you go.
