It'll very much depend on what tracker you're using.

If you're using a self-hosted tracker, you'll be fine to start with a decent VPS - around the 2Gb RAM mark is ideal, but you can get away with 1Gb if you're not running large volume. Do get your VPS from a reputable company running decent hardware (SSDs are probably the most important thing.)

If you're running Voluum or another non-hosted tracker, you probably don't need a server at all. See this post: http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...-Cost-Way-Ever!

I will use Voluum tracking, I read that it is the best.

Not sure if its the best, but its definitely a good choice, Im using them too for some of my campaigns.

Since you go for Voluum, you might be able to run without any server, just pick some CDN to host your landers. In case you want to use more advanced landers with any server side code/scripts (php for example), you will need some additional hosting tho. VPS should be good enough for you since voluum will take care of the DB load .

You're new? I'd say VPS, when you hit 1k+ profits per month move to dedi.

If they had self hosted trackers when I started out as they do now I'd jump at the chance to get on board. They save a lot of headache.

@matulo, @bobliu What VPS you suggest?

dont start with dedi if you are new
grab some good VPS and learn to work with it
if its some cloud provider you can give it more power very easy if your projects grow

I moved from a decent reliable shared hosting platform that i've used for years to a VPS recently and noticed the speed difference, so much so that i'm going to be setting up another to put my SEO sites on

I'm sorry this isn't a technical analysis... but if the page load speed is noticeable without running any speed-checkers etc. then it can only be a good thing with regards to Pops etc.

I'm just starting out... and when I start making a bit of decent bit of money i'll certainly get a dedicated server setup

I started with this : http://beyondhosting.net/Virtual-Pri...x-VPS-Hosting/ - the 2GB RAM option, they had some special when I ordered, lowering the price by like 30% I think.

There are way more viable options out there so feel free to look around.

It really depends on the purpose for which you want to use the server which you have not mentioned. A VPS having 2-4 GB RAM is cheaper compared to a dedicated server as you have to share it with other sites as a result of which your IP reputation can be affected by that of the sites running simultaneously on it.On the other hand the dedicated server with upto 16 GB RAM as it's name suggests is truly dedicated only to your work reducing the chances of you getting blacklisted.

Since you are a newbie I suggest you start out with a VPS and see if it's working for you..if not then you can try a dedicated server.
