I am currently using Imobitrax as a tracking solution and found something that I think would be a great "direct link" opportunity (ie no landing page).
If I direct link through Imobitrax, when I send traffic to the merchant site will my Imobitrax domain show up as the referrer or the domain that I am buying traffic from?
So for example say I'm direct linking an offer I'm advertising on Pornhub, will the traffic to the merchant site show up as from Pornhub or my Imobitrax domain?
I guess I'm paranoid that say if I found a great direct link opportunity, what is to stop the merchant from just outbidding me from the spot I am currently advertising on?
Or if my Imobitrax domain shows up as the referrer than at least my traffic source will be cloaked?
Hopefully that makes sense.
Thanks in advance.
It depends on your campaign setup in Imobitrax.
By default, you will pass the traffic source referrer to the advertiser (that is what you want to avoid), but you can setup single or double meta refresh to delete the referrer info. The only issue with the single and double meta refresh method is that you lose some traffic, but that is the cost of hiding your info. Double meta refresh is safer than single, but your click loss will be higher specially in mobile.
There are other methods like SSL to hide your referrers, just do a search here in STM or in Google about blocking referrers.
Just because your immediate referrer to the offer is your tracking domain, it doesn't meant your traffic source is cloaked. One can easily detect what came before that.
What you'd want is SSL (preferable), DMR, or both to hide referrers. DMR can leak referrers actually, so don't expect it to be 100%. SSL is much better, especially with the right setup.
Shameless plug: I believe Thrive is the only cloud tracker (fast worldwide redirects, handles huge volumes) that supports SSL
Hey thanks for the advice guys.
I guess I gotta think about the best way to do this.
Is there a lot of click loss if you use a Double Meta Refresh? Like what sort of percentages are we looking at here?
I promote only Desktop traffic.
