Very satisfied with making no money in 30 days! (3)
Almost exactly a month ago I restarted my affiliate marketing career. I've been involved in other online and offline business for about a year and a half now, and hasn't run an affiliate offer in that time. I always planned on coming back though.
Over the past month I've been having trouble with offers getting paused, inconsistent traffic, tracking setup errors and a bunch of other noob mistakes. However, this morning when I checked my stats I saw this:
I have a campaign doing a consistent $30/day, with another campaign going from -$20/day to $70/day. Still need to figure that one out, as most of the traffic is coming from one placement on one traffic source.
In any case, I'm pretty happy with reaching overall break-even after a month of re-learning these skills. If you're starting in this business, yes you can make money by following the advice on this forum! I didn't do anything different from what everyone's preaching. To recap, this is what I do:
1. Get a good offer. Asked my AM and spy on the competition to confirm. THE OFFER IS CRUCIAL.
2. Get a couple of good landers/banders. I just duplicate those landers and banners until I'm in the ballpark (~ -50% ROI).
3. Create variations of banners/landers.
4. Start cutting placements/banners/landers/carriers/etc. ONLY BASE DECISIONS ON STATISTICAL SIGNIFICANCE.
5. If not at break-even after 3 or 4 days, stop and move on.
If anyone is interested, I used mainly the PPV traffic sources everyone talks about on here, running traffic to a couple of networks that's also mentioned all the time.
Something else to keep in mind: you won't know if something works UNTIL YOU TEST IT. Although it's a small campaign, the offer in my $30/day campaign was mentioned in another thread on here that it's not worth even trying to promote it (it's a pretty old offer). Fortunately I tested this offer before I read that thread, and now it's making a nice profit. Same goes with traffic sources. Some offers just don't convert on some traffic sources, while others do.
Reaching this point has been REALLY motivational for me. I've got a bunch of things I want to try out, but I've been forcing myself to limit my efforts to "normal" affiliate marketing until I start making a profit. Although it's definitely possible to make a very good income by running offers the normal way, I want to gain a competitive advantage as soon as possible. It takes a lot of hard work to keep making a profit, and I don't want to do this forever.
From my experience so far I am finding that it all really comes down to Research! The more you setup and find something that is not already milked the more chance you have in it along with testing of course!
Is it worth buying spaying tools as I can't afford any and I'm only using follow.net but with that you have to provide a website of an affiliate and that goes back to the chicken and egg question. I first need to find affiliates who have launched campaigns and offers on XYZ
