How to go RON?

Hi all,

I recently discovered a new traffic source. It has many sites and many ad placement, but there isn't a specific site which has enough volume. So the only way to get volume is to target many sites or going RON.

How do you face this situation? I mean, how do you manage to get a profitable campaign in this scenario?

For RON I know that you need a really big budget to test.

Basically you're going to have to run traffic and then pinpoint the sites that are profitable while eliminating the junk.

This could take a long time and cost some big $$$$ so just be careful.

+1. There is no other way than to run RON campaign and just eliminate bad placements. One tip I can give you is to test your flow (if you haven't already done that) on single placements so you know the best lp/offer combo for your geo. Additionally, I would use the best banner and set cap to 1/24h.

Good Luck.

Let me give you a few points about how to run RON.

1. You should have a working funnel when starting a RON campaign. RON is better to use for scalling, not testing.
2. Always start with cap 1, especially when bidding CPM. There will be a lot of crap/fake traffic sites... give them the cap allowance and you can bet their bots can fill it
3. Never forget to set a daily budget, especially in a large GEO or you are in for a nasty surprise.
4. Start with low bids, then increase as you see fit. Try to eliminate as many fake traffic placements while bidding low, as possible.
5. Watch your RON campaigns for the first few hours, never launch it in the evening when you are about to go to bed or you can have a big headache in the morning

RON is all about cutting the bad placements and whitelisting the good ones. Losses are inevitable here, prepare for them.

Good luck

Another good tip when doing a RoN. Make 2 camps, 1 for desktop and 1 for mobile. Both perform differently and the CPM/traffic are totally different too. By making 2 separate camps you are able to adjust your bid accordingly.

This should be pretty much mandatory, you even need different offers for mobile and desktop traffic, mixing it together is a bad bad idea

When targeting mobile, I also recomend to target wifi separately from carrier traffic.

If you have a good relationship with your traffic source, ask your AM to add any bad sites to your black list.

Most traffic sources wont do it for you because they want to make as much as dough out of you especially if you haven't spent much money.

Also, make sure you send some good quality leads from a premium site before you send RON traffic.
RON leads can be horrible.

I had a site that was converting really really well. It had over 80% ctr to the landing page.
I looked at the site and it was a Turkish site even though i was only targeting US.
The next day I was booted off the offer.

So make sure you look out for any suspicious activity especially in the first 24hours.
