Facebook, Wonderland for online marketing ;)

Hi everyone,

I have to share with you guys this amazing stuff. I was browsing the my Facebook wall this morning when suddenly a sentence caught my attention:
"You were born in Romania, but live in Israel..." Like first thing that came into my mind was: is this some kind of institutional stuff, trying to remind me about who am I ?

Then I just realized it was a promotion of a firm which does personalized printings on clothes...I do not remember exactly the words but the idea was something like: ... so wear a cool t-shirt showing how proud you are about it.

Well, my conclusion: with this laser targeting options and the never-ending possibilities to come out with original ideas for promotional angles, you guys got the space to bring out powerful campaigns.

Best of luck !

P.S. for any questions about cool offers to promote, just let me know.

Is a great read. Basically, dude pranked his roommate by serving him laser-targeted ads on facebook.

"Roderick Russell was a bit shocked by just how personalized the ads on his Facebook page were becoming. In the right-hand rail he started seeing messages for cures to a unique malady of his—he's a professional sword swallower but has trouble swallowing his vitamin pills without gagging. So this ad was a little too close to home: Trouble swallowing pills? Does it seem ironic that swallowing swords is easy and then small pills make you gag?"

"His sword-swallowing roommate was seeing other weird ads, like this message next to a phallic image: So you like swallowing things? You're in luck because we have an amazing deal for you!"

...and that's the story of why I dont have facebook and preach death to windows 10.

(Side note: crash course to getting started with linux here + will make you 95% anonymous online. You'll thank me in 20 years - completely free btw)

Facebook has really become an amazing advertising platform.

I thought calling-out users that way was one of the (multiple) ways to get banned...

When you make it too personal it's against their TOS. You are not supposed to or allowed to do that.

And they're only getting better. What's next? Emotion recognition from recently uploaded photos? "Target people who ave posted a sad photo in the last 24hours, who like pizza"

And with their face recognition algorithm we'll be able to target "someone who's got a friend recently married", "someone who's been posting a picture on a ski-lift"...etc lmao...

Someday (when our governing authorities will know a bit more about "da internet", which ain't gonna happen anytime soon) all of this abuse of everyone's privacy will be over, until then... play hard!

It's pretty sad, for a service which would probably cost only $50 yearly, we're all giving away data worth $5K just because we didn't want to look at the fineprints... the magic of "free"
