remote desktop to windows vps = slow?

Hey guys,

Got a windows 7 vps (2gb ram, 40gb storage, 2 core)

Connect to it using Microsoft Remote Desktop on my mac

Only chrome installed and running on the vps but moving around is slow

It's like a normal pc without a graphic card, you need to wait 5 seconds for something to open up, fully close, finishing typing etc.

Is cloud farming "vegetables" fated to be slow like this?

Where is your VPS located and where do you try to access it from?

Try to reboot the VPS and contact their technical support if it still acts slow. It shouldn't take that long to load stuff...

I use 1 GB RAM and it's works good
try to change VPS provider

Yeah 1GB RAM should be enough and as "hangman" says you should change the provider if the issue doesn't get resolved.

It's not slow, it just appears to be slow.

I've used the *exact* stats you mentioned for a windows VPS. It was in New Jersey and I was accessing from Colorado/Texas.

There's simply a delay...something to do with the remote desktop "thing" for windows.
Sounds vague, but that really is the answer.

What are you using it for? I used mine because I don't have windows but needed several programs that only run on said garbage OS.

A lot of the programs were set and forget (scrapers, bots, etc) - as such the delay was a non issue. The VPS was performing fantastically; only annoying when using in real time. Note that I used powerup hosting, but shouldn't matter.

The delay is normal, no work-arounds exist - for using via the GUI, at least.

Lastly, I've used a windows VPS twice as powerful as the one mentioned (also from CO/TX to NJ)...exact same delay when using RD connection because:

Windows

It's to do with server location being far away from you / your internet speed. Try using in black and white mode without any fancy graphics and turn down the resolution. In the long term, get a server in a region closer to your IP http://www.whereisip.net/. It's just like lag with gaming.

2-3 second delay given a 1.5k mile distance leads me to believe it has to do with the windows gui remote desktop feature (not distance).

If you do switch and confirm I'm wrong/right please update the thread.

Also wth is cloud farming vegetables?

Heh, used RDP to connect to buddies computer in the same city as me....still has delay.

Apparently this is because:
"When you use a Remote Desktop Connection, it optimizes the experience by disabling anything related to graphics. (no background image etc) It is the graphics transmission that slows down a connection. Switching between applications or scrolling on a website means that there's lots of new pixels that has to be sent over the RDP connection, thus the amount of data to send is substantially larger than just browsing."

bobliu unfortunately your answer makes too much sense, because microsoft - though quite frankly I'm really surprised and was uncertain/curious enough to waste an hour testing this nonsense

(Idk if you can decrease the graphics anymore than RDP forces them to by default...but have depleted my ADHD time-wasting quota for the day and won't be finding out)

Try using RDP > install Teamviewer > remote control through that.

You might find the connectivity and performance changes.

I don't think it is your VPS or where you're logging in from as much as it is that you are using a free Microsoft Remote Desktop app to access the VPS.

If you're serious about using VPS's then invest in a real RDP program. I have used https://jumpdesktop.com on my iphone and ipad and now I also use Remotix on my Macbook that was a bit more expensive. http://www.nulana.com/remotix-mac I was controlling my servers and setting things up from my iphone so was definitely fast enough for that! Oh and I was logging in from Europe on 3G to servers in the US east coast.

Oh yeah, Jump is good! I can confirm that! Great idea "intheory"!
