Seeking a Mentor in exchange for FREE work

Hi all,

Starting practically right out of high school, I have 10+ years in the online advertising and marketing space. My skill set includes biz Dev, media buying, audience targeting, sales, sales materials, public speaking, ad design (graphic primarily, no flash or HTMl5 yet), copywriting, video editing, data analysis, market research, trafficking, management, and many other misc. I also have insights and experience with various systems and companys including but not limited to; Doubleclick campaign manager, Doubleclick bid manager, Salesforce, PowerPoint(expert user), Photoshop(expert user), Adwords, FB, comScore, and many others.

I'm looking to learn from the best and I have a lot of valuable skills that can be put to work in exchange. I am also exploring the possibility of partnering with people that may be missing skills I possess to create a symbiotic and synergistic team. I am an aggressive, creative, and hungry entrepreneur looking to grow and make a mark on the industry.

My goal; be massive, be innovative, be legit, give back.

First of all, I applaud your enthusiasm. I think what you need first and foremost is to start running some campaigns. Nobody said this AM thing is easy, but it is also not rocket science. You need to first not make any silly beginner mistakes, and then you just need to test a lot of stuff.

If you post a follow along and it looks like you are showing persistence, you will get people to comment and provide you with suggestions. That is the kind of place STM is.

As for your suggestion to offer free work, while I understand the intent behind it, I would suggest that this is probably not the best way to go about it. Anyone who actually know what they are doing can easily afford to pay for work. For them, someone doing "free" work for them often ends up having negative value because they need supervise such workers, double check their work, often correct mistakes, and it is hard to give negative feedback when someone is offering to do something for free. It is like someone offering free haircuts. Most people would prefer to just go to the hair dresser they know and trust and pay the 50 bucks or so.

I understand why people may be apprehensive allowing someone access to sensitive information or aspects of an operation that could cause harm or cost money. As you know there are multiple tasks and responsibilities that could add value to an initiative without being a vital aspect, I imagine folks could think up a few. I'm not worried about being able to impress or earn trust (please don't confuse my confidence with arrogance, I like to affirm as many people as possible, especially myself) Like I said, I'm looking for an opportunity to learn and grow, not a one off chance to access information or get a glimpse into an operation.

I have started some campaigns but am holding off until I feel comfortable I have a better funnel building system, list manager, squeeze page (not sure if I'm using any these in the right context so I hope I'm making my point) in order to better leverage the traffic to my front end deals. In addition, I'd like to secure better traffic sources (trying to cut some deals now with Publisher's) and decide on a data management platform (that won't break the bank). I will absolutely post a follow along, thanks again for this suggestion.

Lastly, although it's labeled as such in my heading, the work I provide wouldn't technically be free, it would be a barter. My hope is the relationship and experience I might gain would be a significant ROI. If nobody replies, I lose nothing, but in sales; if ya don't ask, ya don't get

From my experience so far with AM, You need a large bank account or at least some other form of income to really dive deep into AM. If I was you keep your day job until you know you can make a good ROI with AM. But as they said earlier it really is quite simple, in a matter of months I know people who are making $300 a day already. Just stick with it and its golden.

from reading this section in your post i really dont think that you need a mentor you could be a mentor yourself.
like the previous comment of "cmdeal" "I think what you need first and foremost is to start running some campaigns" and i totally agree.

start reading as much as possible all threads related to you, focus on some vertical and start pushing forward.
when the time will come your mentor will find you if you will still be looking for him

its all about testing making mistakes and learn how to be better.
