Hi Folks,
I feel like a total dummy when it comes to Google AdWords. All my campaigns get disapproved except for one. And, that one wasn't tracking properly to the right final destination so I wasn't getting credited.
I've read and read and have worked very hard at this to no avail.
Would anybody consider walking me through this? I've looked at as many forum posts as I can, but they seem to be just outdated enough that my situation seems different.
I'm trying to simply make a banner that links to a penny auction site. Nothing crazy, but it's frustrating the.... out of me!
Not giving up and my enthusiasm for AM has not changed. But, it would be nice to actually have a campaign go live since nothing I've tried has worked over the last week or so.
Thank you
PS, I WILL be successful, but could use a little help to get started.
so what's your question?
Hi! Thanks for reaching out.
I've been given a URL from a penny auction site. I put that URL into the AdWords destination URL. When I run the ad, there are several clicks, but they do not show up on the penny auction site's click tracker. I double checked the URL with the penny auction site and I have it as the correct link.
It's probably set up incorrectly, all I know is I've spent more than $150 and none of the clicks actually registered on the penny auction site. I put the campaign on pause...

On a positive note, I have a pay-per-call ad that I finally got approved and running a few minutes ago! That's probably a better fit for a Newbie like me anyway.
Also, I struggled with Google to get my pay-per-call ad approved. They wanted me to have a FULL website even though I was doing mobile only.
However, I realized that the phone number was showing on the LP but it wasn't actually created on the LP. I made that change and now it works -- no website, just a white landing page with the phone number in the middle!
Ok, this is awesome. I'm running my first campaign and dialing it in. Yes, I'm losing money, but woooo this is fun stuff!
I think I can get this first campaign profitable next week. AM is a blast!
I'd host a newbie Adwords mastermind comprising of 2-3 people at the same level with the same budget. Adwords isn't too difficult if you're running WH offers.
Keywords bidding/search:
- Start with a bunch of keyword groups and use phrase match or modified broad.
- Don't do too many if you have a low budget so you'll have meaningful data. Try to get a "feel" for it and don't care too much about statistical significance.
- Keywords that didn't convert after X clicks, add them to your negative keywords list.
- Rinse repeat until profitable.
- SEMrush for spying.
Have fun!
You probably should start by reading through all the Adwords guidelines.
"Penny auctions," for example, are considered a high risk product with strict review guidelines and lots of restrictions.

Great ideas, Thanks thuglife.
fantastic tip, i appreciate it. Yes, the whole premise of the auctions is shady. i'm moving on to something more conducive to google's permissible ads. the last thing i need is to lose my account as a newbie...
