If you are starting out, I would recommend mailchimp as this guarantuees inbox deliverly and is quite cheap in the beginning.
Once you start doing descent volumes, mailchimp becomes very expensive (high CPM) and you have to look for another provider such as emailvision
There are basically four ways you can build your own email database:
1. If you have a blog or site with a lot of traffic, you can capture the email address from the user and make him/her optin to your newsletter
2. You buy an email database - and the domain the user opted in to - from someone. I would recommend to do a testmailing before buying to see average OR, CTR, etc
3. You start up your own sweepstake, add some sponsors and coreg partners in there and start to monetize the path while you buy traffic
4. You become a sponsor or coreg partner with adsalsa, egentic, responseconcepts, etc. This will typically cost you between 0.1 and 0.3 euro per DOI email address (full user data)
Email marketing only makes sense if you have a database of at least 100K users, and this is really the bare minimum.
Focus on EU and especially the smaller markets NL, BE, PT or LATAM such as MX, BR
