How I do Pay Per Call

I'm always looking to improve my techniques so please feel free to provide any suggestions. In this thread I'm going to focus on Roofers PPCall campaign. Prior to starting any campaign I do a ton of keyword (positive & negative) research within the niche using Google Trends, Keyword Research tool, etc. I usually start with about 300 positive keywords using exact match and broad match modifiers. I have a standard list of negative keywords like job seekers, education, etc but I also use a scraper to find negative keywords. In this Roofing Campaign for example, you could potentially lose your a$$ if you don't have "Red Roof Inn" as a negative keyword. Lastly, I go as granular and as local as I can before I go national with any campaign.

I use an open source telephone program called OpenVBX along with Twilio for local numbers. I create a call flow in OpenVBX that goes like this:

CALL FLOW: Local Twilio # -> SMS -> Subscription -> Dial PPCall #

Thus, an example would be the following Google Ad Copy:

Call: (904) 555-5555 <- Local Twilio #
Affordable Roofer. All [local] Area <- "Roofer" and not "Roofers" makes it appear that it's a smaller operation (less overhead - better deal)
Free Quotes. Call for Service Now! <- Strong CTA

When someone calls the local Twilio # they are calling my OpenVBX flow which automatically sends them an SMS to their smartphone:

Looking for a Roofer? Call us now at (855) 555-5555 <- Actual PPCall # This is a clickable number from within their smartphone...
Reply STOP 2stop. <- If they reply STOP they are automatically removed from my list.

This person is automatically added to my Roofer Subscription list on OpenVBX (Remarketing... and then the PPCall # is dialed and they are instantly connected to the Roofer IVR.

Every Tuesday (which for some reason in my experience is the best day for PPCall) I send them a SMS:

Still need a Roofer? Call us now at (855) 555-5555 <- Actual PPCall #
Check out this cool (general home-related affiliate offer - Amazon, Clickbank, CPA, etc) http://123bitly.com*
Reply STOP 2stop.

~BLACKHAT because some offers prohibit SMS traffic~
Occasionally, I sometimes try other PPCall Home Service offers with an SMS:

Still need a Roofer? Call us now at (855) 555-5555 <- Actual PPCall #
Want to Save up To 70% on Your Electric Bill by Switching to Solar? Call (855) 777-7777 <- Other PPCall offer
Reply STOP 2stop.

* I use Funnelflux (http://funnelflux.info) for all my tracking. I used to use Prosper202 for several years but I've made the move over to FunnelFlux a while back.

I've been doing PPCall for about 2 years now and it's working well but like I said before any suggestions would help.

Thanks,
Michael

How did this work out for you? Interesting setup

So I'm assuming you use the local Twilio number because it converts better? Does having the ad go directly to the offer not work as well? When they call the twilio number does it just hang up on them and send the sms, or do they get a little message? If I was calling something and it just hung up, then I started getting texts about roofers, I'd be like "What? I wassssss just calling a roofer, why should I call this second number?"

Also, does setting up all those numbers in Twilio cost a ton and take a lot of time? Or do you just do it for initial testing, and then just use one number, instead of local specific numbers?

Also, what gets tracked in Funnelflux? Since it's all phone calls, nothing is going through your tracking server right?

Also, where do you go to get your PPC offers? Thanks!
