Can't I just use unbounce for landing page design and hosting?

Sorry if that's a stupid question but that's why I'm posting in the newbie zone.
Can't I, instead of signing up to a hosting provider and using Adobe Muse, just simply use unbounce?

I searched the forum for threads but couldn't find one.
Thanks!
D.

Technically you could, but unbounce pricing is fairly expensive compared to traditional hosting (you're paying a premium for their landing page services) Their enterprise plan is $500 for 500K visitors which is pretty easy to blow through if you're sending a lot of traffic.

You can always do some simple maths.

The highest non-custom pricing plan for unbounce is 199 usd for 100k visitors.
thats 1,99 usd / k

So this basically means you are paying an extra 2 usd on whatever the price you are paying to get 1k visitors to your landing page (you are paying 0,002$ for each visitor)

There are basically just 2 types of traffic: auto-open and action-open.

Auto-open means that the page is displayed to user regardless of his action. These are popunders, popovers, redirects..
Action-open means the page is displayed to user after he completes a click on either a text link or a banner.

Auto-open comes in 2 flavours:
- desktop and wifi mobile - where your normal price for decent volume could be around 1 usd. So in this case your landing page cost would be 67% of the total cost. Thats not really good is it?
- 3g carrier specific - where your normal price for decent volume would be anywhere from 5-50 usd. In your best case scenario 50 usd, your lp cost would be just 4% of the total cost, in your worst case scenario 5 usd - it would be 28% of the total cost.

So unless you plan do run pops on a really competative carrier that has extremly high prices, you are shooting yourself in the leg with unbounce.

Action-open again has similar price discrepance between carrier and non-carrier traffic (or RON and specific placements / keywords / whatever), however the numbers of visitors that actually come to your lp are much much lower, becuase they need to complete a click before getting there.

Lets say you are bidding a fixed cpm for 1000 banner displays, and your CTR is around 1%, this means 10 visitors would reach your actual landing page.
For them you would pay 0,02$ to unbounce.

It all comes down to the cpm prices then. If your cpm is 0,1$ then the lp is 20% of the total cost. It your cpm is 1$, then your lp cost is 2% of the total cost.

Summa summarum:
Unbounce works great if your traffic costs a lot. For example if you are doing financial leads on premium display publishers like cnn etc.., or if you are doing bidding on highly priced keywords in adwords. For all else its way too expensive.

If it helps you get started, and to get your first profitable campaigns, then yes, use it 100%
