I'm in the same boat. Have a full time job that I can't quit. I spoke to a very experienced affiliate marketer the other day and asked him if the following plan is realistic: Spend 15 hours per week working on affiliate. Expect first revenue (not profit) to come in after 3-5 months. Fully break even after 1.5 years.
I don't have any relevant skills beyond being reasonably web-literate.
Key, of course, is to stick to the 15 hours per week. However, if you apply the big rocks approach, it should work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmV0gXpXwDU

Yep it is certainly possible for both of you. The key as Daedalus2 pointed out is identifying your time/money you can dedicate to AM and sticking with that plan as much as possible. Read through the success stories as there are many people that had jobs when they started AM and were able to kick the job once the profit levels were consistently high enough. Daedalus2 has the plan, define a schedule of tasks, work on them consistently in that window, and the results will come when they come as long as you are consistent.

If I wanted I could work only 1 hour a day, but to me its a lifestyle so I dont even call it working. Nonetheless, you can work very little after you've invested greatly in learning the ropes.

You can create procedures, then systems, hire employees and have them do 90% of the work for you - while you focus on the big picture and the overall vision and be more of an operations person vs a jack of all trades.

Dunno who told you this but its total nonsense. First of all, you will see some revenue right after you launch your first few campaigns, maybe even with the 1st one. I cant imagine launching campaigns for 3-5 months without making any single conversion... To break even after 1.5 years? It would require one hell of an attitude to keep loosing money for 1.5 years straight and still going on with it. I can imagine someone going on and off with this for such period of time, but giving it dedicated 18 months and not even reaching breakeven point? That would require a restart and a complete change of strategy.

Many and I mean MANY people started their AM careers as part time jobs, then went full time once the profits justified it. You dont need more than a couple hours per day to get going in AM, I did the same, thou many years ago. I personally believe its better to keep a side-income when starting in AM, than going full force at it since the start. Having a backup income gives you the much needed peace of mind and the ability to risk more than you can with your ever shrinking savings.

Go into it knowing that you're competing with 1000's other affiliates that do this full-time.

Part-time effort = part-time results. (IMHO YMMV)

What one can do during a day of full-time dedicated work, someone else can do in an hour. I have seen this happen over and over again. People are not all the same, its pointless to compare them just like that.

Hi keltoh20,

I think one of the greatest part of affiliate marketing is the way it can be combined with other daily activities or jobs. If you are new at this, the full-time job can be the source of the funds you can then invest in AM.
I do believe that based on your results and the given circumstances, if you will decide to focus ALL your efforts on promoting online you will be able to expand your experience and do the best from this project

If you need any tips or have queries for offers to run and more, you are more than welcome to PM me.

best,
ilana
