What happens to data if you change tracking software?

Hi there

If I decide to change tracking software, what are the consequences?

Is it easy to transfer the data? Does it pose a problem?

I wanted to test out a few trackers to see which best suits me, but I don't want that to cause my data to be invalid/non-transferable.

Thanks in advance

If you are using a self hosted tracker, you can backup your data and safe keep it.
If you are moving servers and going to use the same tracking software, you can restore from backups the data.
However, you cannot transfer data from one tracking to another in most cases because their database structure is different.

Thanks for the reply.

So i'm assuming it's highly advantageous to stick with one tracker if it's not self hosted?
Is backing up easy?

Do you have any recommendations for a complete beginner? I was thinking Voluum, but it seems that a high volume (lol) of visitors may get expensive, especially for pops.
At the beginning, I want to keep the costs pretty low so that I can put more money into traffic.

Thanks!
