Here We Go - First Campaign
[Follow Along] Mobile
Short and sweet. New Year New Goals.
... dive into Affiliate Marketing head first and come out on top.
Here is my first follow along. I think I may have taken action a bit too soon, without properly having the foundation to build upon. Here goes anyway.
I’ve had an account with goDaddy for a few years now so I set up prosper202 to have my own self hosted tracking. Not sure if goDaddy will be sufficient for everything I’ll eventually need to do but I’ll can tackle that later on.
Affiliate Networks
A4D - Approved (Have been communicating daily with my AM)
Addiliate - Approved
F5 Media - Pending
Adsimilis - Pending
Advertising Networks
Go2mobi - Approved
Tracking
propser202
I’ve read through Onboarding, The Mobile Cookbook - Appetiser, and currently 14 Days to Master Mobile Marketing.
First Campaign
Well I set this up too fast I think and blew through $60.00 real quick but it's okay it gave me plenty of data to go through, see how things run, make sure i can properly setup the links . I went through some of it today and narrowed things down.
Offer: A4D - Giveaway
Traffic: go2mobi
Geo: USA
Day 1. 12/24/2015

One banner that is outperforming the others substantially. I should really spend some more time researching how to make better creatives & landers so I can do more testing.

Day 4. 12/26/2015
Converted: 0
Spent: $6.74
Revenue: 0
Profit: ($6.74)
CTR: 1.11%
CPM: $1.52
Added another banner today. My CTR & CPM are definitely performing much better relatively speaking. I went through all the placements to see where was performing the best and blacklisted places that were eating up money but not sending anyone.
TO DO:
- Create more campaigns. I applied to a few more offers that are sweeps.
- Learn how to make landers. I now have Adobe Muse and went through the forums and found templates that will help.
- Apply to other traffic sources. See what else there is besides go2mobi.

You have already spent $60 without a conversion...a strategy would be to
A) add a similar offer from another network
B) get a spy tool, add many landers
C) run those landers on a ppv network ( chances are you might not be able to make it profitable buts that's ok, you will get good data on ur landers and a few might just stick out .if you make it profitable than try to scale it)
D) now take the landers that had the best ROI from your ppv traffic and create banners and angles around those lander and go back to go2mobi and run another test. Spend another $60.

**PAUSED**
Just launched a 2nd Campaign.
So I decided to take the advice and pause this campaign. Still no conversions. I started another campaign similar on another network. I've also gotten approved to F5 Media today so this is my 3rd Affiliate Network. Just found an offer in another vertical I think I may have a better chance at mastering.
I think I'm going to try and stick with mobile display/app installs right now and see if I can master this. I'mstarting to understand the basics of setting up a campaign. Looking through the data understanding how to optimize my target audience. I'm going to post here every single day as a part of me staying accountable.
I know this is a challenge and right now I don't care after reading the success stories, one thing everyone has in common. Unlike the average person they choose to look at their failures as opportunities to excel and move forward. Simply put the weather the storm and don't give up.
It's hard juggling my day job and this, but reading I think his name is Charles Ngo's story I saw he started out in the same situation so it's possible.
Spent all night making new creatives and watching videos on how to create landers with Muse. Just launched a third campaign with go2mobi with an f5 offer.

I have a problem if anyone can help. I sent a message over to my AM but I think he's out for the holiday weekend. I am setting up a few new offers using the cake platform on A4D.com and traffic on go2mobi . Each time I set up a campaign I follow the mobile cookbook - appetizers exactly word for word.
- Get my link
- Fix the ending &s1=campaignname&s2={clickid}
- Put it into go2mobi
- Get the conversion tracking link
- Fix the ending &clickid=#s2#&payout=#price#
- then post it into cake under testing and tracking.
The problem I'm having is that when I do this and test the offer it is tracking the click but not the conversion. Is this normal not to track conversions while in test mode or is it because I did something wrong. I went through the whole link to see if it converted on another page or step but no luck. Its suppose to convert on zip submit which is on the offer's lp.

Did you use a VPN for the GEO of the offer?
I had the same "problem" with another Cake platform. I used HMA to login to the offer's GEO, made a test lead and for whatever reason, the conversion didn't fire. I then asked my AM about this and he said they don't usually do test leads per affilaite's request, because they've tested the offer already and since it's currently converting for others, it means it works. I didn't like the answer, I really wanted to make a test conversion before I start sending traffic, but anyway, I setup the campaign based on trust. And the conversions fired ok.
Apparently, in my case the problem COULD have been that their system ignored leads from HMA's IPs. They probably have a list of IPs that they blacklisted for obvious reasons (this wasn't confirmed, it's just an assumption my AM and I made, after my test conversion didn't fire).
It's probably best to wait for your AM to reply to your email, though

You know that was my initial thought, that it was something to do with my IP. The thing is I am in the geo, and I tried it from my phone on lte to see if that might work still no go. I talked with my AM earlier today he said he thought it had to do with IP being block and said once he gets to his laptop he'll test it. I just worry that it's not and I am doing something wrong with all my campaigns and that I have wasted what I've spent thus far. I don't mind paying for data but if its incorrect then man that would suck. So i'll just wait for him.
In the meantime, I've spent the last 24 hours creating a TON of banners for two new campaigns and am awaiting approval on go2mobi (not sure why its taking so long this time weekend/holiday maybe) so while I wait for that I've been reading all the guides I can on making landers, plus went and reread the onboarding guides about tracking again. Also, I'm going to buy a spy tool i'm just so overwhelmed with the choices. I tried whatrunswhere it's cool but I think I am going to go with Adplexitey or MakeMassive.
Sorry the last two post aren't campaign updates. They are paused and I'm shifting to these new campaigns per recommendations. Just want to get in the habit of updating this everyday.

Okay so my AM and I cant figure out why the pixel isnt firing on any of my offers and I have followed word for word the mobile cookbook appetiser to set up my campaign on go2mobi.
I create a new campaign.
Get the link. hxxp://someurl.com/?a=478570&c=67147&s1=
Add campaign name and click id variable RTOWEB2&s2={clickid}
Copy the tracking conv. url. hxxp://someurl.com/pb/?api_key=wb2TasTW8LxTnshqHrYViunghqHTrwuxKMO32gabQ yfN4alnPYhLG8AOij8CfKiAO&clickid={clickid}&payout= {payout}
Change the ending from &clickid={clickid}&payout={payout} to &clickid=#s2#&payout=#price#
And then past the following link into Testing & Tracking correct?
hxxp://someurl.com/pb/?api_key=wb2TasTW8LxTnshqHrYViunghqHTrwuxKMO32gabQ yfN4alnPYhLG8AOij8CfKiAO&clickid=#s2#&payout=#pric e#
My target location is correct. I have spent 100+ and have had over 1000 clicks yet no conversion? He said he tested it an the pixel does not fire.

Update:
I got my first conversion and it feels amazing. I haven't updated in few days because I realized after reading so many threads, that it was a matter of the amount of work I put in. What I've done since:
- Bought a domain and hosting for prosper.
- Setup hosting for Landing Pages
- Bought a spytool. Tried WhatRunsWhere but decided to go with Adplexity.
- Spent days spying and reading.
I figured my problem was I really was just being lazy and thinking I'd be able to just throw up mediocre stuff not put much thought into it and it would work. I didn't listen to going with tier 2/3 geos I didn't read through about cutting banners. I didn't make any lps. It was just a disaster that really cost about $200 without any data I could use
This time I read the Mobile Cookbook - Appetiser, The Basics of Setting up Tracking, How Tracking Works, and alot of follow alongs in mobile from newbies like myself.
I switched offers. Now I am going with Sweep/Pops on mobile
Day 1
Offer: Sweep from F5
Traffic: Pops
LP: I am testing 3 different proven landing pages in this geos lang.
Spent: 1.20
Revenue: .80
Profit:
(.40)
But hey 3 weeks later and I got a conversion that only cost me $1.20 instead of no conversions that cost $200 this is progress.
One issue is that the post back url didnt fire in prosper because it didn't record the conversion only on the af network. I'll spend the next day looking into this. Also I just launched another campaign for this offer this time testing just dl it with out lander.
[Edit] Prosper did track the conversion it just took a few minutes wierd.

On Go2Mobi, were you running US by chance? I'm assuming you were because A4D has mostly US offers (not much mobile) and on day 6 you spent $4 for 11 clicks. There are very, very few mobile offers you will get profitable at $1 CPCs, especially not SOIs. So you did good to scrap that and move onto something else. I would suggest avoiding the US for now, it's not an easy geo to get started on.
I’ve had an account with goDaddy for a few years now so I set up prosper202 to have my own self hosted tracking. Not sure if
goDaddy will be sufficient for everything I’ll eventually need to do but I’ll can tackle that later on.
Do you mean a GoDaddy shared plan? I highly suggest you
do not get started on mobile pops with P202 on a GoDaddy shared account. At best, you'll lose a ton of clicks and have super slow redirects and at worst you'll crash your server.
Bare minimum, 2 core VPS for pops. And even that is cutting it close, so you'll definitely want an optimized LEMP stack to make sure you're getting the most out of it. You can get one at Linode for $20/mo. Zeno posted a LEMP stack script in the server section to help out with this.
I can't stress this enough man. Pops + P202 + shared hosting = recipe for disaster. I would honestly run without a tracker before I did that.
Good luck man. Keep us updated.

Yeah, I scrapped that I was jumping in without properly researching and following simple plans laid out for me here.

I realized this last night when things started not matching up. That's today's mission set up prosper202 on a dedicated server I'm just wondering if it would be smarter to use
Voluum or if that's just a simple solution for now but prosper202 would be a better solution further down the road. In any case thanks for the suggestions.

Day 2
LP1
- Spent: .50
- Revenue: .0
- Profit: .(.50)
- ROI: (100%)
LP1
- Spent: 1.03
- Revenue: .1.60
[*]Profit: .56 - ROI: 55%
LP3
- Spent: .49
- Revenue: .0
- Profit: (.49)
- ROI:(49)
I think I need to raise the bid cost. What I'm spending seems low right now it is at .001 I'm on PopCash so far it looks like LP 2 is doing the best.
Today:
Went with beyond hosting for server and cdn for prosper202 and landing pages. My order is pending so as soon as it is good to go I'll set it up. I already saw so many lost clicks with the little I've spent so far.
Need To Do:
Read more about bidding and how much I should be spending for testing compared to the offer payout for pops. And how to cut placements. I'm going through the pops/redir guide for newbies right now.

Much better setup. Which server did you go with? As long as you got one above the Starter VPS you should be in good shape. If budget allows I'd also suggest going with Litespeed. Makes a significant difference in tracker performance.
With mobile pops, speed is king and every millisecond counts. You might not think it's a big difference here, but in some geos where the connection is terrible, any little speed difference is magnified tremendously.

I'd strongly recommend upping your daily spend. Currently you're spending so little that you can't really draw any conclusions from your data - you're just getting random noise.
Looks like you're on that already, though. And you're probably better waiting until your new server is set up to start spending more.
Good work - looking forward to future updates!
