Hello guys,
I'm planning to start my first PPV campaign and now I'm setting up a few landing pages using optimizePress. I did some speed tests using pingdom and the loading speed is somewhere between 1.5 - 3 seconds for a 1.5mb page size in US. I don't use CDN yet and I have installed Quick Cache plugin. I'm using optimizePress because it's easier to set up everything but I am concerned regarding the loading speed.
Can you please tell me what loading speed should have a landing page when doing PPV? A two seconds loading time would be to much? Would I loose potential users with this loading speed?
Thanks
Less than 1s. Minify JavaScript html css and compress your images with kraken.io. Host on a CDN.
The most important factor regarding speed in my experience is the response time and how long it takes for the surfer to actually see something is happening/loading
The worst thing that can happen, is having the surfer eyes stare at white background for more than a "moment", thats an instant close. Whether an image at the bottom of the page loads in 0.3s or it takes 0.7 second, thats not so important anymore.
1.5mb for a landing page sounds a bit too much anyways, did you optimize the photos and graphics elements? CDN can help you to load the graphic/images faster too as thuglife suggested.
On a side note, is this a desktop or mobile campaign? Mobile traffic is more sensitive to loading speeds than desktop in my experience.
1.5mb is pretty damn big. Why's it so big?
run your site through this and see where you can improve:

Thanks guys. Well I don't know why the landing page has 1.5 mb. It has just a big headline, a bullet list with some text, an image of a book cover and the email input. I think the reason of being this big is because optimizePress runs on wordpress.
Anyway, using optimizePress for PPV is not a good idea I think. I talked with a guy from ZeroPark and he told me that for a maximum efficiency a landing page should load in 40 milliseconds. I recreated the same LP in HTML and I get a loading time somewhere around 400 miliseconds for a 350kb content. I have a VPS server with 4GB Ram.
Still, I'm looking for a way to improve even more the loading time to make it around 100 milliseconds.
Wordpress landing pages are too bloated to work well with PPV. 1.5MB is too large.
400miliseconds I would say is rather okay for you to start out. I've not seen a 40milliseconds landing page as far yet. Maybe that would be a really simple landing page with just a text headline, more body text and a optimized CTA button. Someone else could chime in on how to get it to 40milliseconds?
I would think your conversion rate difference should be minimal if its just improving from 400milliseconds to 300milliseconds. Working on your traffic source, choice of offer and angle would give you much more impact on conversions.
You can run your images through https://tinypng.com/ to shave some KB's too
400ms is just fine, of course its good to have the pages load as fast as possible, but 40ms? Thats absolutely not needed.
