Been in the game since 2008. So, certainly not my first million. This year has been different. New niche, new opportunities. CPA trial offers (muscle, diet, etc). In affiliate marketing, opportunities come without knocking and they leave without telling. This business is not a sustainable if you solely rely on paid traffic. This year the aim will be to build a traffic source (brand website, app, game, etc) which is more long term and FUN to work on.
Additionally, I'm setting up a my own CPA trial offer (similar to ones I promoted this year) which will be launched in early 2016. Did all the research on what is involved in setting up a trial product. Lot of pieces involved including 6 figure capital to start. I'm in toronto, canada, so the setup of getting bank accounts and mids in the US is taking some time without a US cosigner. (Unfortunately, there is no merchant processing company in Canada who offer high risk credit card processing for continuity based trial products. If anyone of you know one, I would love to hear about it.). All the other pieces are ready to go. So, hopefully 2016 is going to be a year of shift from being an affiliate to an advertiser.
p.s. if anyone wants to know the legitimately of my earning claims, I would be happy to have my AM verify it.
Any pointers for the niche you are in?
I hope to be writing the exact same post as you by this time next year.
I do agree with a long term sustainable niche/business and not soley rellying on paid traffic. That is where my core is going to be then work outward.
Cheers

Good new guys: I received a call from my bank today the out business bank account in the US is approved and open. Big hurdle out of the way.
Getting a bank account in the US is easy compared to a MID without a USA cosigner. Good luck mate, you're gonna need it
Webdev,
I may have a solution especially if we are talking FB traffic. skype me: ygilkey
Good luck with the new venture. What niche are we talking about, and is it mobile / desk?
Another year (2016) another million in revenue. Again, different niche this time. Bizopp/Binary and mostly CPL. ROI about the same, 50%-55%, as in 2015.
I mentioned I would start something long term, like niche content site and turn it into BIG media company. Well, that didn't happen. Actually, that train never even left the station...lol.
However, what did happen was I started my own skin trial campaign as an advertiser like I mentioned in my original post. Took about 1.5 years to put it together because I started with zero knowledge in trial/continuity space as a merchant. The offer finally launched month and a half ago. Still in initially stages. About 200k in investment (media cost, merchant accounts, products, etc, etc). Hiccups as usual (like with any new business). It is a learning process still. Very interesting business model. Very much different from aff marketing. Instead of spending time on the computer you spend most of time on skype or phone talking to vendors, networks, call center, developers, etc, etc (and pissing some of them off because they don't like the way I negotiate...lol) and not to menton paying invoices in thousands of dollars on weekly basis...lol
Set up a free trial offer and monetize it with LT subsription flows. And make sure you have good upsells and x-sells in the pipeline.
Big affiliates in the nutra space mostly run free trial offers that work on a subscription basis. As an advertiser you have the risk here that the user unsubs before you started billing him - hence you paid out affiliate commissions before making any money. So its very important you work with trusted sources and manage and optimize traffic quality on a subid level. If you don't want to do that go for a straight sale offer.
Make sure you set up your supply chain so that you can ship to more than just the US where you'll have soooo much competition. If you can ship to countries like Canada, Mexico, Brazil, France, UK, you'll have so much more potential and affiliates to work with
