Creating A Multi-Lander Campaign With FunnelFlux

If you've been testing out or using the new tracking tool FunnelFlux recently, you'll know it's something really interesting in AM: a genuinely new approach to tracking.

It's the first tracker to use the kind of "node-based" system that is very common in the visual effects or game development world, but is very new to AM.

FF's "node-based" approach makes it tremendously powerful - I'm very excited about it as a new tool - but it also makes it somewhat tricky to get to grips with if you're not used to this kind of interface.

So here's the first of a series of tutorials on how to get the most out of FunnelFlux, and use it to do things that many other trackers find very difficult.

In This Tutorial

We'll look at a setup that's very simple to do in FF, but very hard in many other trackers - a multiple landing page funnel.

So rather than one landing page, we'll go through how to set up a funnel using 2, 3 or more landers. You can use as many landers and as many stages as you like.

You can use this to combine a grabby "pre-sell" page with a more detailed second lander, to individually test questions for a quiz or a rules lander, or even to present the user with multiple offers, one after another.

What You'll Need

You will need:

And that's it! You won't need to know how to code - all of the setup is done in a very intuitive, graphical way.

Part 1: Preparation

Firstly, go to "Your Links" on the top menu of FunnelFlux, and copy your "Funnels' Action Clicks URL" by clicking on the "Copy" button.

Replace all CTA links in your landers (basically anything that you want to stay in the funnel, go to another lander or to your offer) with this URL. For now, replace "ACTION_NUMBER" in each link you create with "1".

Also, if you want to set up a postback from your affiliate network, use the postback URL from here as usual (see our postbacks and pixels guide

Now, set up your Traffic Source. Click on Sources in the top menu, then Traffic Sources. Click "New Traffic Source". You only need to fill in the Traffic Source Name here.

If you want to set up a traffic source postback, just select "Postback URL" under "Fire Conversions Back to the Traffic Source".

If you want to set up tokens for your traffic source, put the name you'd like to use in "Tracking Field Name in URL" and the traffic source's token for that information in "Tracking Token from Traffic Source". For example, here's how I'd set up Go2Mobi's ISP token:

Once you're done setting your traffic source up, click "Save Traffic Source" at the top right to save it.

TIP: Create another traffic source called "Testing" here. You can use that to test your funnel without messing your stats up!

Next, set up your offer source - your network, usually - by clicking on "Sources", then "Offer Sources", then "New Offer Source". You only need to fill a name in here. Click "Save Offer Source" at the top right to save.

Finally, set up your landers and the offer you'll be using.

To create your landers, click on "Pages", then "Flux Landers", then "New Flux Lander". Unless you're doing something clever here, you'll only need to enter the name of the lander and the URL. Then either click "Save Lander" or "Save Lander Then Create New One" (great little bit of UI!) if you have more landers to create.

To create your offer in FunnelFlux, go to "Pages", then "Flux Offers", then "Create New Offer". Fill in the name and the URL from your affiliate network. You can add custom tokens from the dropdown menu to the right: the one you'll almost certainly want for postbacks is {hit-id}, which is your subid. Hit "Save Offer" in the top right to continue.

OK, that's all the prep work done - now for the cool bit.

Part 2: Building Your Funnel

Go to "Campaigns", then click "New Campaign", and name your campaign. Click "Save Campaign".

Now, we create a Funnel. A Funnel is a sequence of pages that your visitors will go through - it can include filtering, split-testing, and as many landers and offers as you like.

There can be multiple Funnels in a single campaign, so you can, for example, have all your angles for one offer running as different funnels within that Offer's campaign. We'll just start with one for now - hit "New Funnel".

Name your funnel, and hit "Save Funnel". FunnelFlux will work for a bit and then present you with a screen with a single node - your Traffic Node:

What we're going to do now is create "nodes" for each of our landers and our offer, then tell FunnelFlux how we would like it to link them up.

Right-click just below the "Traffic Source" node. You'll see this menu come up:

Select "Add Flux Landers", and an input box will come up. You can click in that box to get a list of your landers, or type in it to narrow your landers down.

Pick the lander you want first in the funnel, and click on it. Now you'll see something like this:

You can drag either of those boxes anywhere you like on the screen. Your funnel can go in any direction you like, too - left-to-right, right-to-left, top-to-bottom. Vertically, it'll also resize as you add elements.

Now comes the magical bit. To sell FunnelFlux that you'd like to send traffic from your traffic source to your first lander, click on the orange circle in the "Traffic Source" box, and drag it down to the orange circle in the lander's box:

You've just created a simple campaign! Click "Save Funnel".

To test it out, right-click on "Traffic Source", and choose "Send Traffic Here". Choose your "Testing" traffic source in the box that appears, and copy the URL. When you enter it into a Web browser, you'll see you're immediately taken to your first lander.

OK, now let's add the remaining elements. Add your second lander the same way as you added the first, and connect it by dragging from the first lander's orange circle to the second one.

Now, add your offer. Just right-click in empty space again, choose "Add Flux Offer" rather than "Add Flux Lander", choose your offer, and then connect it up by dragging from the second lander.

You should end up with something like this:

Now click "Save Funnel".

And that's your funnel ready to go! If you right-click on "Traffic Source" and choose "Send Traffic Here" again, you'll be taken to your first lander. As you click through, you'll then go step-by-step through the funnel you just created - just as your visitors will.

Finally, right-click "Traffic Source", choose "Send Traffic Here", and choose your intended traffic source, then copy your URL. You can now copy that into your traffic source of choice to send visitors to your landing page.

Part 3: Doing More

We've only just scratched the surface of Funnel Flux's potential here, so here are a few more things to try once you've done the very basics:

Use The Great "Flowchart" Reporting Mode: In addition to standard tracking-style reporting, FunnelFlux has a great "Heatmap" graphical reporting mode where you can see how your traffic's coming in just as you'd view your funnel normally. Simply go to your campaign, then click on the "Edit Campaign" button, then on the "Heatmap" button:

You can now see your campaign's stats just as the funnel's laid out in your funnel editing mode:

If you want to split-test: Just add a "Rotator" node from the same menu as the offers and the landers, then set up two or more parallel paths from there. You can drag the line from the Rotator node to as many different landers or offers as you want, and it'll rotate between them.

If you want to redirect based on device type, location, ISP, etc: From the same menu as Offers and Landers, select "Advanced", then select "Add Condition". I'll do a tutorial on Conditions at a future time, but most experienced affiliates won't find it too hard to figure out the basics!

If you want to offer your visitors multiple paths - you can drag a second, third, fourth and so on arrow from each of your landers. These will then take visitors off on new paths if they click the second, third, fourth and on "Action" URLs. To define an "Action 2" URL in your page, just replace "ACTION_NUMBER" in your Action URL with "2" rather than "1" - so you should end up with a URL that ends in "flux_action=2". Likewise, Action 3's URL will end in "flux_action=3", and so on.

And that's it! I hope that was useful. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please do let me know below!

Excellent guide Caurmen!

The GUI makes it much more easier to create and track longer funnels.

How's the redirection speed Caurmen? Great guide.

I can reply to this one.

We've used blitz.io to run some comparative tests between FunnelFlux and Thrive.
Both trackers are installed on the same 12 CPU server + 32GB RAM. The campaign is a direct linking one and the GEO is being detected and added as a token to the target URL.

The test tries to reach 1000 concurrent users after 1 minute. To put things on perspective, 1000 concurrent users is the equivalent of 86 millions visitors per day.

Spoiler: Neither FunnelFlux, nor Thrive were able to reach that on this specific server.

Here are the results...

Funnel Flux Analysis:

Thrive Analysis:

As you can see, FunnelFlux can handle almost 3 times more redirects per day.

Funnel Flux Timeouts:

Thrive Timeouts:

FunnelFlux started to timeout when it reached 541 concurrent users, while Thrive started to timeout when it reached 374 concurrent users.

Funnel Flux Response Times:

Thrive Response Times:

Several things here.

FunnelFlux's response time remained under 500ms until the 18s mark, while Thrive remained under 500ms until the 12s mark.
FunnelFlux's response time remained under 1s until the 25s mark, while Thrive remained under 1s until the 15s mark.

After 22s, Thrive was dead and all redirects timed out.
After 33s, FunnelFlux timed out too, but you can see near the end of the test that it recovered. Meaning it was not dead, just overloaded.
This is an important distinction - when the traffic volume decreases, an overloaded server comes back to normal while a dead server requires a manual action and cannot redirect any more visitor.

And lastly:

Been saying consistently. Best self-hosted tracker around. That is a from a real user laying straight up.

Kudos Vita on a great product!

Hello guys, we created a mastermind for Funnel Flux :-) Pm if you wanna join ! Happy new year btw!

Hi I'm Matt and am essentially a tech caveman.

Wanted to give vitavee and Funnel Flux props because a few weeks ago I locked myself out of funnel flux and/or botched my server's directory structure while trying to do fancy htacess stuff. I submitted a ticket and they literally logged into my server and undid my mess (sorry and thank you).

Also this is my first post on STM so....hello!

, yeah they are awesome and hello to you too :-)

Thanks Caurmen! I'd be curious to see that test being run with a timeout higher than 2000ms, just to know how high the redirect speeds actually get under max load.

This tracker looks very promising, so I'm tempted to fire up a test server and run some benchmarks as well.
