The diary of two hustlers vol. 3 - Building a list because grown up people do so!

Alright gangsters, most likely you got linked here trough our other Follow-Along. In case you didnt, heres some info about the crazy idiots you are about to deal with.

We are 2 guys from germany and got balls deep into AM in June, 2015. Trying to make things work as full time marketers with quite some success. For some people this might look like good results, but this is far away of where we want to be - like super far away.

Our background is in mobile CPI and subscription offers, but we went trough a lot of shit in this short period of time. IT started with profitable offers going down, following with getting kicked off offers because of bad lead quality and finally getting refused a payment of $6000 - enough of this shit. We dont want to rely on any other things out of our control, we want to manage it all ourself, not dealing with trafficsources, leadquality or non payments anymore. Email marketing seems to be a good fit for this. In addition, you grow a business and asset, which you can acutally sell. We wanna have millions before we are 30, so its the only way to build something big, take the exit and bank $15 mil in one day - should somewhat be enough to live the life we imagine. 6 more years to go, so lets see how we can make it work, hehe.

As for now, we have absolutely no idea about email marketing, neither have a high budget to go crazy with, so we need to be reasonable and work our asses off. Just did a bit of reading and putting it together like a puzzle, but to be honest we are lost as fuck, haha. THe only thing we know is that we NEED to build a list. So in the follwing post we will explain our plan and would be more than happy to hear some feedback.

PS: please do us a favor, and as soon as u catch being lazy or having the shiny object syndrome, give us a nice hint how retarded we are and bring us back to email marketing - much appreciated!

Alright guys, so heres the options and thoughts. We would highly appreciate it if you could push us into the right direction to get started!

General Gameplan:

Since all of this seems logical and sounds easy, I know this will be a hard grind. So for now we will create a trash mail and signup to any possible newsletter out there and just get ideas and try to learn from the pros! Ofcourse we will spend time to learn how to write strong ad copy etc. The main problem will be getting the list itself. So we have 2 options in mind, we dont know whats the most effective for the start tho.

Option 1: Facebook leadgen hustling

Option 2: PPV Keyword hustling

Personally we think FB is the way to go, the only thing we are struggeling with is, how much leads are we aiming for? We dont want to spew too much budget upfront, in case this shit bombs totally. So we kinda thought of getting leads worth $1000 on FB, which will be around 1000 subscribers. But that seems quite low. Can we still work with this?

We could save up some cash by offering them a clickbank offer right away, after subscribing, but it seems better to build trust by not selling them some shit right away. What would you recommend?

Will be following this one guys, its something i've been thinking about lately.

Have you thought about the types of offers you are going to be targeting?

Will you be going for generic targeting and then hitting them with sweepstake type offers or you going more niche?

I would say the best way to do this would be to offer something really cheap on the front end just to cover the cost of the traffic. Even if its like an ebook worth $4.99 from Clickbank or something.

Alright guys, all the planning is pretty much done. We found a super awesome niche, which has enough volume available to scale and allows us to keep up a relationship with our subscribers for many many years! Best for this will be the Facebook leadgen, simply because of better targeting options. We gonna take the same approach as vitavee did in this awesome thread!

Plan is to create a contest, where the users can win something, but we are still not sure, if we should promote the CPA offer already on the thank you page or should wait. What would you recommend to do?
Also, if we make a contest, do we actually need to prove that someone has won something? I wouldnt mind if its a relatively cheap product, but I think something more expensive could attract more clicks and leads. Does someone have experience with this?

What we are about to do:

I catch myself way too often just reading and not acting, so its time to get some shit done now, hope we will have all ready by friday!

Wouldn't use mailchimp to build a list, they don't like affiliates too much. There is an inherent risk of getting your account/list suspended.

So what would you use? Im using Mailchimp, our list is > 60k so far no problems. But im not promoting hardcore affiliate yet

I use Aweber until I need to send bulk. MC isn't too happy with affilliates, if you get a lot of complaints they will nerf you.

Three words for collecting leads with FB - Facebook Lead Ads. No landers required. This is HUGE.

In a very niched niche I am getting 30 people sign up per day for just $5 per day.

Wow, that is pretty awesome. Do you see any big difference regarding opening or conversionrates? Is it also possible to link it to aweber or does fb store them for you?

Wow, this is exactly what I've been reading about here lately. Even though I've only run a few mobile campaigns, I'm planning something like this but in a different vertical. Would love to hear any updates.
