Hi guys, I am starrting my first campaigns in AM and I stuck with some problems.
I started an adult campaing around one month ago in traffic junky.
I started using direct linking, and investigating landing pages. With direct linking, using the best banners I got ROI around -10%, so I started to use landing pages, but the convertions fall to 0, and the negative ROI got worse...
Resuming:
Banners tested over 20, filtered down to 5 best performing
LP1, own creation, 1 click same design af final offer
LP2, multiples clicks questions to engage customers, LP spy from targeted sites
LP3, few clicks thru questions LP spy from targeted sites
CPC
Average CPC around 0.07 Average EPC (direct linking) 0.06, Average EPC (with LPs) 0.02
LPs not only didnt improve performance but they made it worse
SO, question is:
- If it possible that adult offers works better with direct linking?
- Looks like the convertion rate to turn these campaigns into profits should be over 8%, is that posible with direct linking? or any ideas on how to improve this with another kind of LP.
Thanks
Is it possible that the offer works better direct? Yes.
But if its performing worse using LPs then maybe your LPs arent very good? Describing the LPs doesnt really help if we cant see them.
Its possible to get a CR higher than 8% using direct linking but is it possible with this offer?
Maybe this offer isnt right for you. What made you choose it? Ask your AM how other affiliates are running it and what is the CR they get.
In order to give you some valuable input, can you give us the following information
1. URL
2. Description of conversion point
3. Country
4. Traffic sources that are (not) allowed to promote the campaign
With that info, you'll get way more valuable input and feedback from everyone out here to improve the performance of your offer(s)
Thanks for the feedback

As for the chosen LPs they came from spying in the specific spot/geo/language/offer selected for the promotion, the previous research showed that 90% of the offers promoted in those specific spots had virtually the same LPs, so upon that I added 2 other variations just for the test... and my surprise was that none of the 3 LPs, the ones successfully running on those spots and the new ones, NONE o them did better than direct linking, in fact they made the conversion rate to drop drastically... so it doesnt look as a LP design problem but most like direct linking just works better and simpler... less clicks for the user, less distractions and the fastest you get the email submit... that is what results showed, even though it goes against all the advises I have read in this forum about the importance of setting a LP.
The selection of the offer came indeed from the advise of the Network in relation to higher CR and EPC.
@cbrughmans
The geo is GE, mobile traffic only and traffic sources were Traffic Junky and Exoclick for 300x250 banners (300x100 tested also) and Zero Park for pops, but the results described are for the banners tests.
I should mention that I did a first improvement in CR from 1-2% to over 5% with the banners tests/filtering by choosing only those which match the design of the final offer.
So banners design did helped but LPs really worked against me.
Thats why Im trying to get some feedback from the experienced affiliates here to see if this might eventually be normal or it is just stats out of the charts (but it was quite a extended test, collected over 5000 clicks in around 3.000.0000 impressions in total CTR 0.17%).
How fast are your pre landers loading? They need to be FAST! Especially if its mobile traffic.
A pre-lander can be very good but if he isnt FAST it will kill your CTR.
Did I mention it needs to be FAST?
But I will say again that an offer can convert better with direct linking. Its not unheard of.
0.17 banner ctr is very very low, with at least 3x that ctr that is the minimum you should aim for, you would have had 3x those clicks to test you prelanders etc. Unless the low ctr banners drive an extremely high cr%, I would start improving there.
Have also on mind that ecp=impressions*ctr*cr*cpa
As you can see, it's a directly proportional rule, ctr cr and cpa affect the result on the same proportion, and what do you think it's easier? To reach a 2x raise in the ctr, the cr or the cpa?
imho you should work in that order, improve ctr, then cr and then cpa (the last one only possible once you push enough volume to negotiate)
@ affiliaxeroan
Thats a good point man, unfortunately I have no clue how fast it is, I lack that technical skill to evaluate if it is fast... it looks fast enough to me but not sure how much of a difference can be made...
@ ivancy
I made the same assumption about the apparent low CTR, if I would get 2-3X higher then I would make this campaign profitable.
So in order to improve the CTR I played extensively by testing several banners/sites/spots... At the point banners were improve to the maximum possible, then I started testing sites and spots, and I got some "good" CTRs of around 0.8-1.5% in some sites/spots that did not produce a single conversion (or very few), on the other hand (as you mention) very low CTRs as 0.08-0.2% on most popular sites produced good conversions, so at the end the contribution to ROI, which is the most important factor here, was better with lower CTRs than with higher CTRs.
So at this point I dont know what other variable is left to test :/
