Hi
My second stint on STM.
Keen to run some PPC offers from Ringpartner using adwords.
I've chosen Empire Today as it's in the top 5 campaigns on RP. Also like the brainstorming of the product and the lack of photoshop skills needed!
Submitted my ad but it was rejected because the number wasn't working so waiting for RP to get back to me. I created the number here: http://awesomescreenshot.com/03c5e33v00
So far I've:
Brainstormed keywords that can be used for ad copy and search keywords
Created a lander (well amended the one given on RP) although I'll be using call only ad on adwords.
Will post more details as I launch.
Hey man! Welcome back!
Looking forward to the updates.
Hey - I just started this campaign yesterday as well! I'm interested to see how you / we do!
@vpaidi I initially used the same lander but on another domain.
@btcmethod great. maybe we can "mastermind" together? Drop me a message with your skype if you keen.
Turns out Google policy is that the phone number must be in normal html and not only in images/buttons hence my ad was disapproved. I called Adwords and they pointed this out. The ads are now approved so will see what happens.
Will be testing with £50/day or £1500/month
Aiming for 3 conversions per day
I'm thinking to lose £1500 in the first month to gather some data
If I hit 7 consecutive days of 0 ROI I'll pause and reassess.
The ads are call only.
I've signed up to unbounce and using that to make the lander although not totally sure if call only is actually only calls or if its possible to get to the lander?
Adgroups will focus on carpet and flooring types + words like cost price, repair benefits etc. I'm trying to keep the funnel as targeted as possible so each ad group has one type of carpet for keywords with related ad copy and matching lander.
Using Keyword planner cpc should be around 0.70p so at £50/day about 71 clicks of which I want 2-3 to convert or 4%. I'm not sure if this is realistic or not at this stage.
Sure thing - I'll drop you a message in a little while.
Yep i read about the lack of landing page last night and that it is only used to verify the phone number.
It makes the ad copy and keyword list even more crucial.
I assume if you don't get some decent clicks from the outset you're pretty much fighting an uphill battle.
I've run empire for a week...spent about $400 and only few conversions, so i've paused...keywords that matter are really expensive...so i don't know how this one could become profitable even if it have a good payout.
I've tried different angles but with no luck. For example i've tried to bid on keywords about "dust allergy" and having the ad text saying something like "Carpet make allergies worst! Install allergy-free flooring..."
I've tried even using local business name that i've scraped from google: cheaper keywords, higher ctr, but call there didn't convert.
It would be nice to share some keywords strategy together here...
ok interesting.
Might be worth setting up a small Skype Mastermind where we can share info. Message me your Skype if you keen.
This can't be that difficult to crack! (famous last words of a broke newbie!)
12 day update:
Spend: £525.55
Revenue: $63 (3 conversions)
ROI: -88%
Total calls: 37 so a 9% conversion rate.
I did a lot of brainstorming around the offer to understand the carpet and flooring types. Thought closely about the user intent as I think it's crucial with a call only ad. Impressions was slow to start as I wasn't bidding high enough so upped my cpc to £9.50 just to get some data. I burned through cash with broad carpet terms with no conversions and the product specific terms didn't get many impressions.
I then paused all those ad groups and looked at another bunch of KWs. Surprisingly (to me!) they converted and a pattern emerged with the keywords that were being searched. No secret here just hyper local long tail.
I'm currently launching everyday to understand if my initial findings were valid. If i targeted only the converted KWs, which are very similar, this would be a green campaign (i know that sounds ridiculous) so let's see if I can get some green days.

I've been playing with the offer for a while and you can it's not profitable.
Things I've learned/tried:
- most of the searched terms are geo related eg carpet installation denver
- Thur/Fri/Sat appear to convert best
- I've tried a couple geo specific campaigns but no joy
- Need to bid over £6 to get any decent impressions but even then it's not huge.
- Going Modified Broad on high volume seems to convert best eg +Carpet + Installation
- Flooring terms have very bids
Keen to get any thoughts on these stats and happy to answer questions.
I'm new to AM and new to the forum, but I have a lot of experience with Google Adwords (it's currently my day job). Have you built a good, large list of negative keywords or tried dog whistling quality calls out in the ad copy?
Hey mike, my negative keywords did grow sa i ran the campaign. Before christmas I paused the campaigns. Will be restarting some other offers soon.
Did you ever restart this campaign? Home services does well this time of year in general, you might want to try solar? We have a really strong solar offer right now that fits the same homeowner demographic.
Not sure if you're still running PPCall but I've been testing it a lot lately. Google Adwords --> PPCall offers on RingPartner.
I've spent $300is so far. Weird thing is I got $40 worth of conversions within my first $50 spend. I was like, YES WINNER! But then, the next $200, not a single conversion.
Same keywords. In fact I was running a lot more traffic because my CPC had dropped considerably.
I have no idea what happened, especially when it was 4 conversions within a $50 spend. Almost 40% conversion rate.
Anyway, I've realised ppcall is a whole different game. There are plenty of angles to test but you also have to remember that there's a call threshold to when a payment triggers. I generate a lot of calls but 90% don't make the 2 minute threshold.
Seems it has to do with keywords.
I found things like 'affordable plumber', 'low cost plumber', etc would get a great click to call but the call wouldn't last more than 30 seconds! Maybe they just wanted to ask a simple question and that's all.
I'm going to try some more 'discussion friendly' keywords like 'plumber advice' or something that you need to be on the phone for more than 2 minutes.
I still have a lot to learn but I think after 1-3k spend you should have a lot covered.
Also, negative keywords are a must. I don't get useless impressions and my high CTRs drop my costs from $5.00 to sometimes under $2.00.
Good luck with your camps
