Can anyone shed some light on this? I know its possible to have banners display in different geos now. but how is this accomplished?
you will need an ad-server! for adult there are limited possibilities. you can setup your own adserver based on open source software: www.revive-adserver.com (in this case, dont forget to host your image files on a CDN). or google for a hosted/cloud solution. https://www.m3server.com/services/adserver/ is cheap to get started. not sure how good their server is though.
one more option -> many affiliate networks/programs provide you an ad-code (iframe/flash...). their system will handle the banner delivery and they will link to their offer(s).
cool thanks ivocado! is an adserver different from my hosting? if i already have hosting can i use that server instead?
