$100,000.00 in 6 Months - Every day is mobile marketing day. (51)

$100,000.00 in 6 Months - Every day is mobile marketing day.

*warning: autism ahead!*

A little about me ...

...28 years old, ex professional poker player. At my height, I was making $14,000.00 CAN a month.

Played $5/10 NL in Las Vegas, saw Doyle Brunson rolling in his wheel chair while wearing a grey wig. I did various touristy things like shooting guns and driving a Lamborghini around a race track.

Played $50/100 HKD NL (roughly about $8/16 CAN) in Macau with Chinese business men and degenerates. Macau is baller. Good food, too.

I took a vacation for 2 months, mostly in Japan drinking beer and hanging out with friends - by hanging out with friends, I mean fornicating.

2.5 years ago, before embarking in my poker career, I promised myself that I will play poker professionally, live the fun "baller" lifestyle and then drop everything to do affiliate marketing.

(because, even ought poker is fun, I'm still trading time for money. And I didn't want to spend the next 30 years grinding away at the poker table)

... so now it's 2.5 years later, I completely stopped playing poker and now I'm diving head first into mobile marketing.

I have some experience with SEO and email marketing but no PPC.

So - let's go?

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day #1/180

Making money is fun.

So here’s my goal: make $100,000.00 in 6 months (180 days) with mobile affiliate marketing.

Sounds lofty? Maybe.

But I had made $14,000 CAD a month playing poker, so nothing is out of reach for a determined person.

I had made money with affiliate marketing but haven’t tried mobile marketing – so we’ll see how it goes.

It’s almost November – in six months time, it will be April (just in time for tax season …)

When April rolls around, I will be glad I started this mobile marketing journey.

I’m full of hope now – but I will be in a world of pain, sleepless nights and frustration.

What I did today:

Watched youtube vids on mobile marketing.

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 2/180

What I did today:

Signed up and paid for a tracker (Voluum.com), the cheapest option is $99 / month.
Signed up and paid for a new domain name to use with the tracker – $12 / year
Signed up and paid for a VPS (virtual private server) at $33 a month. I called the company at 6:00 PM so they can approve and set up my VPS but apparently it’s going to be until tomorrow until I can get access to the VPS.

Everything I signed up for is mandatory, I’m boot strapping this operation

I have about $80 in decisive.is.

I got got my tools lined up – a CPA network (neverblue ads), a traffic platform (decisive.is), a tracker (Voluum.com), a VPS (virtual private server) … now I just need to take action by driving traffic to the offer.

What needs to get done:

How to create a mobile lander page
How to actually FTP my files into VPS (should be easy … )
Connect my newly bought domain name to the VPS
Create banners at decisive.is, get it approved, and drive traffic to the banner, use voluum to analysis the data
Get at least one conversion …

Conclusion:

I got all my tools lined up – now I just need to get my feet wet by creating a banner, creating a landing page (fudge – maybe even try direct linking …), driving traffic using decisive.is and see how my offers convert.

Waiting for my VPS to go live – feels good man.

See you tomorrow in space, cowboy …

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 3/180

What I did today:

So, I ordered the VPS for $33 – I realized that it doesn’t have cpanel. So I tried to installed the zpanel (a freeware of cpanel) and set up a web server but this is just too complicated.

What did I do?!

So I asked the web hosting company for a refund, then I went to another web hosting company and paid $55 for a VPS + cpanel … and now my VPS is up and running, baby!

… except I have to figure out how to set up my domain name by pointing the DNS.

I remember about those sleepless nights getting things up and running – this is it … it’s midnight and I’m going to work through out the night.

What needs to get done:

Set everything up, so my domain name is working, so the VPS is working.

Next step is to “spy” on the competition by downloading apps, see what they’re running and copy them.

I’m only picking one vertical – video games. And only 1 country – Canada.

Very tight focus.

Let’s see how it goes.

Thoughts:

Dirty confession: During my poker career, I tried to squeeze in mobile marketing but I did nothing for a year – I had a VPS that cost me $250 USD, I paid in advance and did nothing with it …

… I told myself “I will do it another day”.

It has been 16 months (!) since I last did anything related to mobile marketing, now it’s time to pick it up.

… whatever I do, I must not give up.

For ever obstacle I encounter, I must go around it by Googling the answer, ask IRC for help, lurk the forum and ask for help, think for myself etc.

But.

I must take action every day and get to $100,000.00 USD in 6 months.

It’s Halloween and most people my age are going to the clubs, dressed up to get laid.

You know what I’m doing this weekend? Stay home and work.

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 4/180

What I did today:

Website isn’t working – I had to go on NameCheap.com online tech support and asked around and read the tutorial. Now I have to wait up to 24 hours for the DNS to propagate.

Found out that my router had a problem and was not the DNS, reset the router and everything is good to go

Joined STM forum at $138 per month (weak Canadian dollars …)

What needs to get done:

Launch a campaign, ASAP. I need to get my feet wet.

Thoughts:

It’s Saturday morning.

The first thing I did when I woke up was drink coffee and go on NameCheap.com tech support to help me out and worked on resolving the DNS for the past 45 minutes.

~ Never confuse reading with doing ~

I remember listening to SmartPassiveIncome podcast, and there was a subscriber who said: “Thank you for the podcast … I listened to your podcast every day for 6 months and now I started my own blog, just like yours.”

I cringed.

Because I made the same mistake.

The mistake was … too much reading, not enough doing.

Too much reading without action means wasted time and money.

On the flip side, too much doing without a strategy is wasted effort.

Note to self: take smart actions, like a military strategist.

** Today is Halloween night, currently 9:14 PM. I will work until 4:00 AM or whenever I pass out.

Best of Luck

I suggest you to include some short-term goals, for example: Create your first 10$/Day profit constantly campaign.
It's hear so basic but we don't do it. It can be also 20$/day etc.. That's not the point.
I heard somewhere that when you start somethings new, for example: affiliate, training etc..
One of the best thing you can do is to achieve somethings that will separate you from the average guy.

When people start training, everybody talks about achieve a fitness model physique.
The problem is that the average guy can't even train for 6 months constantly.
When people start affiliate, everybody talks about making millions online,
The problem is the average guy can't even earn income for 6 months constantly .

hope this helps

First of all, welcome to STM!

I recommend you to start with a "Cloud site" of VPS.net, it cost 20$ monthly and are very powerfull, the best part is that it includes cPanel and comes with every the setup ready so you only have to change the DNS of your domain pointing to this new server and you are ready (it comes with all web server software installed) to start uploading your files via FTP!

Ah, as it's a "Cloud service" you will have your server ready in minutes! I'm more than 4 yours working with VPS.net and I can guarantee they are legit

Your history is similar as mine, I told myself on January I will start with Aff Marketing but always my eagerness to read and train a lot was stronger than my desire to take action and if you really want to succeed in this business one of the keys is to TAKE ACTION. So last month I discovered STM and decided to join, it has been one of the best decisions. I have learned 400% more in last 3 weeks than all what I read from January to September.

Now I'm trying to learn how to use Voluum effectively and for that I would like to recommend you this sites:

http://iamattila.com/category/voluum-tutorial
http://charlesngo.com/voluum/
http://www.lukepeerfly.com/voluum-tracking
http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...-Read-This-Now

The first one is from a nice member of STM, iAmAttila, you should subscribe to his newsletter, you will receive valued information for a good start.

And you can't forgot to see this post: http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...light=stmrocks there you have an excellent FULL video guide to have an idea about how to use Voluum with Decisive

I hope this "index" can help you to have the clearest path

Let's go for those great conversions!

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 5/180
Date: Nov 01, 2015

What I did today

1. Applied to 8 offers that isn't opened to the public.

2.Watched 25 minutes of http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...light=stmrocks - learned what are tokens/macros. Practiced inserting tokens in Voluum, and using Voluum's post back URL for conversion tracking.

I'll spend 25 minutes per day learning Voluum until I get it pat down.

3. Followed Caurmen's The Mobile Cookbook: The Appetiser, submitted 4 banners to Decisive.is, waiting for approval on Monday. If it gets approved, I will submit 4 more.

I'm promoting a dating offer that emphasis on middle class - upper middle class demographic.

The angle is ... "rich guy looking for relationship".

I'll also geo city target ...

"Richest guy in <ZXY city> looking for relationship
- are you the one? Fill out this form and let's meet up"

I use "Fill out this form" as a pre-qualifier, so the user knows exactly what she's doing before she taps on the banner.

Now I need to get the ads approve and see if it converts.

What needs to get done

1. Learn how to use Voluum tracker like the back of my hand
2. Network with people on STM, and add new friends on skype. (Hi, Darko)
3. Keep submitting banners 320x50 banners on Decisive, try my hands on dating vertical and gaming vertical only.

Thoughts

Popular adage: it's a marathon, not a sprint. (that's what average people tell other average people)

Screw that.

Entrepreneurship is a marathon and a sprint.

How does Elon Musk run two, multi-billion dollars company con-currently? Because he has a sick, hardcore work ethic.

Average people work 40 hours a week.

Elon Musk works 80-100 hours a week and leverage other people's time and talent. And thus, you get Tesla and Space X.

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 6/180
Date: Nov 02, 2015

What I did:

1. Got 3 campaigns approved on Decisive.is ... however I get absolutely no traffic. There seems to be no bids. There is something wrong with the Smart CPM and I need to fix it.

I sent Decisive an email asking to look over my campaign, why isn't it bidding (LOL)

A STM member (Hi, Badimo) was nice enough to point me to this thread http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...x-It-Like-This

What needs to be done:

1. Actually get traffic from Decisive, need to see dat conversion

Thoughts:

I spent 5 nights staying up late at night trying to get the campaign running (it's 1:12 am as I'm writing this ...)

Feels like there is a huge learning curve but I should be fine if I'm patience with myself.

I exercise, meditate, and eat healthy and I still feel stressed as f***. Maybe I should take up drinking

I will be happy just to see some traffic going to the offer.

One small step at a time ...

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 7/180
Date: Nov 03, 2015

What I did:

1. Waited for traffic on Decisive but it never came - then I got an email from Decisive, there is a problem with "exchange integration issues", hence no traffic.

Eh okay, I'm going over to go2mobi.

Signed up for go2mobi and deposited some money. The customer service was personal and prompt - excellent, 5/5 would do business again. +++ (sounds like an ebay feedback, lol)

Looked at their guideline for submitting banners (no virus, trojan, sexy stuff, misleading ads, too many flashy banner, gore and offensive stuff a no no)

It's close to midnight as I'm writing this, I'm going to submit 2-3 banners before going to sleep.

2. Watched a webinar "how to succeed with mobile display and pay per call" with the founder of go2mobi : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo66NMuoSa0

Lessons learned:

- Inferred data. For example, low cost carriers and phone models mean poor people, thus I can send them pay day loans. High phone models give insights on people with disposable income and their spending habits.

- How to black list and white list models and carriers to scale

- Best to have $500 to $1000 for test campaigns

What needs to be done:

- Submit banners on go2mobi, get it approved and see some traffic. (I sound like a broken record)

Thoughts:

First week of mobile marketing.

Huge learning curve, at least I got all the tools needed to get the job done.

The next mile stone is getting a banner approve and sending traffic to the offer.

We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the great review We definitely make a big effort to provide top level service so to hear it from the public...it makes it all worthwhile!

If you liked the video interview with Tom, we are currently finishing up our Go2mobi Academy video series. I highly recommend checking it out! Tons of great insight about how to use our platform, all straight from one of our top performance AMs, Rob Murray.

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 8/180
Date: Nov 04, 2015

What I did today:

1. Started a campaign on go2mobi, dating sign up, "Rich guy looking for relationship" angle. Running the banner only on 1 popular app - GRINDR (lol)

- White listed ios and android, black listed everything else

- White listed major English speaking Canadian cities, black list everything else (sorry French comrades)

- White listed mobile traffic, black listed wifi traffic (I heard wifi traffic is bad, right? I need to test to confirm this)

- Everything is approved, the campaign is active ... yet no traffic. I will send an email to the account manager to take a look at the campaign.

- Downloaded grindr just to make sure it has 320x50 banner.

2. talked to STM comrades (hi darko, accelerator_dd) and asked how their campaigns are going.

What needs to be done:

- Study mobile marketing 1 hour a day, 7 days a week. A split between learning how to use the tools (Voluum, go2mobi), video tutorials and reading STM. Step back and good offers and connect it to the right people.

- Launch campaigns and optimize.

Thoughts:

Currently reading "The Narrow Road: A Brief Guide to the Getting of Money" by Felix Dennis

Felix Dennis was the original gangster when it comes to making money.

Apparently he was worth between $500 million and $1 billion dollars. He was the founder of Maxim magazine before he sold it.

Unlike other “get rich books” written by poor people, this book was written by someone who actually got rich and wrote about it.

He talked about working 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 35 years.

Because he doesn't give a shit about political correctness, he talks about banging hookers, doing lines of coke off various body parts and eat steak.

Apparently, during a filmed interview, he admits to killing a man in self defense.

The next day, the interviewer asked "did you really killed a man?"

His reply (I would imagine it to be): "Look lady, I was drunk during the interview - what I said was a work of fiction."

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 9/180
Date: Nov 05, 2015

What I did today:

1. Still no traffic from go2mobi, even after following the advice of the account manager. I only target 1 app placement or maybe the bid was too low? I don't know, I need to figure this out.

2. Studied go2mobi's inventory. I'm only focusing on Canada and MoPub (since it has the most impressions)

Notes:

MoPub's total impressions: 404 million

A break down ...

Android sitting at 214 million impressions
iOS sitting at 189 million impressions (including ipads)

Top android device, according to volumn: Samsung, LG, Google Nexus, Motorola, HTC, Sony, rest are irrelevant because of low volumn

Most popular android device model, according to impressions:

Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S5
Samsung Galaxy S3
Nexus 5

Most popular Device OS version, ranked by volumn.

iOS - 9.1
Android 5.0
Android 5.1
Android 4.4
iOS - 9.0
iOS - 6.1 (old version iphones?)

Most popular apps in Canada

Manga Rocks (sitting at 43 million impressions)
Tunein Radio (30 mill impressions)
Clean Master (24 mill impressions)
The Chive iOS (18 mill impressions)
Grindr (8 mill impressions)
Grindr iOS (3 mill impressions)

Is it okay to white list the top 5 most popular device / OS version and black list everything else?

3. Joined a "master mind" skype group "STM Buds" - great group of guys.

What needs to get done:

Launch a campaign with a wide range of placements.

Need. To. See. Impressions. And. Bids.

Thoughts:

Since I'm a lowly peasant with double digits IQ, I need to study harder. o_o

** EDIT: I got 1 conversion, $3 dolla. I have no clue how I got it. Voluum shows that I'm getting views and clicks, yet I'm not being billed for any traffic on Go2mobi or Decisive.

Uh ...

What I did today:

1. Submit and got a campaign approved on go2mobi - I did not black list any carrier or app. I just want to see traffic. Campaign got approved, I dropped $10 to see the inflow of traffic. Need to play around go2mobi to get my feet wet.

2. Talked to STM member at 2:00 AM (hi Kenny), he dropped the knowledge bomb on me and my mind exploded. What's hot in 2015? Pop ups.

3. Asked go2mobi if they approve campaigns on Saturday and Sunday (no)

4. Spent 25 minutes reading "Finch Sell's Premium post getting started on mobile marketing" (good)

What needs to get done:

1. Spend 1 hours, watch videos and read tutorials on how to really use Voluum
2. Spend 25 minutes, watch go2mobi tutorials
3. Research the gaming vertical, launch campaigns. Perhaps try dating vertical too.
4. Gather graphics like "install now!", "free download" and other .gifs to make better looking banners.
5. Launch more campaigns on Monday

Thoughts:

Advice, anyone? Am I on the right track?

I was momentarily depressed, until I watched 2 minutes of "Mean Tweets".

Nice to read your journey.
I think you do it all well.
There isn't one solution everyone find it's own way in this jungle
And yes popups is the trend to get traffic
Also use your own landing pages before the offers

What I did today:

Nothing.

After 10 days of scrambling around grabbing the necessary tools, reading threads, "launching" campaigns and talking to people, I need a 24 hours break.

Will resume back on Sunday morning because every day is mobile marketing day, right?

What needs to get done:

1. Spend 1 hours, watch videos and read tutorials on how to really use Voluum
2. Spend 25 minutes, watch go2mobi tutorials

I'm also a mid/high stakes poker pro that recently got into AM. We're in a similar position, except I still play poker about 30 hrs a week (live).
For years, I keep telling myself that I want to quit poker one day, that I want to do something more "legit" and have more "passive" income.

But, it's hard to quit poker when in 2-3 months, you're making what the avg. american makes in 1 year. Also, if i quit poker, I have no other means of income to support my lifestyle.

Alas, my new goal is to lower my poker hours to 15-20 hrs/week and up my AM hours to 15-20 hrs/week.
I'm aggressively pursing internet marketing, Im really intrigued by mobile specifically.

I'm subbing to this thread in hopes to track your success and be inspired to break away from poker and eventually be an AM pro.

Good luck

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 12/180
Date: Nov 08, 2015

What I did today:

1. Collected 10 banner graphics using google image (ha!), created 2 templates "download" and "sign up"

2. Read Ray's thread "5 Stages of Angle Awareness" (pretty good!) - http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...+create+angles

3. Read "Back to Basics: Mastering Angles" Charles Ngo's blog - http://charlesngo.com/angles/

4. Created 2 dating campaigns on go2mobi, waiting for approval (it's Sunday, baby!)

- Running dating campaign for South Africa cause they speak English
- Running dating campaign in Canada
- added "s1={clickid}&s2={city}&s3={carrier}" in Voluum (Hope I'm doing this right)
- used postback URL with Voluum and go2mobi (hmm, interesting)
- white listed mobile traffic only
- Used the "drill" feature in go2mobi and picked the most popular social apps for banner placement

What needs to be done

At some point, learn how to create landers.

Thoughts:

I'm dropping the gaming vertical and just focus solely on dating offers (since I have experience marketing in this niche)

Angle ideas:

** Lesbian looking for lovers in ZXY city
** Meet a rich gay guy (advertise on grindr)
** Meet a rich guy
** middle aged people looking for relationship
** Hook up apps that works better than tinder
** Meet uniform men
** Meet Asian women, for white men (advertise in Asia?)
** Meet white women, for black men (and vice versa)
** Meet men who love single moms (lol)
** Discrete hook up - better then Ashley Madison!

Thank you everyone for your encouragements.

I will try my best, every day.

Work until 4:00 AM, sleep, wake up, work again.

Every day is mobile marketing day.

- added "s1={clickid}&s2={city}&s3={carrier}" in Voluum (Hope I'm doing this right)
It seems like your affiliate network is on CAKE. If so then you can't use s1 for {clickid}.
Please note that the s1 parameter should only be used to pass NON-UNIQUE SubAffiliate IDs. If you are using UNIQUE Click IDs each time someone clicks on the link, please use another Sub ID field (s2-s5) as instructed by your Account Manager.

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 13/180
Date: Nov 09, 2015

What I did today:

1. Read Malan's post (http://www.malandarras.com/how-to-choose-an-offer).

The most frustrating part was trying to find an offer - until I settled down with the dating vertical. Luckily, GlobalWideMedia doesn't have that much dating offers, which forces me to pick an offer and test it out. But still, I should talk to my AM.

2. Anything else? Nothing, sadly.

This is my second day doing nothing - not good. I'm going to pay someone $20 on Craigslist to come over and kick my ass.

What needs to be done:

- Need to contact affiliate manager for offer tips (what's converting?)
- Split test, even if I'm direct linking (for now)
- Gather more data, then launch more campaigns (with the same offer) to other 1st and 3rd English speaking countries
- Spend 25 minutes and research on the average person who signs up for online dating (what's the demographic? What's the demographic for this segment of the dating niche)

Thoughts:

1. Milestone: first $5 day profit day.

Today's spent:

Campaign #1:
Conversions: 3
Spent: $4.5
Rev: $10.25

Embarrassing confession: my daily budget was only $5 and I only uploaded 1 banner. I just bumped my daily spend budget to $20.

2. Voluum trouble shooting

I think I set up my Voluum wrong - it's registering the revenue on the right hand side but nothing is registered on the top part (where's my click, conversion and profit, bruh?)

Thoughts:

Hey there, I'm exactly where you are. Struggling to find another offer whilst waiting for banners to be approved by the advertiser for this other offer. So essentially only got 1 offer going as of this week. Also catching up on readings and CharlesNgo, IAmAtilla blogs are very much my sources for inspiration and education at this stage. Hopefully I'll get to update my follow-along tonight once my AM tells me my banners are approved!

Loving your updates and best of luck. Feel free to add me on skype anytime (id:moonandcow).

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 14/180
Date: Nov 10, 2015

Things I did today:

1. Spent 25 minutes learning how to use Voluum with go2mobi.

I'm a little confused ... since I'm a CAKE platform, s1 is reserved for NON-UNIQUE SubAffiliate IDs - what is the token for NON-UNIQUE SubAffiliate IDs? My current set up is: http://URL.com/?a=0000&c=0000&m=31&s2={clickid}&s3={device}&s4={c arrier}&s5={city}&s6={region}

Oh, okay - found it ... s1 should be {campaign.id} (thanks Charle Ngo's guide!)

Re-learned postback URL - #cid# (creative ID) and #price# (payout) ... okay makes sense now.

http://elvvg.voluumtrk.com/postback?...&txid=OPTIONAL

Resource:

http://www.lukepeerfly.com/voluum-tracking
http://charlesngo.com/voluum/

2. Spent 25 minutes researching on South Africa

As Canadian who never visited Africa, here's what I learned:

- it has 53 million people
- it's multi-ethic
- majority of people speak Afrikaan, but English is 4th most spoken and it's commonly used in public and commercial life.
- 80 percent of south African are black, the remaining 20 percent are whites and South East Indians
- South Africa is ranked upper middle income economy according to the world bank

Look at South Africa's top 10 smart phones, according to the carrier Vodacom http://mybroadband.co.za/news/smartp...th-africa.html

iPhone 5s
Blackberry 9720 (interesting!)
Huawei Ascend Y220 (note - is Huawei Ascend running on android?)
Nokia 520 Lumia
Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo (really small phone)
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy Star (small phone, first time I heard of it)
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
Vodafone Smart Kicka (really cheap entry level phone)

Time to use go2mobi to get an idea of what South Africans are using (models, OS, apps)

Popular ads in South Africa:

Clean master as top ranking
... then it's CM security.
Grindr (lol)
Manga Rocks

Android: 37 mil impressions
iOS: 7 mil impressions

0x0 - 6 million impressions
320x50 - 153k impressions

Take away lessons:

Advertise mostly to android.

Since 80 percent of South Africans are black, common sense tells us we should put pictures of black people on the banner to appease tribal mentality. However, I will test it out by putting white people on the banners also.

Interestingly enough, according to go2mobi native placements outnumber 320x50 banners - this means I should learn how to do native placement at some point.

3. Launched a campaign in South Africa, waiting for ad approval.
- added s1={campaign.id}&s2={clickid}&s3={trafficsource.id }&s4={os}&s5={carrier} to campaign
- In voluum, when I tried to set the cost model, "auto" is greyed out. Need to figure this out.
- Shrunk the banner down from 37 kbs to 8.9 kbs (this is a good thing for loading time, right?)

4. Sent an email to go2mobi ("So is Samaato and MoPub the same traffic source? I'm confused")

5. Sent an email to voluum ("Hello, I'm too dumb to track properly, can you take a look why my conversions isn't showing up?")

What needs to get done:

1. Must launch 1 new campaign per day.

What's the popular saying? 1 new campaign a day, keeps the doctor away. I don't want to get sick, so I better be launching in different countries.

2. List of things I need to do:

1. Get a spying tool (at some point)
2. Learn how to properly A/B split test (ahhhhh)
3. Learn how to create a lander
4. Learn how to add scripts and stuff on the lander (this is necessary, right?)
5. Spend 25 minutes and research the profile of an average person who looking for love online
6. Spend 25 minutes and research the various dating niche out there
7. Spend 25 minutes and research the history of online dating service and where the industry is heading in the future
8. Spend 25 minutes and research the major phone carriers through out the world and various phone models and OS
9. Learn what is a CDN and why I need it for my landing page
10. What is native placement? Learn how to do that.

Today's campaigns stats:

Campaign #1:

Converted: 5
Conversion rate: 2.2 percent
Rev: $20.51
Spent: $13.51

Thoughts:

I need a system for launching campaigns. Here's what I came up with, so far:

1. Prelaunch checklist - the research.

Before launching a campaign in a foreign country, spend 25 minutes and research the country.

... Specific things to look for:

- What's the official language or the majority speaking language?
- Is it developed or under developed?
- How many people got smart phones in the country?
- What is the age bracket?
- Is it a technological savvy country with mass smart phone adoption? (ie, South Korea, Vietnam etc)
- What are the most popular social apps in the country? (use go2mobi drill to find out)

2. Launching the campaign

- blacklist wifi traffic
- manually white list social apps
- bid low (ha!)
- Upload 2 banners

I will keep refining and systemized my campaign launching process.

This is me when I'm launching a campaign:

This is me when I see a conversion:

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 15/180
Date: Nov 11, 2015

Things I did today:

1. Bumped Campaign #1 daily budget to $50

2. Pre-launch research United Kingdom (25 minutes)

Demographics:

- UK's population: 64 million
- UK consist of 4 countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
- UK is a developed country, 5th GDP on a global scale
- UK's largest city is London (9 million pop), followed by Manchester (2.5 million), Birmingham (2.4 million) and the list goes on
- 87 percent of UK is white, sitting at 54 million. Second largest minority is Indian and Pakistani (sitting at 1 million and 700k)
- 95 percent of UK speaks English
- In a 2001 census, 71 percent are Christians

Smart phone penetration:

- 76% of adults now owning smartphones according to http://www.deloitte.co.uk/mobileuk/
- Over 32 million phones are purchased yearly in the UK (doesn't say if smart phones but I would assume so)
- The proportion of 4G users jumped from 8% to 25% in the last year (amazing, so it means people are still using 3G hmm)
- "UK now a smart phone society" according to http://media.ofcom.org.uk/news/2015/cmr-uk-2015/ (so this means that, UK is pretty much like Canada, USA, AUS where everyone is a smart phone zombie lol)

go2mobi's inventory:

- go2mobi's inventory: 322 million impressions for android, 267 million impressoins for iOS (interesting, it's almost a close one)
- unknown phones at 799k impressions (I'm assuming this is dumb phone)
- window phones at 10k impressions (yeah, you're irrelvent, windows)
- RIM at 3k impressions (lol - does anyone use blackberry anymore? I remember it used to be popular 10-15 years ago)
- The most popular device make is Apple and Samsung

Take away lessons: Advertise to apples and android, ignore everything else. If I'm running a coupon offer that targets house wives, I would want to put a picture of a white woman because England is white (goes without saying)

3. Launched 1 campaign
- blacklist wifi traffic because f##k you, bot traffic.

4. Asked my affiliate manager to approve me for offers ("Hey, can you approve me for these offers? Thanks ...")

5. Talked to STM buddy (Hi, Darko)

What needs to get done:

- Keep launching 1 campaign per day to a different country and milk this offer.

- Keep an eye on Voluum, I'm not tracking properly. Will ask new STM friends on how to do it properly and look at video tutorials.

Today's campaigns stats (midnight stats)

Campaign #1:

Converted: 15
Conversion rate: 4.3 percent
Rev: $49
Spent: $20

Milestone: first $29 dollar day.

Thoughts:

Launching a campaign from start to finish.

1. Select a proven, winning offer.

- How to intuitively understand if the offer is good: Put myself in the consumer's shoes. Is the offer easy to do? I don't want to go through hurdles, it has to be simple. Do I understand what the offer is offering? The less friction to get what I want, the better.

- Does the offer serves an immortal need? Hundreds of years from now, men will still watch porn, women will still want grocery coupons and people will still play video games.

2. What country is the offer in? Do 25 minutes of research on wiki and Google

Specific things to look for:

- Population of the country (more people to look at the ads, the better)
- Ethic group of the country (better understanding of the demographic, the better)
- Developed or under developed country?
- Country's GDP?
- Smart phone penetration - are people use smart phones or dumb phones?
- Are people using 4G or 3G?
- What are the major cities? (to do geo target city banners)
- What are the most used phone models (often times Apple or Android)
- Major phone carriers?

If everything sounds good, set up the campaign in Voluum

3. Set up the offer in voluum

- Add the offer (stick the tokens: &s1={campaign.id}&s2={clickid}&s3={device}&s4{city }&s5={carrier})
- Insert the postback URL
- Start campaign

4. Set up the offer in the traffic source

- Name the campaign <offer's name> - <country> - <today's date>
- Minimum bid (lol)
- Upload banners
- Hand pick and white list the placements
- Hand pick and white list the carriers (depending on the offer)
- Whitelist, phone only
- White list android and iphone only (80/20 rule)
- Double check the interface to make sure everything is correct
- Save the campaign and pray.

5. Sleep, wake up the next day and launch another campaign

How my day went:

Woke up in the morning, saw 9 conversions.

Cried a bit.

Fixed myself breakfast. Get to work.

Played "I woke up in a new Bugatti" on loop

Launched campaign.

Now going to boxing class taught by a Russian master, who possibly drinks vodka and once knocked out a bear wit his testicle.

So are you staying with dating or app installs?

11-12-2015 01:29 AM #29 traveltotokyo (Member)

@ericnyc

Dating.

But if you're asking me this question because you're curious with vertical is better, I would say any vertical works - as long as you stick to it, get into the psyche of the demographic / consumer's mind and angle your ads just right, with the right offer.

Thoughts

1. Friday, Saturday and Sunday sucks for dating offers - because people are going out, or staying home jerking to porn, or getting drunk. Anything BUT signing up for dating offers. Dating conversion seems to run well on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and then when Friday, Saturday and Sunday comes around, my conversion just tanks.

2. Bidding is so tough in USA. I'm going to stick to Canada just to get my feet wet a bit longer and move to different GEOs.

3. Okay, so let's get back to the game plan: setup for different affiliate network that has lots of mobile offers, learn to make and optimize landing pages, set up for exoclick for some of that adult traffic, perhaps sign up for a new tracker that provides a place to host landers.

4. My motivation is waning but that's okay - there is always peaks and valleys, the most important thing is not stopping.
Chin up man! You are doing a fantastic job!

This is weird. I think most dating affs would tell you (including myself) that weekends are the best days in terms of ROI and conversions. Bids are usually higher on weekends as well.. but that might not be the case for traffic source you're using.

Good luck!

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 26/180
Date: Nov 22, 2015

Things I did today:

1. Spent 25 minutes researching the "best" adult traffic network (exoclicks it seems like it and trafficjunky)

2. Spent 25 minutes "spying" - went on porn sites on my phone (youporn, porntube)

I clicked on the ads, took screen shots of the landers (it seems like it's the same lander, copied infinitly, like an echo chamber of sort. I'm sure the affiliates are making bank. I click through and took down notes on what offers they're promoting (affairdating.com, fuckswipe.com lol)

Doing ads research on porn sites is fun.

"Hey, horny MILF 36 years old 3.5 miles from you looking for fun ... you wanna fuck?"

*click yes*

*see .gif of a MILF with her boobs hanging out her shirt. You know, just a regular day in her home*

"There are currently 242 horny MILFs that wanna fuck, this is not a dating website ... please click on the follow:

1. You're over 24 years old
2. You don't have STD
3. You will put on a condom and practice safe sex
4. You will not expose their pictures on social media

*clicks yes yes yes yes*

*redirects to fuckswipe.com*

Sooooo interesting.

Thoughts

"Good Artists Copy; Great Artists Steal" ~ Pablo Picasso

I'm tired of groping in the dark.

So I'm going to sign up for a free 3 day trial at https://www.boxofads.com and whatrunswhere, and spy on the dating vertical (mobile, yeh) then I'm just going to copy the banners and launch campaigns like my life depended on it.

Copy and launch.

Copy and launch.

Hope this works.

@michaelza posted this advice 7 days ago and I'm going to take it to heart:

Rip 5 of the most seen landing pages in your vertical and geo
Find 5 of the top offers in the same vertical and geo
Find 5 networks with those offers.
Find 5 traffic sources that you can run.

I would imagine. Average Joe is kinda busy on the weekdays, working 9 to 5, and he comes home, kinda exhausted, watches 4 hours of TV and goes to bed. Then he has time on the weekend to hang out with friends, perhaps check on his dating inbox, signs up for some dating offers etc.

(Of course, this is pure speculation, it could also be that Average Joe is at work in his office and browses the phone and signs up for dating offers)

Now that you mention it, I see why ... if bids are higher on the Fridays and Weekends, perhaps I'm getting out bid. Hmm. I have to double check my data to see.

$100k in 180 days is $555/day and you're already 20 days in so you'll have to do $648 profit daily starting tomorrow.
At 30% margin, that means spending $2180/day on ads.

How do you plan on scaling up from spending $20-30/day to $2180/day?

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 27/180
Date: Nov 23, 2015

Things I did today:

1. Spent 25 minutes "spying" on ads using https://www.boxofads.com. Good interface and stuff but not a whole lot of mobile ads. Looked at banner copies and took notes, then cancelled the free 3 day trial. (I'm sorry https://www.boxofads.com, please don't hurt me)

2. Launched a campaign in Philphines, with the offer "flirchi" that pays out 65 cents (this is my first time promoting an offer that is less than $1, we'll see how it goes)

Thoughts

1. My campaigns went from 50 percent+ ROI to break evening, to losing money.

I'm down $6 today. (not sure why Voluum stopped tracking cost properly)

I'm not exactly sure what happened. I have to take a step back and analysis the data.

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 28/180
Date: Nov 24, 2015

Things I did today:

1. Spent 25 minutes reading go2mobi's blog (http://www.go2mobi.com/blog) for that tips and tricks

- go2mobi suggests that Interstitials sizes such as 320×480 do better in terms of ROI and CTR than 320x50 (hmm interesting!)
- go2mobi suggests setting up different campaigns for different creative sizes, in order to optimize it. (okay dokey)
- Suggested: name the (offer, App Exchange, Geo, Carrier/Wifi), Banner/Native (BigFishCasino-MoPub -UK-Wifi-Banner)
- When launching the campaign, set the frequency cap to 1 (show the banner to 1 user, once per 24 hours) do this to reach as many people as possible
- Set Session Depth to 1-10, this means that you’ll bid on the first 10 ad impressions of a user’s session (set to 10 to see a flood of traffic)
- Set Daily Budget / Placement to 2-3 Times Your CPA Goal (in order not to waste all the daily budget on just 1 placement)
- On daily budget: Go2mobi suggested "Depending on the size of the market you’re testing into, your test budget should be somewhere between $250 and $2K." (I guess the daily budget affects the flood of traffic)
- Read go2mobi's interview with Charles Ngo. Charles suggested stop "following the herd" (like in certain niche it's affiliates ripped lander of a lander of a lander of a lander, and everything just becomes an echo chamber)
- read about mopub and samaato

Things to learn

How to increase banner CTR
How to create a landing page
How to track which placement is reponsible for the conversion
Use https://www.onehourtranslation.com/ to create banner and launch in non-engish speak countries

Thoughts

"Failure is just deferred success" ~ Ray Kurzweil.

Every 24 hours I launch a campaign, make mistakes, lose money etc.

But.

... it only takes 1 campaign to make $100 per day profit.

When I got my first conversion, I cried.

[re-enactment]

I will cry again when I make my first $100 profit day.

Make $100,000.00 USD in 6 Months With Mobile Marketing, Day # 29/180
Date: Nov 25, 2015

Things I did today:

2. Created a thread on tracking; I begged and pleaded for help.

3. Tinkered with Voluum. My Voluum is not tracking my cost, and go2mobi is not tracking my conversion, because I didn't add the tokens. Retraced my steps and went through everything add - add traffic source, add tokens in offers, add post back URLs etc.

4. Used Team Viewer with STM buddy (hi acelerator_dd) to get tracker to work properly (I hope so)

Thoughts

I need to revert back to the fundamentals.

I got lucky and made $10 and $30 profit days with direct linking - but so what? How am I ever going to be good if I can't even get voluum and go2mobi to track properly.

... I don't even know which placement is driving the conversion in go2mobi and I'm just blindly cutting off placements, which may explain why my campaign is tanking.

Today I went to a bakery and the owner is shutting down the store - after putting his life savings and 3 years of hard work - because the sales volumn / profit just isn't there.

Compared to brick and mortar business, online is a breeze. If I were to open a brick and motar, I would have to worry about government red tapes, hiring employees, getting physical inventories, offline marketing, standing around in the store, getting a loan from the bank, signing paperworks etc

I remember a middle aged guy who opened his pizza franchise and he worked as the cashier. He told me that he will have to run the store and work for 3 1/2 years, just to break even and generate profit.

3 1/2 years!

Anyways ...

Instead of fucking around, I really should systemized my work day.

I don't want to "think" - just follow the steps and plow through.

Which offer should I pick? Do this and do and get it.
What angle should I use? Don't think - just pick these 4 templates and test.
How should I design my banner? Don't think - just pick these 4 tepmlates, load and go.
How do I set up my offers in Voluum and go2mobi? Don't think, just do this and this and gooooooooooooo~

Bah.
