Hiring freelance writers

We have a few projects going on that require a small army of writers. Viral site stuff. We're not looking to do native ad arbitrage with a low quality paginated site. Think more along the lines of upworthy or littlethings.com.

Where would you guys focus your energy finding freelancers for this. Right now we're getting a lot of low quality articles from non native english speakers. Some of them seem like spun articles. I know the guys are using fiverr as one source (which I think is a mistake). I'm not sure where else they're looking but the quality is low.

I think I'm going to try linkedin ads and a tighly targeted fb campaign like Mr. Green did in his personal assistant case study.

Any other ideas?

Upwork.com but high quality stuff isn't cheap.

What's your budget?

https://www.peopleperhour.com/ (great quality IMO)
https://www.reddit.com/r/forhire (big site, lots of talent as well)

If you're looking to hire for a specific niche, I'd look for bloggers in that niche and contact them (or have an assistant do so) to see if they're interested in paid work.

It appears a bit more effort up front than Upwork, but it means you can vet their quality and their domain knowledge up front.

Particularly good if the domain has a lot of bloggers working in it - games, for example.

Thanks for the great suggestions guys.

As far as budget goes, while we obviously want to keep costs low the overall budget for a successful site is essentially unlimited. We're more concerned right now about the time investment to hire quality writers.
