What are the rules regarding direct linking?

Hi guys, does anyone have experience with direct linking?

If we assume

1) The direct link does not link to an offer that is against the rules (eg dating, weight loss pills, adult etc)
2) The direct link does not have pop-ups that make it difficult to leave the website etc.

If those kind of rules are satisfied, can we direct link on facebook?

ps. I prefer whitehat, and don't use a cloaker.

Any information would be appreciated. I've heard facebook doesn't like affiliates, but i've also seen casual mentions of direct linking on some forum posts here (without much elaboration). I'm really interested in getting more info on this (using alternate landers and native ad landers are not working much for me, and wanted to try direct linking).

While direct linking can work for sure, I doubt you'll be able to compete against guys who use presell landers. There's a reason 99% of affiliate ads you find use a presell lander. Is it worth to try / can it work? For sure. Is it likely to outperform a decent landing page? No.

Hi fjk87,

I definitely agree with you.

My problem with pre-sell pages is that my click-loss is really high.

Stage 1 : [100 clicks land here from facebook traffic] ---- This page is a news-style native blog talking about weight loss to get traffic excited about losing weight and building trust with audience . Within this article, there are native links enticing readers to click on it to "read read our review of the 5 best weight loss supplements".

Stage 2 : [14 clicks land here, (14% of original pool)] ---- On this page I "review" 5 popular weight loss supplements. All of them are weight loss offers im running. The top offer is the one which has the highest EPC according to my affiliate network. That offer "wins" the review, and is the recommended product.

Stage 3 : [1 or 2 clicks land here (1-2% of original pool)] ---- This stage is the affiliate offer's themselves. When I add up all the traffic landing on these pages, it is only 1-2 clicks per 100 clicks.

In other words, I've lost 98% of the traffic along the way. At the end of it, only conversion per 3 cycles. In other words I need to drive 300 clicks in order to convert 1 person. The ROI is really negative. The story seems to be the same even for white-hat offers. Now matter how much I try to change up the copy (aggressive "CLICK HERE NOW" type copy, or very subtle suggestions), the traffic suffers massive loss. Its as if people just read the topic and leave (even if the suggested links are very closely related to what they are reading).

Wanted to try messing around with direct linking on white-hat offers.
