Where is the $XXX/day carrier targeted volume?

Hi everyone,

I was absent from STM for several months but I'm happy to be back because I had forgotten how high the quality of information is here.

The last few months I've been trying to make sweeps work on Pop traffic but I failed miserably. Now I want to move on and try something different and since I'm on a tiny budget, I decided to try PIN submits because I see that they are popular and I also see that there are a lot more PIN submits available in tier 3 geos than SOI sweep offers.

However... I see a big problem with the requirment to target specific mobile carriers. When I narrow down the targeting so much, there's very little "X" carrier traffic available for this to be worthwhile. I even tried to set a crazy high bid just to see what will happen in the PopAds's inventory report but the estimated traffic was still ridiculously low and that was tested in several high volume tier 3 geos. Maybe people don't use streaming/movie sites when they're on their carrier connection?

BTW, at this point I should let you know that I'm only using PopAds, PopCash and SelfAdvertiser (actually only PopAds offers carrier targeting). Unfortunately, I can't use Adcash, Propeller Ads, DNTX, Wiget Media, Exoclick, Plugrush and Zeropark because I live in the EU and I have to pay an additional 23% VAT on traffic due to not owning a company. Could this be the reason I have that problem by any chance? I'm not so sure if it is though because even when I targeted a very high volume geo in PopAds, the volume of a specific carrier was still extremely low.

My next thought after encountering this problem was to completely abandon Pop traffic and go after the mobile DSPs which are known to have HUGE mobile volume but then I see another big obstacle with this idea. The largest premium mobile exchanges are pretty strict (far stricter than pops) and PIN submits are very shady offers that provide zero value to the user, so how on earth is it possible to profit promoting Whatsapp wallpapers or an Antivirus offer if I don't use something that's really aggressive in my landers and banners? Even with legit apps, I had a really hard time getting a single conversion on DSPs in the past. I don't want to think how hard this will be, based on common sense.

So to wrap this up, (TL;DR) what traffic types do super affiliates use to make $XXX/day promoting PIN submits?
If they use pop traffic where do they find enough volume? Is there a single traffic source big enough to do this?
If they use display traffic, how do they manage to get profitable on large mobile exchanges without using aggressive landers/banners? Is cloaking also part of the game or is it just genius angles?

You've just named most of the biggest mobile pop sources around. Perhaps you'd be better off organising a company setup?
In terms of running on DSPs, the AV pin campaigns you'll see around are usually cloaked. That doesn't mean whitehat is impossible though...

I am not 100% sure, promoting a streaming/movie product for carrier connection would be a good idea as it's usually expensive. I believe most carriers (if not all) have a limit for download per month. If you were to stream or download a movie, that would use up their monthly allowance in no time.

Of course, I don't know the GEO or carrier companies but unless they have free unlimited carrier connection, I don't see why anyone would want to use their carrier connection instead of wifi for a streaming/movie activity.

Thank you stitch. This pretty much answered all my questions.

I was afraid it would look like this. It seems that there's no easy path to choose based on my situation.

No, I wasn't talking about promoting a streaming/movie product. I was talking about the sites that serve the popups/popunders/redirects. Except from porn sites, the rest of these sites are usually low quality sites that stream pirated movies and series and in an attempt to explain why there was so little carrier pop traffic available, I was assuming that people may not watch movies online while on their carrier connection for the same reasons that you mentioned above.

What I just told you is actually something very useful to know if you want to spy for free on affiliates running sweepstakes on pop traffic. BUT... I'm warning you it's extremely unlikely that spying is going to make you any money by itself. I've spied a ton and all I can say is that it's a miracle that some people can make money using the same tired old landers with the old FB interface from 2012.. Which kinda reminds me of what people were saying about adult dating a while ago. Some of you might say that they cloak their good landers but I still can't believe that all of them do this.

Scripts and cloaking

@badimo - we have no way of verifying if the address you provide at sign up matches your actual place of residence (if you see what I'm saying) ;-)
