German Muscle on Native

Hey guys and gals!
About to bite the bullet on a vertical and trafficsource that is 100% new to me.

This follow along is based on a campaign from John Crestani his coaching program.

Campaign Overview, Offer, Placement/Targeting, Bids

Traffic Source: content.ad
Offer: Pure Muscle +Testosterone XL Trial Step1/2 - INTL - $32+31 on Nutryst
Landers & cloaking: Splittesting 2 different advertorials & cloaking to a 'lame' advertorial with lot's of disclaimers.
According to John these landers have a proven trackrecord.
Targeted Devices: Tablet & Desktop
Content.Ad Campaign Type: Advertorial
Budget & Daily Spend: Set to "open". I only added 250$ so far on my account just for safety reasons.
Bidding: 0.49$ for desktop clicks. 0.32$ for tablet clicks. (= the recommended bids).

Creatives
I'm testing 6 different images with the same headline.
Images for ads:

Headline: Muskelkörper nur in 1. Monat (= A Muscular Body in Only 1 Month
I was this headline coming back a few times while doing research.

Plan of attack
In content recommendation, CTR is vital. That's why i'll focus on the images first.

Step 0: waiting for the campaign to get accepted (i am here! )
Step 1: finding the image with the best CTR
Step 2: testing more headlines
Step 3: when the best headline + image is found => cut bleeding placements
Step 4: lp optimizations
Step 5: ?
Step 6: $

I'm hoping to get a lot of advice from the more experienced people on this.

only a small advise. change the headline to: In einem Monat zum Muskelkörper

There's something about this thread title... it's like there is some unintentional but delightfully witty innuendo going on.

Good luck bro!

I fear the images/angle is too ordinary.

Franco

PS: schaue Dir bodylab24 an, die mischen content + coole images sehr gut

German is not my native language, so thanks for your advice!
I changed it to:
In einem Monat zum Muskelkörper? Finde es heraus!
Does that sound good to you?

Thanks for your insights!
You could be 100% right. I'll let the data do the talking on this first test.
That way I have a point of reference to know if a new angle outperforms this "boring/straight sell" angle for muscle.

I did a quick google search for bodylab24 but couldn't find any cool images or stories.
Can you give me a link to what you are talking about?

Update:
My ads are still in aproval state.
This is a momentum killer

I've email them to speed it up, but no reply yet.

My number one advice for anyone tackling Germany. Get proper translations. This has to be done by a native speaker, and tell them you don't need a literal translation of the English, because that also sounds/reads like garbage and will be your true momentum killer

The campaign got approved around 40 hours ago.
Sending an email with company name + campaign id in the subject got them to take a look at it.
I think these guys are flooded with campaigns..

First data came in, but it's not significant enough:

It seems the image with guy + girl works the best so far.
A CTR of 0.08% or greater on content.ad is considered to be "ok".

No conversions yet..

The main problem is the lack of traffic in Germany on content.ad.
I'm going to let it run for another 2 days to see if traffic ramps up.

In the meantime I'll be searching for other Native Adnetworks with German traffic.
If anyone has suggestions, thanks for posting them.

Any progress ?
I would love to see you going green

+1 to getting a proper translation. Extremely important for T1 countries in general, and especially Germany!

"In einem Monat zum Muskelkörper? Finde es heraus!" - While technically correct, I think you'll have a better shot with: "In einem Monat zum Muskelkörper? Finde heraus wie..." or something along those lines.

The amount of traffic is slowly increasing, but it's inconsistently spread:

2 conversions + 1 upsell conversion came in.

- I'm keeping the ad with the guy + girl and the last one that has 0.06%.
- I'm uploading the "winning" ads with the headline from @pandabear and i'll increase the image saturation.
- While spying, I found this ad which i'll rip too:

- I'll be porting this campaign to RevContent too.
- Stats so far: spend only 240$. Made 95$ back.

ADHD version:
We are still in the "finding best image" phase.

Nice, glad to see you're starting to get some conversions!

Update:
- Uploaded a new lander with the upsell on it
- Added the new images. Also noted that 'beach boy' alike stuff is getting higher CTR so added one more image in this style.
- Upped bids to get access to quality placements
- Added campaign on RevContent. Low daily budget (100$) and insane bid (42 cents). Desktop only.

The new creatives and my RevContent-campaign got accepted already.
So let's play the waiting game.

10-21-2015 07:45 PM #14 vitalis (AMC Alumnus)

The new image has high CTRs on RevContent and Content.ad:

It's doing around 0.11% CTR on content.ad which is considered good.

I made a small mistake on RevContent with my bid which i fixed now (it was only 0.08).

Another conversion came in too.
All conversions so far are from the same lander.
The headline on that one is really strong.
I'll be using that headline in my ads now.

Any update on your journey?

John recommend to run this campaign on
Facebook: Men 35+ is a solid broad way to go about things, or you get more targeted with interests such as ‘Arnold Schwarzenegger’.
can somebody have idea in which languages it will be suitable to run?
What I CPC should be set to increase impression of the post?

I spent around 800$ on it.
It did 4 step-1 conversions and 1 step-2 conversion.
Total revenue: 160$

The data isn't telling me a good story.

With this low ROI, I stopped pushing it.

OMG Milo, you are so right!
O proper translation is one of the most important parameters for the success of a promotional content...and is relevant for all the languages.
Having the content translated in a local language can be so helpful and increase significantly the potential of a campaign , but is crucial to adapt the content correctly and make it sound professional.

In my opinion, the text within a promotion has as prime role to convince and complete the message of the image/video.
If the message does not sound clear, the text is misspelled or it just not makes sense to the native speakers it loses all the power is should have on the customers and becomes a 'momentum killer' .
