Google is about to roll out email list-based ad targeting

If you have a list and are running anything compliant (or have your own product/ offer) this is going to be a nice new platform for retargeting:

Google is on the cusp of rolling out an anticipated and in-demand product feature in AdWords: the ability to upload and target audiences built from advertiser email lists.

Customer Match will let advertisers bid and create ads tailored to customer segments in search as well as with YouTube Trueview ads and Gmail ads.

Advertisers will be able to upload email lists manually or through the API to AdWords. Emails are matched against Google sign-in emails and anonymized.

The ability to set bids and create ad copy based on advertiser data on their customers can be much more powerful than doing so based on site visitor behavior.

Btw, Google can have really weird rules about what you can't retarget. For example we had a case where a health org wanted to retarget by symptom, couldn't do it.

Good point.

Their rules also change by country. I had a relationship for a time with a pharmaceutical company and we could get away with lots of ad targeting in the South American markets that would never fly in the US, much less Western Europe.

i had more than few times that my ads on google got rejected and the same ones in other countries approved.
there is a person most of the time a "kid" that can approve or reject you happen to my friend that his site was down by google and it took him 3 month to get to someone to change this decision.
with these companies such as Google FB and similar you just have to go with the flow, they can come up with a new T&C's tomorrow and change a lot of stuff for better or for worst.

Interesting, but what is the advantage of this?

Advertisers will be able to upload email lists manually or through the API to AdWords. Emails are matched against Google sign-in emails and anonymized.

You can already reach out to all these users via email and then retarget them via adroll for example...so why do this?
