I recently ran a test campaign on a new offer my AM suggested. Spent about $750 to make $500 over 2 networks (Exoclick and Traffic Factory) and tried 3 banner sizes for both networks,
Even the best banner/landing page and the best domain I still couldn't see potential. So i paused all campaign and started to look at my data. Here is a screen shot from

As you can see some isp/carrier are killing my ROI. And this seems to be the trend on all campaign, I am always finding an isp/carrier that is killing my ROI.
So in this case what would you do? Re-direct to another offer? Any other options?
I really wish these top adult traffic sources would have more filters!
Wanna send it to me? :P
What rate are you offering?
Use drilldown reporting to see if you can find a correlating variable that has more targeting flexibility.
Maybe your worst ISPs cluster around a single OS, or browser, or city, and so on...
This widens the targeting options available if you can't filter ISPs directly.
The second option is simply to redirect the traffic.
Route it to a different offer, send it through a redirect network, or physically sell it back to a traffic exchange.
You can do several things (and yeah I'll also use this thread for some self promotion
as IP filtering is one of our strengths):
1- Find more offers in other ad networks (like Kimia
) for each carrier and setup an offer rotator by carrier, with filtering to send each click to the right carrier offer (you can do it with
2- Find an affiliate program that does it for you with better ip filtering than your average tool (like us at Kimia again
).
3- Resell it to other traffic networks. The problem with that is that as the traffic you are reselling is usually worth less than the average (as you are keeping the good carriers for yourself), most of advertisers in that network will start to blacklist you, so while the initial income could be ok, your ecpm will go down over time. Imho is not a long term solution.
I would chose 1 or 2 for long term, 1 if your have awesome carrier IP filtering and access to enough variety of offers, 2 if not.
We are Kimia are very proud of our carrier filtering. We use a combination of 3 different comercial databases plus the ip ranges provided from the advertisers and even carriers directly as we have an strong relationship with carriers worldwide as we were a tech provider for carrier billing before we switched into an affiliate program. On top of that, and this is the key, we have our own conversions data. We are currently sending mid X,XXX,XXX conversions per month to adult carrier CPA offers, so we have enormous amount of data about which ips convert for each offer. To merge all that, we have an own developed technology and 2 guys working full time on it.
We offer tools to our affiliates to get the most of it, like our "custom matrix", where you (or us) can setup a matrix of product per country/platform/carrier, so we do the filtering for you and send each click to your preconfigured offer for it's country/platform/carrier. You can even setup some rules to send traffic to external urls, so like for carrier A -> Kimia offer 1, for carrier B - > another network offer, etc. We don't take any commission or traffic if you send it to external offers, we just ask you to be fair when using it and to send us also enough traffic to our offers.
You can do that also yourself setting up rules in most of mobile tracking platforms and it's a good start, but their ips databases won't be as good as ours, as obviously they don't have the conversion data that we have.
